Australian gamers will be upset tomorrow when they find out on gaming websites that South Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson has won in his electorate of Croydon. Gamers 4 Croyden got just under 600 votes which is surprising considering the amount of support they supposedly had. It hasn't been announced if he's going to still be Attorney General but the odd are high that the current government setup in South Australia isn't going to change. The Attorney Generals will go to a meeting in April to discuss the R18+ issue but since he's still in power there doesn't seem to be any hope for the R18+ in Australia.

Glad I'm not in Australia.

I doubt that this is the end of hoping for an R18+ Rating in Australia, but it certainly is a setback for all of the people who are for an R18+ rating.

South Aussie gamers shouldn't give up hope. They should keep fighting to eliminate the scourge that is the tyrant Atkinson and his censorship laws. Down with Atky! Down with Atky! Down with Atky!

C'mon, chant with me! Down with Atky! Down with Atky! Down with Atky! Down with Atky!

It sucks that the majority of Croydon voted for Atkinson. Now we got to wait another 4 years for him to get voted out.

Or for him to kick the bucket. That would also work. And with a bit of luck, that could happen before the next election!

To quote Futurama: "You don't give up hope just 'cause it's hopeless. You cover your ears and go: Nananananananana"

What's his problem? Is he trying to ban 18+ films too?

Bloody hell. Me and my girlfriend will likely move to Australia in the near future, and my gaming persona is dreading it already.

It doesn't matter if he wins his electorate

If the opposition party win that means he can't be attorney general since the winning party will be the one to choose who the GG is

This is a good post. Atkinson maintains that games turn people into sociopathic characters of highly dubious moral character, so let us hope for his death to demonstrate the fallacy of this.

I'm referring to some post I read a while ago (thought it was a newspost but it wasn't) that said he was getting long in the tooth. And I'm not advocating killing the old bastard - god no, that would be immensely stupid - I'm talking about natural causes. That's why I used the phrase "kick the bucket". Besides, note the exclamation mark - I know voice intonation doesn't transfer through the medium of written (or, in this case, typed) text, but in my head this sounded sarcastically cheery; I intended it as a joke.

Keeping his seat is required for him to stay A-G, but it's not by itself sufficient - his party has to stay in government too. They haven't actually counted enough votes yet to say whether the state government will change hands or not, and neither major party has conceded yet.

And this is why the world will end in 2012. Stupid politics. There's this jackass and then there's this Texas educational program thingy that's discriminatory altering history books ...

Not exactly ban. Just remove all the covers so they're in blank boxes. And then ban anything coming up.

What next? Some sort of secret police that searches the internet, deciding if someone is a threat and then using some kind of advanced technology to incapacitate these individuals? Nah, that's a stupid idea, it would neve - Target has been eliminated.
