Personally, I dislike remakes. However, SW:KOTOR needs to be remade. Why? Because try playing that stupid thing on a modern computer and it crashes every few minutes because... The graphics card is too advanced. Yeah, you have to downgrade your computer to play the game. Seriously, why? I wouldn't mind a remake that just fixed that part and maybe a few technical issues, but nothing really more.
I think it has less to do with graphics and more to do with the fact that it is not compatible with windows 7.
Strange, I've been able to run both KOTOR 1 and 2 on Windows 7 with only a minor fan patch. I'm running off of 32bit though, I'm not sure if there's any 64bit problems.
oh ive had a shload of problems with older games on 64 bit computers -_- fucking minecraft wont play very well, mount and blade with fire and sword, oblivion etc.

KOTOR 1 and 2 and then making KOTOR 3
Didn't Bioware announce that Old Republic was KOTOR 3-9?
Doesn't count. I have no desire in the old republic at all but that's not why I'm saying it doesn't count. I'm saying it because 1. it doesn't follow the same battle system at all 2. it's an MMO and I have no interest in paying 15$ a month so I can find out what happened to characters that are NOT my own and have my choices overridden 75% of the time because of that stupid dialog system. Considering TOR takes place about 200 years after anything I did in KOTOR 1&2 my decisions in those games basically mean absolutely nothing. I'm sure if I took more time I could come up with more that don't repeat themselves but for the time being I have absolutely no desire to buy TOR at all. I doubt it will give any closure aside from "they are dead" a fate I could 100% accurately predict for roughly anyone alive that didn't freeze themselves. Were it not such a big risk for Lucasarts in the first place I would hope that it crashes and burns nearly immediately but considering if this fails they could gauge that no one will buy any more and we would never get another game from many of the great games that deserved them that I listed. But I realize that odds are if this fails then they aren't far behind closing down.

For the most part i agree with 80Maxwell, however i am a little interested in playing but do not think I will get hooked. The only reason why i hope it does well is because that might make Lucasarts and Bioware realize they can make a lot of money off this series and that there are still a lot fans that would love to see another game.

Im just angry that A great game such as Kotor is not up for being remade while Halo 1 is being remade for the 2nd or 3rd time.
Wait, what? Halo 1 is only getting the remake treatment once so far with Anniversary. Or were you referring to the PC version that only added online support and maybe a new weapon or two?

I wouldn't mind at all, particularly if it was for the PC. Give it updated graphics, a fully orchestrated soundtrack, fix the compatibility issues with modern operating systems, and make it mod-friendly. Much like Morrowind, I can't play KOTOR anymore without modding the crap out of it.

Of course, it would also be nice if KOTOR 2 was remade with a proper ending instead of having to rely on the modding community to patch things up.

@ OP Your talking about an HD remake for consoles? maybe. There are many mods out there for KotOR and KotOR 2 on PC that can make the game more enjoyable. But adding multiple mods isn't always the easiest if you have no knowledge of how to edit the game files.

My Fear with an HD Remake from Bioware/EA would mean gallons of blood for no reason.

I read that the Steam version has issues with some mods which is really unfortunate cause there are some pretty cool mods out for those games..

I voted no for a PC, remake. I'm not against HD remakes though, I never played ICO or Shadow of the Collossus so I am looking forward to playing the HD upgrade of those games.

Now if your talking about a Series Reboot I'd have to say no again. KotOR was a great experience. KotOR 2 was ok(had many plot holes which ruined some of the game) I say let that game be and if your itching for more and like MMO's then there is always SWTOR.

Kotor should only be made if a series reboot happens. Even then Kotor 1 only needs a HD update as I found the game an incredible experience. Kotor 2 is where most of the work needs to go.

Kotor 2 was a good game dont get me wrong but it didnt have that complete feeling that the orginal had. Not to mention all the bugs, glitches and plot holes it had.

However this doesnt matter unless a Kotor 3 is made. I cannot comprehend why they have made the move to an MMO and stated that kotor 3 onwards will be incorperated into the game. Kotor is and always will be a single player RPG and its odd that bioware would deviate from this path. Kotor 3 needs to be made and an MMO isnt going to cut it. All the choices you made, the experiences you had and all the plot holes that utterly DEMANDED a third game will be laid to waste and replaced with an MMO.

Its a sad time to be a Kotor fan.....

There is no need for a kotor 1 remake as everything to make it good was done already in the game itself. A kotor 2 remake is better because allot of it was unfinished and to be honest, I liked the second one more because it's story was much deeper and not another typical "go up against unbeatable odds, save the galaxy and beat the evil mastermind guy"-story.

Need one: No most certainly not.

Want one: Most definitely, I mean I loved the game but if it was redone with perhaps a more in-depth character creator and graphics boost you won't hear me complaining.

NEEEEEWWWWWWW IP...NEEEWWWWWWW IP...NEEEEWWWWWW IP...

Seriously though, Knights of the Old Republic was maybe my favorite game of all time until I played Mass Effect, but this wasn't a game that was severely limited in how far it could accomplish its goals by the technology of the time, so I really don't see the purpose. Remakes aren't necessarily a bad thing, but they should be given to games that could be fundamentally significantly improved by the wisdom of experience and new technology. Bring on Sky Odyssey with next-gen graphics and a varied, open world mission design!

Urg.

I found KOTOR an absolute chore to play through. Granted, it certainly had its moments, but they never managed to make up for the dreary majority, at least for me.

If they were to remake it then... eh, fine. I wouldn't be mad or anything, but I can certainly think of better uses for Bioware's time.

Not remade, but graphics and texture updates would be great. Like with Halo: Anniversary. Just graphics.

EDIT: Before you quote me, most solutions people keep offering do not work with the Steam version, as you cannot dissect it as easily as you would with the CD in your drive and mix things around. Even then, if a game requires this much work-around just to even play it on a modern computer, then it should be remade to make it compatible.
Huh, weird. I was gonna suggest getting it on Steam. Works fine on my PC, and that's basically state of the art...

OT: I'm happy enough with it as is, but I wouldn't say no to a remake.
