Those who played it will know what I'm talking about (It's practically the endgame), and know that THAT scene is way worse than the exploding babies.

That shit was fucking creepy

I haven't played it yet, so perhaps it's just the usual development-marketing disconnect, but given the marketing and the inclusion of baby-shooting, it seems as though this is there just to make the game more "extreme". No Russian played a pivotal part in the story and had very clear narrative intentions. Again, I haven't played it yet, so I don't know for certain, but this sounds more like cheap schlocky gorn than anything else.

That part was AWESOME!

Anyway, yea, like most people are saying it's not that big of a deal. I think it worked perfectly for the game and wasn't over the line at all.

Psh you think that is offensive? Go play FEAR 2, now that is a giant holysh*t part of gaming history.
You, the player, get raped by a dead woman and she has your child.

They're not children anymore, they're alien-zombie-monsters. It's not a big deal.

It amazes me that contemporary audiences can still get offended by things like this. It amazes me even more that said easily offended audience would even consider such a product. You don't even have to have done your research to know it would involve something horrific. Aside from that 18 rating, surely you must've known what the original was about. And that the original involved shooting new born babies as well, called Lurkers.
firstly i was unaware they were babies, :-[ not that i suppose that is a reason, but to answer your main point

hang on, so not wanting to walk thorugh a nursery shooting babies makes me a weak stomached p*ssy?? really??

i've no worries walking thorugh a airport hosing civilians, (i didn't buy medal of honour, merely becuase i have friends in afghan then and now, so it felt like a betrayal) and ill happily walk around hosing aliens, mercenaries, hell collateral damage in prototype didn't bother me a bit.

but surely im not the only one to think: isn't a nursey sacred? babies: sacred? i know they are trying to instill a horror at the grotesque nature of the act (they're suceeding) but... really? a nursery? lullabys in the back ground?
When you take a nice happy place like a nursery and flip flop it, the result is pretty damn scary. That's what horror is.

Are you kidding? I played Doom 3 and went around smacking the babies in that with the flashlight while singing BYOB, only it was adapted to mean "Bring Your Own Babies" and my friend who was watching me play couldn't stop laughing his ass off.

...Maybe you're just a better person than me? XD

I'm pretty sure a lot of games have us do horrendous things, when you think about it. Isn't the goal of most any MMO to slaughter wildlife, (granted, wildlife that often attacks adventurers, their natural predator, on sight) cut them up, and bring the parts to some lazy, psychotic shclub? In your average shooter, those mercs and terrorists probably had families and friends, you may have killed them earilier in the game. In Minecraft, you're pretty much walking environmental damage, taking and reshaping it for your own needs with no regard to the ecosystem. Little big planet... eh, I'll bet there's something I haven't picked up on.

Same, I thought that was the funnest thing I've ever seen! be sides it made the atmosphere more uncomfortable. Just as well any way the Lurkers were babies too they just were more morphed then the Crawlers.

Nothing is sacred when there is money at stake.
Nothing is sacred period. Sacrements are drawn with thin lines of subjectivity that can be easily over-written by others.

Where as you(O.P.) find that children are sacred grounds, never to be touched, someone else could find the actual act of killing children to be a sacred right. Though that is a bad example I believe I've made my point.

how was that a spoiler? I haven't played either dead space and I knew you shot babies, does sound pretty funny though.it always annoyed me that thing involving death and destruction seemed to skim over the young, like your immune to death until your old enough to drink.

I dont play dead space 1 or 2 very often. I am still stinging a little from the cod "No Russian" mission. That affected me a lot more than I thought it would.

This is just one of those issues that will never be settled (except by an arbitrary government ruling). What is okay to be put into a game and what isn't. I like how in Fable and Fallout you can't kill kids. They might sometimes annoy you so much you want to smack them back to last week, but such violence is a little over the line (IMO)

Yeah, because artistic expression is never worth it if it's offensive.

You should commend the game for challenging your sensibilities the way it did. It's called leaving your comfort zone.

^^This.
I understand if you were a little surprised when you first got to that part in the game but Dead Space is a very, very violent game, and Dead Space 2, more so. Also, it's not like they are perfectly healthy, innocent children, they are alien-demon things.

In Prey you actually get to shoot a child, and he turns in a blood soaked paste.

Now that was even more disturbing than anything that dead space ever did.
