It's not really a 1 or 0 deal, though. Just be true to yourself depending on what the situation is

As I goes I standout somuch I go out of my way to try and blend in. I absolutely hate it when people recognize me, but I?m never impolite if people want to enjoy my company.

When it comes to opnion I'll freely disagree with mass opinion, but at all other times I'm a fucking chameleon.

Depends really.
I stand up for my opinions, but i don't attack someone, because he has a differnet opinion than i have.
For example: I am a vegetarian and if you have a problem with that (And yes i have met quite a few people who attacked me for not eating meat) than you better be well suited, because i am gonna hit back.
But i am also quite involved in music, but i don't lash at somebody just because he likes a band, that i don't like.

Physically, I tend to blend in. I've never really cared about being the center of attention. In college I surprised my friends a couple of times by coming up to them in a small comic book store and saying "hi" when I was there before they were and they should have easily seen me when they came in. I believe I was given the title, "Master of Lurking" after the second time. :)

Opinion-wise, it depends. I can listen to people (usually older people like my parents) rant and rave about stuff like politics and the economy and it's easier to keep my opinions to myself as I'd rather not try to debate some issues and others I just don't care about. With friends or people closer to my own age, though, I tend to be more up front about my thoughts and beliefs, as I feel my point of view is just as valid as anyone elses.

If the majority opinion happens to coincide with mine then obviously I'll continue to go along with it. Otherwise... well. I don't like it when people misrepresent facts or use faulty reasoning or pluck statistics out of thin air, so if that kinda thing comes up I'll call them out on it, even if everyone else is nodding along.

In my current setting that doesn't happen too much, but I imagine that if I were to live somewhere very religious, or superstitious, I'd probably stick out like a sore thumb. The one time in recent memory I got dragged to church I did stand out like a sore thumb, and I get the feeling that some of the people there felt I was invading. Especially when one Christian bloke was comparing Christianity to a virus, "God's virus, replicating and spreading" or something similar, completely unironically and I was laughing out loud...

The one area where I will tend to stand out is regarding music. I'd call myself a metalhead, but even amongst metalheads I tend to be regarded as having a weird taste.

I try to blend in, but i certainly don't go with the flow. So where does that put me in your equation OP?
In general, i tend to disagree with popular opinion, but i don't go telling everyone.

Usually I try to blend in because people freak me out and I want to keep my nose out of trouble.

So far, it hasn't really worked.

At parties I stand out as the guy crying in the corner. When it comes to conversation, I'll say whatever I feel like. Whether I'm standing out or blending in just depends on how controversial my opinion is, I don't purposely try to do either. My opinions tend to be unorthodox, so I usually stand out.

Depends entirely on what I'm set out to do. For example, if I want to ruin a local bar's business with excruciatingly bad karaoke performances, then stand out. If I'm trying ruin someone's night by applying toothpaste to the edge of the bottle they're drinking beer from (it makes just as much sense in context), then blend in.

When in situations in which I have no particular interests? Blend in. I'll leave that state when there's some specific course of action I want to take.

I hold a preference to blending in but in situations where someone needs to lead and no one steps up or the person who does I don't believe will fill the roll properly then I'll take a standing out roll at the forefront.

It always depends on the situation. Sometimes the best thing to do is to be utterly invisible. At other times you should get out there and show 'em why you're the baddest ************ in town. Its all relative.

I blend in without even trying - not that you would know it if you saw me. I'm 6'2", with the strength that comes with it, and usually have an amorphous explosion of brown hair perched on my head. I'm not particularly shy or soft-spoken, and yet I've always been able to go unnoticed. I once walked behind two people who were having a conversation about me for 3 minutes, without them realizing it. I'll speak up in a conversation and people will jump up because they thought I was in another room. Chalk it up to body language, soft footing, crazy luck, or whatever, I have a tendency to blend in, which can get old at times, but is fun at others.

Given the choice, I'd probably pick blend in most of the time, because I tend to be fairly observant, and can enjoy sitting back and watching whatever's going on go on.

The exception is if it's any kind of discussion, debate, or argument. I LOVE to argue/debate. I get an adrenaline/endorphin/whatever rush when I argue, that's how much I love it. Screw blending in when there's disagreement to be had. Polite disagreement, of course, I don't get a kick out of ruining anyone's day (quite the opposite), but it's perfectly possible to have a casual discussion over the finer points of... whatever. And I love it.

Well, it depends on the situation. For the most part I will 'blend in' when it comes to a debate over a given issue, whether it is on religion, politics etc. I'm the kind of person that will only get into a debate if I know all the ins and outs of the given subject. Since I'm a military history graduate student, I will debate over various aspects of military history for example.

In regards to general social situations, I will almost always 'blend in'. I'm highly introverted, so I have no desire to stand out at all. My introversion also means that I only speak when I have something meaningful to say. Really, I essentially never attend parties to begin with.

You should've put a "depends" option in your poll, because I like expressing my opinion, but I don't like to stand out and being looked at. I am a very shy person.
