It seems pretty ridiculous to me. Seems like they're offing the white guy just to add some diversity. I'm not saying the superhero world doesn't need diversity, but doing it in a publicity-stunt, fuck-your-fans way is kinda lame.

I'm not into comics much, but I always figured that most people think of Spiderman not as just a suit that can have interchangeable people underneath it, but as Peter Parker
What he said. Why not just introduce a few more X-men (or a new superhero or some such), turn them in to main character badasses, and make them minorities? It'd make more sense than killing off an established and well-liked character for some ethnic diversity. Hell, why not make some super villains ethnically diverse? That'd be a way to go, and it'd show the fanbase that color really doesn't fucking matter; black people can be evil just as white people can, same way with the good.

As for the change itself, I really don't care that he's half/half minority; couldn't care less if he was black, white, Asian or whatever else. That wouldn't be a problem, but Spider Man, specifically Peter Parker, is one of my favorite superheros, and offing him just like that for this is a stupid move.

While I have nothing against a minority super hero, this just seems like a blatant attempt at diversifying for the sake of diversifying.

But as long as Peter Parker is the one in the films I don't really care because I don't read comic books.

Uhhh There aren't two marvel universes, there are thousands, and it doesn't really matter what race he is, They replaced him because he died, it's not like they just decided to change him for no reason...

I don't have any issues with spider-man being a black guy I have issues with them killing and replacing peter parker.
Exactly, and even then there were much better ways to go about doing what they're doing. Why didn't they put Miles into an earlier story? Why not make him a member of Peter's supporting cast and make us want to root for him putting on the mask and taking Peter's place after he dies? This has just come completely out of left field and the only real reason he seems to be Spider-Man is because he's not white, and a non-white Spider-Man has never been done before. And just to make it even more diverse, he's black AND hispanic. I mean hell, I thought it was going to be Spider-Girl or someone we have actually met. But nope.

Of course, it's all a moot point since we know Peter will be back in the next year or two anyway. I don't know how exactly he died, but I know it doesn't matter. In comic books, you can chop a character into pieces, feed those pieces to a dog, and cremate whatever is left. It will turn out it was a clone, or his spirit will find a new body, or be resurrected through magic, or become a ghost who is given a second chance, or my personal favorite: the death will be flat-out retconned out of existence. There's like a thousand ways to do it.

normally my inner fanboy would be foaming at the mouth at this outrage but strangely enough , im actually ok with this. for one thing its the ultimate universe and not ours(marvel 616)so its not mainstream canonical and for athoter its a nice step forward in diversifying the marvel universe and comics in general

its also a nice way to flesh out "spiderman" more rather than just "peter Parker/spiderman" add to that given the track record of comics since...well forever odds are this wont be permanent and they have peter back after awhile and this make a nice side story in the spiderman mythos

TL/DR: im ok with its as a spiderman fan and as a comic fan

I never cared much for Spiderman because I hated Peter Parker as a character, Unlike Bruce Wayne, Who's none costume persona is as sly and interesting as his alter ego.

So maybe this will be a change for the best. I mean Spawn is black, and I wouldn't have him any other way.

It struck me more as Marvel just trying something new.

I haven;t read much of the ocmics but from what I know of Peter Parker (cartoon, movies, and civil war 1-7) I like the guy. It sucks that hes dead but oh well, He's not real.

This seems like an interesting experimentation and I'm willing to wait for a second to see if Marvel can pull it off.

The main problem with nerd culture is that we can never sit back and wait to pass judgement on stuff.

I am actually totally fine with this. Ultimate Spiderman got me into comics and while he will be missed, I am looking forward to Marvel actually getting some mileage out of their universe where anything can happen. I am tentatively excited to see what Bendis does with the character. Then again, I was always more interested in Shaft than I was in Superman. I prefer characters who were inspired to action by the heroes before them rather people who got lucky and decided to use their powers for good.
On a side note, I have a theory that Peter Parker was supposed to have been replaced years ago after Ultimatum. I think they were originally planning on having Jessica take up the Spider mantle after Ultimatum and really only have the Ultimates as the only normal Marvel heroes still in the Ultimate universe. I think the only reason it took so long for Peter to get killed off was because of how terrible Ultimatum was and how tight a control Bendis has over Ultimate Spiderman. I believe that the reason we got to Miles Morales from there was that Marvel editors wanted a brand new Spiderman to happen, even if on Bendis's own terms and Bendis created this character in a response to the people who were upset that Don Glover wanted to audition for Spiderman.

The funny thing about it, I'm mix (horrible pun) about it.

Being black you're think I will be happy about it. But Miles looks too young for it, fuck he looks likes my nephew. Secondly, I LOVE ultimate parker, and I love the fact that in the ultimate universe, he's the one who isn't a pompus asshole.

I need some background on Miles. When did he meet parker and how the hell does he have the powers? Blood transfusion shouldn't work cause normal verse pete gave Aunt may a blood transfusion and she was fine.

Man, this was a shocker. I hope for two things:

1) To be snarky as hell.
2) Please don't make him being black/hispanic an Huge isse. Don't let it become him.
3) Also, please do better with the secret idenity. Pete utterly sucked at that one.

Also...here is my favorite drawning of ultimate spider-man ever.

I don't really care. As long as it's a well-written character and not a stereotype, why should it matter that he's a minority?

...So they kill off Peter and now they're going to replace him with a complete unknown? Yeah, I see why some people are pissed. This probably would have gone way better if Miles had been introduced in the comics earlier.

Honestly, screw the ultimate universe. Ever since Ultimatum, they've just been killing characters left and right to make it "epic". You can't replace Peter Parker, I don't care wht race the new one is.

They killed Peter? WHY?
Why not make an alternate universe? And why is everyone [minority] x [minority]?!
They did use an alternated universe. The Peter Parker that was killed off was in the Ultimate?s series.
Still killing him off in a universe that's been around for quite a while.

Seems like a simple publicity stunt to sell more comics. Therefore, I'm not buying it. Parker will likely come back at some point in the future. It's odd that Marvel would do this, though- don't they remember the last time they tried to replace Spider-Man?
