Right, but see I don't care about its popularity or user base. I care they release a product and market it as the next big thing in the world when its the same exact thing. I mean shit the iPad is a few iTouches sewed together. iPad 2 isn't a great big thing that everyone should be excited about, but is. I don't see the insane amount of marketing and excitement for a new computer or graphics card that is released every year because those companies know they haven't changed much. Apple goes about it making it look like they are changing everything. Thats a real reason to hate something right there.

Oh and since you gave me the great idea of taking something off of someones tumblr, heres Maddox http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=macs_cant
I'll direct you to the post above, but address a few things here too.

Saying "I don't care about it's popularity or user base" then linking to that Maddox article seems a bit stupid, since that article is pretty much entirely about the user base.

And you don't see that marketing, no, because they can't pull it off. Apple owkred so hard on their image for so long, and we're seeing the payoff now. You're hating a company for doing it's marketing better than anyone else. It just sounds silly.
Thats me saying that. That is Maddox. Two different people no? Since its the same subject overall and you had the pleasure of giving some random tumblr to me, I gave you some random Maddox.

Again no, I don't hate them for their marketing. Let them market all they want. The way the market is the problem. Everything that comes out from them is shown as the next biggest thing and its a must buy. All of their products are essentially with few minor upgrades and then they show it off as the fucking shit and you got people buying into it like nothing. Would you buy the samething over and over with a few minor upgrades? Show me any computer part manufacturer that does this. Have yet to see Nvidia, Intel, ATI, any of the big names come out and say their slightly upgraded part is the biggest thing in the world. Thats how Apple handles themselves and thats what I hate about them.

They're not good at marketing. If they were good at marketing then I would have bought an iPad. They're good re-selling the same thing over and over. So yes, I suppose they're good at marketing. Doesn't mean they're good at making quality products without ripping people off.
Marketing is the art of getting people to want what they don't need. I didn't say anything about making quality products. If they iPad was a good product, we'd probably both have one. As it stands, we're not their market, and thus they're not trying to get us to buy one. But the people they're trying to get to buy, this is how to get them.
So I'm not allowed to hate something because of the way it's marketed or that the business practices used are questionable?

I guess I should stop having an opinion then.

So you showed me something with, essentially, zero relevence. Awesome.

You've contradicted yourself like three times so I'm pretty confused. Firstly, at the start of that paragraph, you said you don't Apple for their marketing. Then at the end, you say you hate them for how they handle themselves. Which is the same thing. Then you say the problem is the way the market is, which isn't Apple, that's the market, the general public and media. Which means you're hating a company for the way people react to it. Which jsut seems silly. And you describe their marketing in the middle, but you said you didn't hate them for it, and... argh

I'm so confused.
No. Its called generalizing under the same topic. Simple concept. While has nothing to do with our argument, great representation of Apple.

Firstly, at the start of that paragraph, you said you don't Apple for their marketing. Then at the end, you say you hate them for how they handle themselves. Which is the same thing.

-If its the samething, its not a contradiction. How can same be opposite? My point still stands.

Then you say the problem is the way the market is, which isn't Apple, that's the market, the general public and media. Which means you're hating a company for the way people react to it.

-If there is no one marketing, who is buying? Apple is the marketer and people buy into it. I don't see how this is confusing. People react to it only because the way they market it. Again show me a company that I mentioned market like Apple does...exactly they don't. Not a shit is given by the people either.

And you describe their marketing in the middle, but you said you didn't hate them for it, and... argh

-I don't hate them for marketing. Every company should be able to market, no? I hate them for the way the market their product. Two different things.

That isn't Sony's problem, sounds like you have way too much a problem over this. They're completely different systems and it's their new handheld, the PSP came out a long while ago now, it had a few upgrades to make the design better which succeeded, this is normal for companies.

Nobody is forcing you to buy every system that comes out, pick what you want.

Don't get dramatic dude. Yes, I do think it's silly to hate something because of the marketing. Becuase that probably just means it's not aimed at you. And I sure wouldn't call their practices questionable. They're overhyping, so what? That happens all the time. Like, all the time.

Saying that you hate them and don't hate them for the same thing is a contradiction, yes.

So basically, Apple is better at marketing then other companies. Oh no. What bastards. I'll show you a company that wishes they could market like Apple does: all of them.

And again, at the end, "I don't hate them for their marketing (and if it's not their's, then why are you even responding to me there), I hate them for the way they market their product." They're the same thing. Not different things.
Where are you getting the idea of marketing and the way you market is the same? Market is just saying your product is out there, the way you do it is where I have an issue with Apple which is way I say marketing and the way you do it is different. The problem here is we both see marketing as different things. Also I don't see a lot of companies wish they could market like Apple. Not one of them have said it as far as I know and they are still doing all right. Again does Nvidia have to market like Apple? No and they are still successful. If anything this is just worse on Apple. They have to market a product insanely hard to just get people to buy it.

Does it release a new, lighter version every year? No? Then my point still stands.
Neither does Apple.

Look, I get disliking Apple. My HDD is borked on my iPod, and it's gonna cost nearly as much to repair it as to replace it. I could probably service it myself, but Apple has that whole new thing where you have to trash the panel to get into the device.

I hate this planned obsolescence model, and I hate the OOOH LOOK NEW AND SHINY!!! mentality and the jerks who follow it. But let's not make things up about Apple to defend Sony.

So the original iPad wasn't released last April?

Looks around a year to me.

You're right, it doesn't. First of all it releases a new version every 2-3 years, rather than 1, and second of all, it actually adds some worthwhile improvements.
First of all, Apple doesn't. Oh no but it did it this time! That's exactly the same as always doing it! No, no it's not. By that logic, you could accuse Sony of doing the same with the PS3. and second, what were the new improvements on the PSP 2000? Improved RAM? Got it on the iPad. Better wireless switch? Didn't need one, got dual cameras instead. Lighter and thinner? Oh, wait, that's why people are complaining about the iPad.

And back to the PS3, the multiple "yearly" iterations actually took stuff away. I suppose you could count concurrent versions of different types of iPod/Pad/phone, but that's rather dishonest, and it would require you to ignore even more improvements.

And let's not even get into Sony's actual Apple analogues, the MP3 players, e-readers, and phones.

Yeah, Sony are bloody saints, Apple is the antichrist, and I have never heard a Justin Beiber song, but I hate him because everyone else does.

Except that's not every year, your claim.

That's two years in a row, not enough to actually establish a pattern. To state every year and then claim "well they released one last year!!!!!" Is dishonest.

Let's take a look shall we?

Looks pretty damning to me. More annual consecutive releases than not.

People say Ohh but it's progress. People say that this is the new PSP/iPod/whatever. I wonder if they realize that nearly all that stuff is not new, it's been around for a while and the ONLY reason that it wasn't out before is that the manufacturing process is too expensive/inefficient to scale up to mass production. 'New' things come out when the industry manages to refine the production methods to something that is cost effective to produce so they can get the most profit.

No real point to this post just wanted to mention that. It kinda puts the hype in perspective.

I might just be the only person to agree with you here...

It would be ok if all these products were actually polished when they came out, but it seems that with every big electronics and software company (This goes for Sony, Microsoft, Apple whatever), whenever they release a new product/version of previous product/updated software, it's filled with bugs. Seriously it seems like with every new "revolutionary" device that's released within a week people are finding about a million faults with it that the manufacturers missed before they put it on sale. Maybe this wouldn't happen if they weren't in such a hurry to be the first ones out there with there new product, AND it would also give people like you the chance to spend more time with the stuff you've actually got.

A perfect example of how this should be done is Valve. Sure people always complain about how long it takes them to release new installments such as Episode 3 and Portal 2, but when they eventually do the same people who were complaining before now can't shut up about how good they are. You know why? Because they take their time to get it right!

this is a very poor complaint for Sony, personally I'm a bit upset cuz my PS3 died and I had to get a new one before realizing they no longer play PS2 games, WTF?!
Thats the kind of thing I was thinking of when I saw this thread but I gotta say geez man your mad because someone else will be having more fun than you a couple of years from now? if your so upset about it apply yourself to your job get a raise, save up all that little extra money you get from said raise, spend it on new PSP when it FINALLY comes out, hell if you save 75 cents a day you will still have enough money for it when its released, thats like 2 minutes of work a day X_X

I can just SEE myself surfing through thousands of fan boy comments just from writing that title, but I've got the urge to write again so I might as well keep going.

Let me paint the scene for you, if you please:

It's Friday afternoon and the sun is setting in the distance while all the little animals in the world get ready to go back to bed, but not you. No, sir. You're on your car going about five miles above the speed limit [or telling your mom to drive faster] and you're in a frantic hurry to get to the game store. You've been saving up money for months working on your dead end job where you clean the floors and mop the walls. You're not very good at it but the pay is enough to keep you alive and thanks to a few skipped meals you now have enough money to buy the PSP-GO! Yes, all your friends have it and they've been playing games and having fun without you, the jerks. But no more! It's your turn to have fun. Finally you arrive at the video store and thank whatever godlike entity you believe in that it's completely empty. You get your PSP and you run to the box to pay for it. The cashier girl is smoking hot and she's flirting with you but you don't even give a damn. You've got a PSP-go, the latest in Sony hand held hardware! Finally she gives you your receipt, you're tick it out of here and back home, and now you're heading towards the door! But! just as you leave you catch a glimpse of a nearby advertising box and read the ten words that will ruin your day. Forever.

"Make sure to save up for the new Sony NGP!"

FFFFFFFFFF*oh my*
What? No return policy?

Edit:
If that's the case... Why aren't you complaining about Gamestop? Is progress every 5 years really that bad?
