Thoughts on episode 6:

- I haven't seen this amount of manservice in a show, ever. Nor have I ever seen a dude go through a "magical girl transformation", and especially not completely nude. And what was up with Sexy Sensei's glowing nipples? They were glowing, I shit you not. I appreciate that Trigger realizes girls need to look at something too.

- Uzu felt like the protagonist this episode, with Ryuko the villain. The only reason this isn't the case is simply because Ryuko isn't the one fighting for a totalitarian darwinian regime, but rather against it. Uzu proposes and honorable duel, Uzu loses the first time due to a dirty trick Ryuko pulled, learns a lesson that makes him stronger, makes a sacrifice to help him win in a rematch, beats the piss out of Ryuko, who then runs away (without the "I will get you next time!" she normally does) and angsts about how she lost again. He's a pretty respectable guy, who would be a hero in any other story had he not been part of the evil school council in an evil school. I guess there is also the fact that Ryuko has the typically villainous role of wearing the evil looking slutty outfit and wielding the violent looking weapon which strips people of their will to fight, wearous Uzu wields wooden sticks and ends the episode looking like a superhero. I actually like this, it's really unique for a show to have something like that.

- Taking away your sight works nothing like that, but I guess it's my fault for applying science and logic to this insanime.

- More character development and backstory is always a good thing to see, because it just reconfirms that this story is going places. I like that they used sepia tones and a 4:3 aspect ratio for the flashback sequence.

- We got to see Satsuki's mother for a very short period of time, atop an immaculate palace surrounded by a comparatively insignificant metropolis while ominous music plays. Again, I like that there is a world outside of the school, and I don't think they would have bothered to include this scene if it wasn't foreshadowing the fact that there are bigger villains out there. Serial escalation, here we come!

- Fuck yeah, Kendo Gundams.

- On a more negative note, holy mood whiplash, batman. We start with a humourous exchange between Sexy Sensei and Ryuko, we end with Ryuko getting the everloving shit kicked out her by a guy who has sewn his fucking eyes shut. I haven't seen a beatdown that brutal in quite awhile. The only reason she wasn't splattered all over the pavement was due to deus ex machina, in which Uzu's uniform overheats because he has more power than the uniform can handle. I don't like asspulls, but at the very least, it proved just how badass the elite 4 are.

- No Mako scene. I didn't mind them at first but after awhile, it stops being funny, so I'm glad we got a break from that.

---

Good episode, Trigger is based, anime is saved, etc etc etc. Next episode I believe is "the" Mako episode, and as long as that means she becomes a proper character instead of a joke character whose traits can be summed up with "airhead", that's fine by me.

Probably because you're not actively looking for those kind of shows :p
Free, for example, is airing right now and has way more "manservice" in it.

Given that this was made by the same people who escalated their robot show from gundam size, to 100 times larger then the milky way galaxy's length sized, in the course of like 5 episodes..... yeah, not suprising.

Also, the school looks like a giant school uniform, and satsuki's mom's building looks like a giant dress. Huge mecha anyone?

Also, the music playing during that scene, and right before the fight begins, pure gold. Need soundtrack.
