I dont know the cost in fuel per pound of equipment that they put into space, but i can promise you its several thousands of dollars per pound at least. If the water was all ready there, it would be very cost benificial if we are to continue space travel.
It's about 100 gallons of fuel per 1 pound of weight, last I heard.
Anyways, as people have said, we didn't hit the moon for no reason. The moon gets hit with meteors bigger than that several times a month, and there were absolutely no explosives involved.
