Poll: Spiderman VS Alex Mercer

Can I get a ruling on this. Does Alex absorb the brain power or just the memories of what he eats?

I think if he did absorb the 'brainpower', it wouldn't be additive. You couldn't eat two geniuses and be twice as smart as either; if anything he'd just be as smart as the smartest one he ate.
If it works that way at all.

... but he was a pretty smart guy before becoming Blacklight anyway.

Recently my friend asked me the question, who would win in a fight, Alex Mercer or Spiderman. No on the surface it seems like a fairly easy question; Alex Mercer can kill things by scowling angrily at them, and Spiderman has gotten beat up by an old man with metal dildo's strapped to his back.
But I found that Spiderman is a hell of a lot smarter than Alex Mercer so I thought the scenario would play out like this.

Spiderman would encounter Alex Mercer, get the shit kicked out of him and barely escape with his life, then develop a cure for the black testicle virus (or whatever) and spray him with it, turning him back into Alex Mercer! Or a corpse, whichever works better.

Also my view has actual evidence behind it (oh golly). Just look at the original comics with Spiderman vs Doctor Octopus, the Vulture and that Lizard thing.

You do realize that Alex Mercer died when the Virus took him over, right? The entire game, there was no Alex Mercer, only a virus that thought it was Alex Mercer, and than later referred to itself as such to keep itself somewhat sane and rooted so as to protect itself from the myriad of personalities it had absorbed. This leads directly into thee fact the Virus is always evolving. Always. Literally, in the time it would take to read this, if it was real, there would be about 15 new variants of the virus, or more, probably.

As for a cure, did you play the game fully through, and get every single web of intrigue node? There is no cure. That's kinda the point. There's an poison type chemical that kills the virus, but even that becomes useless as the virus evolves and grows immune.

Yes, Peter Parker is intelligent, perhaps even more so that Alex Mercer was, but he's not more intelligent than several dozen genius's compressed into one person, who has the abilities of an entire cities worth of people at his disposal.

Oh, and he can pull a Wolverine and survive a Nuclear explosion.

So, yeah, I have evidence too. Alex Mercer would win, and probably easily at that.

Actually, that would be a better question: Who would win, Wolverine or Alex Mercer? Wolverine's Adamantium probably prevents him from being absorbed, and Alex can survive literally anything, so that's abattle that would never end.

his skeleton isn't COMPLETELY covered in adamantium. it's more of a...laice work of small adamantium struts. all it takes is one exposed area of bone and Mercer's tendrils of om nom nom would make short work of ol' Wolverine. and oh joy, Mercer has even better heealing now. we're fucked.

On the spideys friends scenario:

Mercer eats one of the X-men, like Kitty or someone else thats not hugely important and not great at fighting.

Shows up as kitty. Depending on which friend, Mercer then has a second tasty snack.

I like Thor, and he's a God, so Thor. Or hulk. Or whoever really I mean when superpowers enter Mercer gets even more overpowered.

As far as intelligence is concerned, maybe he isn't as smart as spiderman. OM NOM NOM Reed Richards, any other random genius who's not spiderman.

Spiderman could whoop the shit out of the real Alex Mercer. The Virus that thinks its Mercer could destroy the entire Marvel Universe. And DC. probably at the same time.

Well it depends on how much power the Sentry is willing to unleash. His normal power level still matches up to the Hulk at full power though.

But if Mercer absorbs Prof X, or any psychic actually, Sentry will go down since he's weak against mental powers.

Actually, if we're bring ALL of the Marvel universe into this, even I could beat Mercer. Someone, a fair distance from Mercer, uses the Cosmic Cube to erase him from existence. Yay. Spiderman could do it, too, since it fits in with the thread.

It's been a while since I've played Prototype, but I don't ever remember being impressed by the character's intelligence. He seemed to just be bumbling around the city, killing whatever he fancied being dead at the moment and chasing anonymous phone calls. It almost seems more likely that the virus would be just taking whatever skills or memories it needed and throwing out the rest. Anything else would be wasted time and effort. Or maybe I'm just biased because I like Spider-man and think the Mercer/virus thingy was an incredibly shitty character.

That said, Mercer would probably win in a straight fight. Spidey's only chance would be to realize he's screwed early and escape, then pull together some buddies and do some good old scientific geniusery.

It's not at all a bad assumption. It definitely might go with his absorption ability, but it is just an assumption. It seemed like it was being brought up a lot as an established game fact when I don't remember it ever being addressed.
