What about Serah and Snow's relationship? I'm kinda apprehensive to get this cause it seemed like they're weren't gonna touch on it if they bumped Snow into the background. I thought the first game was passable and enjoyed the whole rescue your girlfriend thing in the story. I'm abit scared to pick this up incase its got NTR drama in it.

Quite enjoying it, but the dialog is so completely ridiculous that I am left speechless.

Fucking Kupo.

It's really not bad, though it sometimes suffers from the old Bethesda ailment that complete non-linearity equals a bad story, but the renewed gameplay is great, the premise is fun and I just plain find myself enjoying it.

It's f*cked.

I'm not saying that that it's bad, its just f*cked, and you won't know what that means till you play it.

I choose to believe you are referring to the hands of time temporal rift. Not for any logical reason, simply because I am less of a human being after going through that.

...And I'm not even done with all of them yet.

It's indistinguishable from the thousands of other mediocre JRPGs on the market.

Squeenix just doesn't make good games anymore.

Yeah it's kind of sad I envy those people who haven't played FF6 or 9 and are therefore happily oblivious that something better existed. :p

I've kind of gotten the impression that this one is like FFX-2 which I actually quite liked for it's non serious tone (I'm a girl so...yeah) I'm going to set up my XBOX (total PC gamer) and have a go at the demo.

I think I just got so goddamn burnt by FF13 that my mind is just 'Do Not Want'.

I loved XIII. I am about 6-8 hours into XIII-2 (a guess).

Pros:

- The level system is better
- The map is better as it can be fixed to North instead of rotating with you
- No animations for paradigm shifts

Cons:

- The music is a major downgrade from XIII.
- I don't care for the monsters as a third party member. They are more limiting than a real third party member would be as they only have one job. A party member could learn 6 jobs.
- The story isn't very interesting so far and the gameplay isn't that great. I don't play for more than a hour at a time while XIII had me hooked for days.
- Are all the quests boring?
- I really hate how they drip feed you functionality. Like you can't use Mog's R1 ability until they let you which is a few hours into the game. I played the demo so I knew about the ability but had to wait for the game to release it to me. I know it's not the first game to do this but I no longer have a tolerance for it.

I guess I liked the demo more than the game. Of course, it could grow on me. I think the linearity of XIII can be appreciated more when you see the alternative. A more open world with boring quests and no sense of direction or urgency.

To perhaps provide a counterpoint, I played and LOVED Final Fantasy IX, but I'm still enjoying the FFXIII series. Some of the characters need a good thwack across the face, but the voice acting is usually decent, the story is interesting enough and the combat is wholly entertaining once the Paradigm system opens up. Just my opinion.

I'm enjoying it quite a lot, actually, and that's coming from someone who pretty much hated XIII.

Combat's better (though not altogether different, so if the style in XIII wasn't fun for you I'd steer clear), and contrary to the reviews I've read, I actually like the story quite a bit, even if their execution of time-travel is... well... questionable. I'm able to turn my brain off and enjoy the story for what it is, I suppose, and that is a LOT better than FFXIII. XIII took what was a very simple premise, and seemed to understand that it was TOO simple, so they just complicated it without adding any actual IDEAS, and it ended up being a mess. XIII-2 seems to better grasp the idea that a simple story should just STAY simple and not overreach.

Game FEELS less linear to me than XIII did, but I know that's less because it's actually non-linear and more just because it has some better design in it. It doesn't just feel like a long hallway anymore.

Also, I like Noel and Serah a lot more than... well... pretty much everyone that wasn't Sahz in XIII, and the Moogle is actually a little less annoying than I thought it would be.

And also, Monsters :| My all-chocobo team is coming along swimmingly.

I mean yes, of course it is not as good as Final Fantasies of yore. Nothing ever will be, and I'm not looking for a replacement for FF7 (I have joined Materia slots tattooed on my shoulder, and I'm sure as shit not getting anything from THIS game inked on my other), but for what it is, I am not disappointed that I purchased the game (Although I am coming up on the end of the story with alarming speed).

It's Final Fantasy, man. They're all great.
Wow... that's like saying sonic games are all great, that's just a rabid fanboy statement in its own right, I for one think the steady decline in square-enix's games is apparent, this coming from a 19 year old guy who grew up playing FF6-9 and loves the music, the only point to this game is to buy it, complete a collection, store it under the Sahara desert, and screw with future civilizations...

when they unearth FF1-13 and the two sequels to those games, they can then retch like the rest of us with at least half a mind on video games as a gameplay element, if i wanted to watch a movie, I'd go to my local theater and watch something with a similar story.... like the muppets, you know, a movie where they are trying to bring back something that should have died a long time ago, except the muppets are actually somewhat fun to watch...

Once upon a time, I was a fanboy, but nowadays, i am poisoned with and sense of loathing towards gaming companies who milk money from a bias of nostalgia and/or graphics based argumentative people

Edit: not posting here in ages, I'm not sure if this qualifies as "offensive", as such, please dont hesitate to shoot me a note about it so i can file it and think carefully about how i might have hurt this poor chaps feelings, i must state that, this was more pointing out his statement not a direct attack on my friend here (required amount of balance and political correctness)
The thing is, Final Fantasy has nothing with to do with "watching a movie". Yes, it does put a lot of focus on the story, however the gameplay is refined as well.

It is possible to have an interactive experience without ditching story.

I'd also say that Square Enix aren't milking FF. They're not rehashing the story over and over, and they are innovating and further evolving both their narrative and their gameplay. I know the definition of "milking a franchise" is different in every person's opinion, however I think it's a general consensus that it involves largely rehashing the same concept over and over again (correct me if I'm wrong).

Just look at Final Fantasy XII. Look at that, and tell me that is rehashing the same combat system over and over again.

Have you tried the demo?
I did, and found it to be one of the dullest experiences I have ever had in my entire life.
This. But then when i play a demo i care more for gameplay than story. But still, it was dull and i prefer the FF7 etc fighting. I want more matera on weapons.

Lightning was my least favourite character in the first one. My favourite (Vanille) only appears for five seconds, in a way that seems to be saying "Hey, everyone who liked her, screw you!"

However, the gameplay looks pretty good, as does the time travel mechanic. In fact, apart from the casino and the characters (Oh my god, Snow, what did they do to you?) it looks awesome. Take that as you will.

I'm enjoying it, but my opinion is invalid since I didn't rabbidly hate the first one.

I also liked the demo.

And in case you just think I'm stupidly uninformed of the series. I really liked FFIX.
