Seriously though, I think that they really do need to make a downloadable sonic game (like on WiiWare), it really would own and Yuji Naka could just go ape on sonic, knuckles and tails, but especially knuckles for Thor's sake, He is too cool for school!

And also they could make branching and interconnecting story paths for each. There is so much they could do now, what the crap SEGA? I guess you guys are too busy making sonic and the black knight (shudder)

Guess I'm one of those few who LIKE the 3D Sonic games...

The two Sonic Adventure games, to me, broke the mold of Sonic games. They included new, AND INTERESTING, characters that I could actually feel for...Instead of just focusing on Sonic and Tails. Plus, the Chao garden...You CANNOT resist the Chao Garden!

Then Sonic Heroes came along, did alright...but was largely forgotton.

Then you had the list of "good concept, horrible execution" games: Shadow the Hedgehog for one, gave us a grittier, darker look at the character...leaving Sonic in the backseat. THIS had potiential, to say the least, even WITH guns and vechiles. It also had a branching storyline, that would alter your path based on your choices...Too bad it also had more bugs then "a crack whore with the sniffles"

Sonic Riders...if anyone cares to remember, was a Sonic racing game that had you in control of one character, and had you racing on hoverboards...It was a good party game, in the style of Snowboard Kids.

Why everyone continues to hold the 2D Sonic games above the 3D games is beyond me...But, then again, maybe its the nostalgia factor...I played the 2D games, and I couldn't get past the water levels...ugh, another water based level to add to my gaming pet peeves.

Now that my rant is over, I can say that Sega needs to re-do the SA/SA2 formula for the 3D games...Only branch the storylines, give more attention to the OTHERS (Except Amy...ugh), and, yes, make the old games in the style of Sonic Unleashed's Sonic levels.

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were the only good 3D sonic games. The franchise lost its quality in Sonic Heroes that I could pick up on even in my wide eyed, naive youth. It was such a dramatic loss that playing the stupid game actually made me feel gloomy and depressed.
I don't now why sonic smashed into a brick wall so abruptly but damn could you feel it when it happened.

If you want a good sonic game, buy a DS (sonic rush) or GBA version (or download on XBLA or WiiWare). It isnt harder than that.

The Sonic Team should make some good downloadable 2D Sonic games and that's it. If we start killing franchises we should start with Mario or Zelda.

Except those games are well received and make money. When I first heard the idea for Sonic Unleashed, I just shook my head. They won't kill it though, not when there are hordes of nostalgic gamers with cash to burn (or cash that should go into laundry money or food).

Worst case scenario, they'll sell the rights for another company to get another ride on the village bicycle.

All these, "What can be done to fix Sonic the Hedgehog" threads strike me as a bunch of people pining for the Sonic the Hedgehog of the Sega Genesis in the same spirit as their Dads pining for Disco. Sorry, boys and girls, the old Sonic the Hedgehog no longer works - times have changed. What we have right now is some scrambles on behalf of Team Sonic to adapt the concept to modern times, but clearly it's not been perfect.

What's actually going to happen is they're going to "Keep Doing the Same Things" until the series becomes a financial load in which case they're "Kill The Franchise." However, funny enough, I suspect that's never going to happen - as cruddy as the game series has been lately, there's been a ton of TV and Movie stuff going on to support it, along with toy lines, etc - I suspect we've got a whole new generation of Sonic fans who happen to like his new flavor, so that's probably going to work out just fine for them.

I've never been a big fan of Sonic. He seemed to have the contrived "attitude" of a marketing campaign. I always think of the "cool" skateboard and sunglasses-wearing dog that the makers of Itchy And Scratchy try to introduce in The Simpsons when I think of Sonic.
But if he is to survive an old age at saint Tiggywinkles, the downloadable route seems best. He just doesn't cut it in the 3D era: or to be more exact, the devs simply aren't up to it.

I say make a proper, free roaming Sonic game. Enormous levels, bigger than GTA's cities. Put the emphasis solely on platforming, collecting rings, running really fast and killing baddies the same way the old Sonics were.

Have the superspin, jump and the basic bubble. No other main characters other than Robotnic and Sonic and dedicate as many buttons to controlling the camera.

Make it as simple as possible.

kill the franchise for at least 5 years, take a breather and then try to take gameplay elements that succeeded, make them solid, make great controls and call it "SONIC: THE RETURN"

- I really enjoyed sonic adventure and sonic adventure 2 battle. making the Chao things was fun, especially when you could put them on your Game boy and beat the hell out of other competitors.

- The maps need to include classic loops and fast and challenging, but not impossible on the first go.

I don't hate sonic, after all it was the first game I ever played, its just that they lost focus and they keep trying to add to much fluff to the games and they eventually just wear the player out.

Sonic Team is missing three things: level design, quality assurance, and The Plot. If they want to continue what they're doing, they'd better do it properly, and soon.
If anyone is saying that Sonic should be ended or downgraded to a DLC only franchise, such a statement should be backed up with a new company mascot. If Nintendo confined Mario to DLC, you'd be looking out the front window, watching out for martians eating everyone.

maybe he should be exiled to portable consoles.
or he could take a hint from little big planet - get a physics overhaul and stick to what he does well, move fast and break stuff.
