Have have been really sick for a month now so I have spent most of my time watching old TV shows. About half way into DS9 I started to think which was the most popular.

I have to go with TNG. DS9 almost wins but I really hate the prophets/ Emissary crap. It just does not seem to fit with the rest of the show. Plus in later seasons when the war is in full swing the religion sub plot is just in the way. There is an intersteller war happening but who wants to see that when we can have a whole episode about religion!

Plus TNG has Data. I love Data.

I actually liked the Religious part of DS9. I thought it was neat how it contrasted with the Federation's atheist society, and how it in turn affected Sisko by making him the Emissary.

I remember watching a video on Cracked where some people were talking about how the Federation is actually evil for a variety of reasons and the atheism/communism aspect of it was something they mentioned. I thought that was pretty funny.

Are you sure they weren't talking about the Starship Troopers Federation? Oh wait, that's the insanely religious fascist fanatics. total opposite.

I always liked the Starship Troopers Federation. I wasn't religious at all. Very militaristic and fascist though. I like that you need to serve to vote.

Well TNG is probably the most popular but I always liked DS9. It had a nice dynamice being a hub station where all sorts of people could pass through. It gave it a bit of a dirtier feel in appearance and in theme in a lot of episodes. I also liked the character interaction a bit more. There was a bit in TNG but DS9 seemed to focus on it more. Plus DS9 had Garak. Garak was just fun to watch.

Picard, Data, Geordie, the Borg, Worf, TNG all the way... I also really like DS9.

For the series as a whole? Deep Space 9.
For episodes that you can watch without having an overall arching story? Next Generation.

Though, I never did see how Enterprise ended... Was Archer able to make the final leap home?

The third movie has them turning into religious zealots as well as militaristic fascists. The movie was awful, but it was better than the aliens ripoff of the second film

Honestly can't figure out how people thought the Federation was "atheist" in Star Trek, considering several main characters (Worf, Sisko, Kira, Picard, Guinan, Vulcans) have entire episodes devoted to their religious practices and how that affects their careers/society. Usually in a positive light. The Federation just has the same Separation of Church and State concept as the U.S. does in their Constitution, for the most part.

Curious, was the Federation itself described as Communist? Because while humanity does not have any currency or nations in the 24th century, they still have careers, cutthroat promotions and politics and interstellar trade with other species involving valuable items like latinum and dilithium. There is also no centralized government for the entire Federation, at least not one that determines economic and social policy for everyone that is part of the Federation.

The Borg and the Romulans, alongside maybe the Klingons are usually considered the Communists and Fascists in the Star Trek universe - the Borg being the most Extreme Communist horde, and the Romulans/Klingons are the semi-fascist military dictatorship in each series (Senate/Council is more or less the Praetors/Emperors hands, and the Tal Shiar being the KGB (though arguable Section 31 is a KGB metaphor too)).

OT: TNG and DS9 are my most favorite, DS9 mostly for the Dominion War arch and Worf's continued character development after TNG.

I liked Ds9 better mainly because Cisco was my favorite Captain and Warf was still in it (my favorite character).

After that it's TNG.

Didn't even like Voyager at all (was it even on your list?).

And I could only watch a few of Enterprise.

As far as the original.....It was good for it's time...and I liked it well enough before TNG...but it doesn't hold up well for me.

Enterprise had my favorite opening! haha, I only said that because you said no one would pick enterprise. I actually didn't hate enterprise as a series, but it wasn't my favorite by far.

My favorite series was probably Voyager, with Star Trek the Next Generation as my second, with DP9 as a close third. I didn't like the original much...so sue me.

I loved Voyagers characters the most, and I have fond memories watching that show with my mother.

TNG. I think it's mostly due to my age and when that series was going on. (hint hint, it was at the same time).
I'm surprised there aren't more original series votes though with how much people tend to gush over it.

Hmm, I'm a bit split on the issue.

When I was younger, I loved Voyager. Like, I was REALLY into that show, loved everything about it. Course now I realize the huge amounts of techno-babble and bunch of out of character moments for everyone occasionally. Despite what I know about Voyager now, I absolutely love their two part episodes. I always felt like those were done extremely well.

But I think I like DS9 the best. Have an large arc expanding over the whole series worked really well in my opinion. They had a bunch of good stand alone episodes (which may or may not have contributed to the overall plot).

I have never really watched too much of TNG, but I don't exactly like it.

Enterprise, from what I saw of the last season actually got pretty good.

Oh. Yeah. I never saw those. As far as I'm concerned they don't exist. lol. The first Starship Troopers was so undeniably brilliant that there was no hope of living up to it for any sequels, much less any direct-to-video budget ones.

I liked Voyager's "We are lost and running for home, but we will meet new and unusual people and see cool things along the way" story, but the series lacked a lot of believability when every solution was some variety of "shift the phase variance on one of the emitter arrays."

Creatures attacking in vacuum: shift the tractor beam phase
Ionization is sucking power from the reactor: Tractor beam again
We are hearing a transmission we can't read: Shift the phase variance on the transmitter array
It is us sending the message from the past: Shift the phase variance of the phaser array to widen the hole in the space time continuum
The reactor is going to overload: Shift the phase variance of our phasers to project a wall to contain the explosion

And that is just what I remember of watching the first and Second season on Netflix two years ago. (I use Netflix to marathon shows, and Voyager falls the fuck apart when you end up seeing the same solution to three different problems in three episodes of the same season.)

Of the three series I remember seeing, TNG has the best storyline overall, although I admit not caring about DS9 because I had to sit through it with my father when I visited him for the summer, and didn't get into Star Trek until after two summers of that, and that is when I found Voyager.

I don't remember anything about DS9 other than contrived appearances by previously popular cast members from the other series. Also, the first episode of Voyager took place on DS9 for a short time as well. That said, Fuck the Ferengi!

My father thinks I should give it a watch, but right now I am watching Two and a Half Men, and then I want to do TNG since I don't know how that series begins or ends, and Nemesis is my favorite movie.

The Federation "strives to be the best it can be" in everything and values absolute equality in everything. There is no money, people just do whatever they want to. It goes out of its way to make people work together and be equal.
If I remember right, the Dominion was supposed to be a king of "anti-federation." Same idea, different execution. And it was ruled by a single ruling species instead of a council of equal species, much more like the current UN.

So while not communistic per se, it had communistic tendencies.

I rather like all the ones EXCEPT DS9, personally. It had its charms at first, but it grew old for me, and it wasn't really about the thing that Star Trek was about: Strange new worlds and seeking out new life, etc. Ya want a good show about a station, gimme Babylon 5.
