I either map wasd to the numpad or use ijkl for movement. I tend to put reload, jump and flashlight buttons onto the mouse.
I haven't used ijkl since playing Stellar 7 on the Apple IIe! That flashed me right back. I'm going to have to set up the key mappings just to take me back. Maybe bring up a Loderunner map. :)

I find it interesting that you map jump to the mouse. Reload and flashlight I can understand but is a mouse button easy to handle for jumping? What mouse and mouse button do you use?
I only ever do it with my Logitech mouse (MX610)and it is usually mouse button four or five. Though now that I think about it I could set up some of the extra buttons it has to emulate other keys and then handle even more actions with the mouse.

I'm left handed (to the extent where using my right hand for major things like writing and throwing is the equivalent of a wet noodle), but I still game the standard way. I guess it's more a deal of how you grow up with something than a natural preference.

If you're finding the need to constantly remap games annoying, take a look at this.
http://www.ideazon.com/us/products/fanggamepad.asp

I have a Merc, which is exactly the same thing except the gamepad is built into the left side of a keyboard. (Right handed) It comes with an excellent piece of software that lets you map the controls and use macros.
I've considered a separate gamepad, but I'm not sure if I have the desk real-estate to handle it. What's your experience been like with a gamepad type interface?
It is great. The only two problems are that it's way longer than an average keyboard (Which is why I recommend the Fang; You can just move your keyboard out of the way.) and the keys are mushy. The Merc's typing keys suck.

I'm personally left-handed, slightly ambidextrous (I use my left hand on the mouse and with a pen, but that's about it). I honestly could not see myself with a mouse on the right hand side and with the keboard on the left. WASD as the direction keys? That's madness! The arrows are quite clearly there on the keyboard, so why use a bunch of letters instead? Of course, I find this inconvenient, as I have to re-map every game, as it seems that "Ctrl" and "Right Ctrl", as well as the shift keys are treated as two very different keys, for no adequate reason.

I am left handed but I can't use a left handed set up. I also can't play my guitar left handed either. I think it because I have always done those things right handed.

Oh, almost forgot. Playing the DS is a pain when you're left handed.
What makes the DS so awkward as a lefty?
Many games don't have control options, and are built for right handed people. I seem to only end up buying the games that don't have those options.
And, the FPS games suck, because it's rather annoying to have to actually move your fingers around to the A, B, X, and Y buttons. It's just awkward in general.

I'm right handed and have always used right hand mouse, left hand keyboard, for everything, gaming included. However, getting a laptop and not getting a mouse for it means I have to use the mouse with my left hand in gaming or switch to WASD, which I can't get used to. I don't have the patience to practise playing Halo the other way around for the next few months, and as I'm a university student I don't really have the time. Easiest solution for me, I think, is to just buy a USB mouse and connect it to the laptop, return to what I'm used to. I need to anyway, the Halo deficiency is really getting to me now (trigger finger starts to twitch...).

I'm left-handed, but I play computer games with my right hand on my mouse and my left manning the keyboard. As a general matter, if something is shown to me a certain way then I tend to adapt my hands to it. After all, I wouldn't play the piano with the keys laid out backwards, I just tend toward songs played on the bass keys.

Real men use their feet.

Though, admittedly, he's still mousing with his right foot.

Left-handed here, but use a right-handed mouse style.
Though I could use a left-handed style, it is easier to continue the "right" way. Discrimination..see that?? .. ,)
While I am mainly left-handed, I am ambidextrous as well, so alternating is not a bother.

I use a Logitech non-ergonomic mouse with cord and "tracker ball?", and they are a right pain to find today.
Also use a CRT screen and fabric covered rubber mousepad, but that is perhaps for another thread.

Left-handed too but using right handed set-up. Reason being was because that was the only mouse available to me and I just ended up training myself onto it. So now I can't use left handed mice at all. And as added fun bonus I have trouble using a stylus because of it....see, I write with my left hand, but when I'm on the computer I manipulate things with my right, and I get this mental block when I'm using the stylus, one half of my mind is telling me it's a pen, and the other half is telling me it's like a mouse. Really messes me up.

It is funny to think that computers and mice are actually better for left handed people than right handed people. The "bad" hand... the right, you use for the mouse, which doesn't do much, while the left hand... the good hand controls the keyboard, which have a lot of bottons. Yes, I am left handed and computers are more configured to lefthanded people than right handed really... otherwise, the mouse should have been in their left hand, and then their good hand could be on the keyboard.

Playing left-handed feels terribly awkward for me, even though I'm left-handed myself. I guess I've just gotten used to it. It actually offers some benefits - if I'm doing work, I can manipulate the mouse with my right hand and takes notes with my left.
