Okay... so i just finished watching Star Trek DS9 and i can't decide what I hated most about this... thing. Admittedly it had its good moments and i liked the fact that i could finally watch the Federation engaged in a war. However, there were a mess of problems, so i ask that those who saw this Star Trek, vote on what you hated the most, from the Bajorans to the lack of Captain Picard.

Enjoy!

Urgh I hated that series. I loves Star Trek for the ships weapons, characters and the fact they were a clean cut power. DS9 has next to none of that in any real amount.

Probably a combination of all of those options. I love Star Trek, but DS9 just didn't really draw me in. I preferred both Enterprise and Voyager to it, even though a lot of people don't seem to like those much.

I've only really gotten into watching Star Trek:TNG and I really liked that series. Would it be suffice to say I won't miss anything special if I avoid DS9?

I sometimes think I'm the only one who actually like DS9. I definitely rank it above Voyager for its more political drama side, which frankly, is probably why most Trekies didn't like it.

Its no Next Generation but I prefer it to Voyager although I really do like both. Enterprise should have never gotten past its vocal driven opening sequence *shudder*.

I liked some parts of DS9, but overall the series was dull. I mean TNG had its crap, but for the most part was win. I even liked Voyager.

I'm surprised at the amount of DS9 hate in this thread. I thought it was the best Star Trek series ever, and I've heard a lot of Trek/sci-fi fans say the same thing.

Agreed 100%. I admit I never watched much of the older Star Trek or TNG. But of the newer stuff, Voyager was the best, and Enterprise was a close second (it would have been better without the Tucker-T'pol relationship).

Filler mostly. It made the whole thing almost as bad as the Voyager.

But also the overabundace of Bajorans. Okay, it's nice we get more background and details on one of the larger races in the trek-verse, but come on enough with the barely hidden constant philosophical arguing and point-proving.

Yes, there were good episodes and Sisko can rock the station sometimes, but as a series it just left me with a feeling of 'meh'.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine...

...was trying too damn hard to be Babylon 5, both to its credit and to its detriment.

I might of liked the whole War aspect of the show if it didnt take them 5 frekaing years to get going with it.

That and it was INREDIBLY boring.

You know why DS9 existed at all right?

TNG was coming to a close, and whoever produces/owns the ST franchise got wind of a new sci-fi TV series being released, one that had been in the works since about the time that TNG had started. Fearing they'd lose their fans, the makers of ST hastily made DS9, and managed to get it to to be released a week BEFORE Babylon 5 started, just so that ST wouldn't lose any of it's fan base to this new, upstart series.

Pretty stupid eh?

I going to do better than give you my opinion on DS9, I'll give you my opinion on all the Star Trek series. Please note, that I am not a Trekkie. I have never been to a convention, and do not own any seasons of any star trek show, I am however, a fan. I enjoy the series, without losing sensibility or reason.

The Original Star Trek show: It was ok, at best. Personally, I didn't like it, but it's from way before my time too. That may have an effect on my opinion. I found the story lines to often be unimaginitive, the acting to be horrible, and the aliens are just uninspired ripoffs of actual culture's and races.

The Next Generation: This is tied as my favorite Star Trek show. With the exception of the first few seasons, the show is generally well done, with original storylines, decent to great acting, and intrigiing characters. Most notably the character Data.

Deep Space Nine: I thought it was ok. I enjoyed most of the first few seasons episodes. The show's emphasis on religion and politics was an interesting change of pace from the typical "exploration" themed series. I thought it eventually grew stagnant, and lost interest in the show when it moved to it's "war" theme.

Voyager: This is the other favorite of mine. It took a brand new spin on the whole "exploration" concept. Again, the presence of an interesting character became a major draw for me. The holographic Doctor was an original character, and was featured in many episodes. Although I hate to admit it, Seven of Nine ( Jeri Ryan) also became a reason I liked the show.

Enterprise: While the actress playing the vulcan was enough to get me to watch the show a few times, the entire series was straight crap. Disjointed storylines, total abandon of all the previous series canon, and horrible acting destroyed the Star Trek universe for me.

Bonus: The New Star Trek Movie: Having not been a fan of the original series, this movie was easy for me to accept. It's "alternate universe" storyline fits within the established canon. While it lacks the typical Trek intelligence and falls short in some of it's acting skill, the movie was enjoyable for me.

DS9 was better than Voyager though not as good as TNG.

DS9 at its best moments actually was going somewhere, and yes I think the whole Bajoran religion thing and the end fight between Sisko and Gul Dukat was truly crappy sicne Dukat was an ACTUAL THREE DIMENSIONAL character until they turned him into a card board villian for Captain Kirk vs the Gorn rematch.

The problems were many though: Namely the crappy Bajoran religion nonsense (which dovetails into above) and the fact that the Founders are probably the only race in the universe against whom genocide doesnt sound like such a bad idea - specifically on the grounds of being well and truly insufferable. In a universe with the likes of the Q, that's reaching new depths of chutzpah and hubris.

P.S

"Enterprise" is a dark nightmare which I hope we all have the good sense to forget. PEEEE UUUU.

The Bajorans were very annoying. Always aggressive. Always religious. Always behaving the same predictable way.
Also bad was stuff like the baseball game episode and Vic Fontaine and all that crap (so that'd be filler), but while there was a lot of it, it was still less than the annoying Bajorans. The only interesting Bajorans were from the mirror universe and very few exceptional people from the normal universe...

I found the lack of Picard rather refreshing. The concept was interesting, but even as a Trek fan, I have to say that Babylon 5 took the concept and really ran with it. Berman just wasn't able to create a decent Trek.
