A guy in my school used to give me a bad time for preferring quality titles (In my opinion) over Modern Warfare 2.. I made him be quiet by showing him this [http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2] and this [http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-orange-box]. He stopped pestering me after I showed him those.
WOW! Your school peer is doubly dumb foolish. First for liking MW2 so much and secondly for being swayed by metacritic.

Just an example of how incredibly wrong metacritic can be:

http://www.metacritic.com/movie/kung-pow-enter-the-fist

but Metacritic's aggregate user reviews have yet to so severely let me down. In MW2's case you can really see it, even for PS3 and 360 versions, both sub 60%
He doesn't know it's a bad source! His biggest problem is if it looks stylish, he trusts it and loves it, so of course he worships his iPhone 4, his MacBook and other pampering style items.

-most flack are those who say games are bad instead of simply saying they don't like them.-
But that's very similar to what he says he said "I can't stand the game"

HE doesn't like it, not that "it's shit" or "only an idiot would play that game" he simply counted himself out. And he has suffered for it.
No what he said was "UNG I can't stand that game" which is a bit of a large reaction to something as silly as a game. Am I saying he deserves to be alienated for it? No but I'd sure tease him for it, it's not a big deal to dislike a game but when someone has such a snap reaction like that it's silly. I got the same business when I said I hate rockband and guitar hero, if you make a full blown reaction you're bound to get flack for it.
Maybe "I can't stand" means something very different to you but I always thought it was the most deferral and mildest way you could say you dislike something/someone.

It's even milder than "I don't like" as it's not that I don't like this person at work, I just can't stand them so we don't really hang out after work.

Hmm, I'm actually that way with Modern Warfare 2, I kinda like it, I can get on with it, but at the same time it is full of things that really annoy me and I put up with only for so much.

Of course that is only IF the OP is being 100% honest. He may in fact have used more damning words, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Okay the way he stated is thing, this how I feel it's actually been said

"Ung I HATE CALL OF DUTY! It's so crappy for so reason and so bla bla bla"

That's how reactions usually go where the person dives into a rant of all the reasons they personally thought it was bad and just flat saying the game was bad. How do you think a bunch of fans are going to react to that kind of overenthusiastic reaction?

I know people who react the same way to some games I have, just SEEING the game on my shelf makes them feel obligated to start yelling why the game is terrible in my face. I just sit there while they rant with a smile on my face and follow it up with "You really need to find better things to hate, because you spend a lot of energy silly things".

Honestly I'm playing the opposite end of the fence since I saw a lot of people saying those people he talk with are bastards, and they're probably right, schools are filled with bastards. I'm simply saying his reaction might have been a bit too much for something so simple as people talking about a game they enjoy.

I very much hate Halo, but I'm not about to find a box to stand on and start announcing "why it's bad" that to my friends. If confronted I say "I really don't like the game" I give a few simple things and I don't attack the game. Why? Because I've learned that it gets a negative reaction from fanboys that's easier to deal with if you say you didn't like it instead of the game sucks.

To put it simply, I'm suggesting the OPs reaction could have been overzealous and might have really been the wrong thing to say to big fans/fanboys of the series. A simple "can we talk about something else? Like ..girls?" or something might have had a far softer reaction. After all, punch someone they're gonna punch back.

Trash talking Orange Box and Assassins Creed, when they play Black Ops?
Yeah, I wouldn't even waste my time talking to these people since they have no idea what games are.

I really enjoy MW2, but HATE Black Ops.
I hate the campaign, I hate the zombie mode, I hate the multiplayer, that game has NO redeeming qualities... actually no, the bonus game that is in there for shits and giggles is actually really fun and I played it for 2 hours.

These faggots are clearly CoD fanboys, so either don't talk to them, ignore them, or destroy them on a game that doesn't suck.

I find it hard to believe that your entire school shuns you, there must be SOME person in your school that isn't a fucktard.

I got a week-long-ban for calling a gay-hating-bigot on this site a gay-hating-bigot (without even a warning or probation stage, straight to suspension) so I'm being careful now for my OWN good.

"so of course he worships his iPhone 4"

The sheer amount of pretentious superior bull going on in this thread has become insurmountable.

You are not high atop a gaming tower, better than all others who are too foolish to understand your wisdom.

People treat you badly because you treat them badly, and this is another case of that. The OP said much more than what he quoted himself as saying, much more over a longer period of time, and his friends teased him and joked at his expense a little bit because he takes himself so seriously, and he flipped out over it. He probably just HAD to mention it every single time someone were to bring it up and he were around, and it got annoying.

Because as bad as high school kids can be, that statement cuts both ways. You, high school kid who feels so much better than the other high school kids, are just as bad if not worse than the ones you feel so superior to. Your constant hatred for their enjoyment with friends is possibly much worse than their apathy towards your hobbies.

The franchise certainly has it's merits, but it's nothing to drool over...

cut the chord man, these fanboys just aren't worth it.

While I personally enjoy COD, I do think that it's somewhat ruined by the type of person you're talking about here. Nuke 'em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Somehow I find it hard to believe that a massive number of people would give you hassle over that (unless you well and truely made an arse out of yourself in which case that's your own damn fault).

At the end of the day you expressed your opinion publicly and got burnt for it, it's not nice, it's not fair and it can really shake you up sometimes but sadly it happens and complaining won't make it any better (in fact, this can sometimes make it worse).

Sharing your thoughts with people can be a bit of a gamble sometimes, especially in school (goddamn you peer pressure!).

Unless you go to an all boys school I'm pretty sure there're probably some hot girls somewhere about your school who have never even heard of Call of Duty. So maybe you could just go hang out with them?

So I was talking with my buddies about games during class and they brought up COD, much to my dismay. I immediately said "Ugh I can't stand that game," and left it at that. Well, little did I know that an ever growing shit storm was coming my way. My friends would tell their friends that would tell their friends etc that I hated COD. Now I'm receiving messages and from people listing games from my game history and they're going "Assassin's Creed sucks, The Orange Box sucks, Sid Meier's Pirates sucks" so on and so forth. People call me retarded and lame for not liking it. Am I the one with the problem or does my school need to be purged?
Tell your friends to fuck off and then explain everything to the teachers.
Teachers.... man have you ever been to school?

You did the right thing. The series has been horrible since the second one, and all the money spent on the series is going towards a terrible cause-

Get a shirt, "COD sucks, get over it fanboy".

This can make you into the Yahtzee of tomorrow, run with it, go into game criticism.

Remind said simpletons that your dislike of COD is a preference and that their hate of games you have played is their preference and that you really don't give a damn what they think of an objective experience.
It is not retarded or lame to hold your own veiws about this but what is retarded and lame is that these people believe you should be punished for not liking what they like. It's souless and robotic and you'll be happier without these shallow people as friends.
Ignore them and move on they'll be left behind not you. ;)
