Suffers from some bad consolitis (which is why I prefer the first one), and you have to be on at certain times of day to find a decent amount of people online.

If you're looking for a game that ages well, it isn't the one. However, I still think its fun and there is still an active only community out there so snatch it up.

Is both Battlefronts and Republic Commando worth $20? I see them in a bundle at Wal-Mart sometimes, I already have both KotOR's and all the Jedi Knights (Including Dark Forces) to play so they aren't top priorities or anything, just curious...

I have bought Battlefront 2 on three separate occasions.

I am a consumer whore.

It is absolutely worth it- I can't comment on the online player community, but it has created a model I think all online shooters should follow- it can be played in 1st or 3rd person at any time, every map has several modes and is playable with a FULL roster of bots, is a really well balanced competitive multiplayer shooter and yet craps all over the 'it's all about multiplayer' mantra with not just one hefty singleplayer campaign and instant action modes, but a whole other galactic conquest mode where you pick your faction and spread throughout the galaxy fighting foes as you meet them. Massive variety of units, weaons and vehicles, a decent mapping and modding community, and has some insane crazy moments that just emerge out of regular gameplay.

And did I mention that if you do well enough you can temporarily become key heroes/villains from the movies to run through the battlefield carving up enemies left and right?

It also has currently the definitive version of the Battle of Hoth. Nothing else even comes close.

Best multiplayer vehicular FPS game since bf1942.

So you're saying it's better than BF2? Because that's seriously impressive. As much as I love 1942, the series didn't really hit its stride until the sequel, mainly because of improvements in the way teamwork was encouraged. The squad and commander system in BF2 is a sight to behold, at least when you're on a server where people actually use it.

Bear in mind this is just my opinion- if the squad dynamics are what really sucked you in to BF2, then no, you will probably still prefer BF2.

I preferred '42 to 2 because it was less buggy, and the battles were large enough to be called battles. 64 bots in a full map sized match right out of the box, and the vehicle balancing was just nailed, FAR better than BF2 did. The planes, for example, were pretty well countered by '42's flak guns, and since they were the older WW2 variety, dogfighting was still practical and therefore, much more fun to fly.

The battlefront games are probably the closest games to the original BF 1942 this side of Codename Eagle. What this means is while you won't get the squads or artillery strikes from BF2, you WILL get the more frantic action, generally better balanced vehicles, battles that actually had wide consequences (well you know... in context of the story at least), and the inclusion of a CTF mode like 1942 had.

And as for games that make you feel like you're in the world of the movie it's based on, battlefront 2 gets top marks, too.

1. Buy it
2. Install the unofficial patch
3. Install the conversion pack which adds more content from BF1 and KOTOR
4. ????
5. Profit

I love BF mainly for the space maps, because there are few games like that out there.

The game is worth it, even if only for the spaceship combat (which is a genre more endangered than cyborg pandas). It's a pretty solid space shooter that you don't need a joystick to play. They got the mouse controls right.

Also, most of the game is a generic 'capture the control points' FPS, with little rewards and unlocks for getting kills and the like - although they're lost when you die. If you get them frequently enough though, the unlocks eventually become permanent, but it takes a nightmarishly long time.

Geonosis is a stupidly easy map, whether you play as the republic or the droids. The republic gets an AT-TE, which you can pretty much solo the entire match with. The spider droids' beam cannons skewer through vehicles, so if you aim in the general direction of the AT-TE's exposed gunner, you'll insta-kill him - and the nearby troops climb into that turret almost instantly, so it pretty much rains bodies.

I picked it up during the summer sale was only $2.50 :p . If your mostly interested in multiplayer then you will be able to find a few large games going. If your bored of the games you have and want some star wars action I say pick it up.

Compare the value to anything else you might spend $5 on. That's a beer in a bar. It's 1/2 the price of a movie ticket. It's what you used to pay to rent a movie when BlockBuster still existed.

Even if you only pick it up and play it for one afternoon/evening it's worth it.

There's a good chance you'll like it and play it more - so then it's just gravy.

If you like shiny shooters, you may be underwhelmed. But if you even remotely like the StarWars universe, and would like something to wash the taste of the last 3 movies out of your mind, then it's a no-brainer: DO IT!! What's more fun than lighting up a couple of Wookies with sniper rifle? It's a lot of fun multiplayer and if you can get a friend over, the split-screen isn't bad at all.

Personal preference: The specialty classes seem to be unbalanced - I spend most of my time with whatever class carries a basic combat rifle. Best combination of rate of fire, power, accuracy.

the game itself is definitely fucking worth it, although the pc controls for it are very annoying to me i'm trying to adjust to it so i can play the game i grew up loving to bits.

also republic commando is very much worth it, that game needs a sequel ASAP

Get it. Get it right now.
Especially for multiplayer if you have friends who like star wars!

It's so good I wish I didn't already have it, just so I could experience the joy of purchasing such an awesome title for only $5.

Oh and yes there are PLENTY of mods out there... some very good ones.
