For those of you who haven't heard of the TOR ,check the developers site
www.swtor.com and the wiki
http://swtor.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Old_Republic_Wiki
Old Republic hasn't seen much attention lately due to very few press releases from Bioware.
But I sure would like to hear some opinions from you.

Saw the gameplay for it and ....it's shit. The only thing that was remotely new and interesting was the space rail fights.

EDIT: Graphics were also kinda bad.

What footage were you watching Reveras? As far as I know there isn't much footage out and from what I have seen it looks pretty good. As far as rivaling WoW goes the graphics are freakin stellar IMO. I don't care for the cartoony feel to WoW personally. Gameplay, remains to be seen by me but I am kind of tired of the grind stuff. GW2 has me excited in that venue. Not sure how TOR will fare. (Will keep my fingers crossed.)

its like WoW, with jedi.

So ill probably just play Cataclysm since im not that hot on Star Wars anyways.

Though i am looking forward to The Secret World, it looks interesting with its skill based combat and no lvls.

Except it's fully voiced with fully set out storylines and flashpoints? And companions? and Smugglers? and Imperial Agents? 200 hours of story for every class? And 16 advanced classes? I could go on like this but you get the point, generalizing like that makes you look like a poor WoW fanboy.

In any case. TOR doesn't actually have to compete with WoW to be successful, at least not in the traditional sense, there is room for multiple successful MMOs on the market.

If TOR can even make and sustain 2 million subs it will be a massive success.

Dude, chill, all i said it looked like wow, and thats the impression i get.
Voiceovers and Companions are gimicks that dont interest me in the slightest, its an mmo, a week after its out, all the storylines will be on TORhead.com or sth anyways and people are going to theorycraft how to get the best companion, armor, loot, ending, lightsaber or glitch their way to Coruscant.

Bioware since the start didnt understand MMO dynamics, i tried to warn them in an email about their "story driven" mmo, but hey, their call.

It's definitely not a WoW clone from the footage i've seen so far, as to whether it will rival it only time will tell.

Personally im not too interested in it, I prefer the medieval sword & magic style MMO's to futuristic ones.

All that said i'll probably give it a shot when they release free trials.

I dont think it will beat WoW but it will get a large-ish fanbase so I think it will do well and after a few years might get a fanbase to rival it but no it wont beat it, they may coexist though.

I personally perfer because I played WoW for about a month and hated the graphics and the lack of feeling like im important and it just seemed to easiy and boring.

TOR on the other hand looks like it will keep me intrested with its story and charcters. I play games for the story and the charcters not to spend a month ginding to get to the next level so I can do a quest similar to the one I just did and then have to grind again. And from what Bioware have said you can solo most of the story and it shouldent be hard to find a group(I perfer to play by my self).

So bottom line, I dont think it will beat WoW but after a few years they might coexist.

If that's what you reckon. I'll be here to say I told you so I guess. "Voiceovers" are a gimmick? It's completely voiced with cutscenes, it's not just "voiceovers". What wouldn't be a "gimmick" to you? Personally having an MMO voiced should be the norm. Story in MMOs has fallen by the wayside and it's made them boring as hell, especially when leveling. TOR changes that. Sure it will be an MMO at end game, but it will still be very different from WoW. Do some research.

And I'm sure your warning email was very helpful to them, I mean it's not like you're completely in the minority and the story aspect has brought a ton of interested players who have never played MMOs before...oh wait.

Not for me... Absolutely not for me. And will it contend WoW for the masses? Long answer: No...

We will need to actually see the conclusion of this, i am merely stating my opinion that SW TOR does not bring enough innovation to the table to compete with WoW. Its a "safe bet"-mmo, being just different enough to pull the Star Wars fan.

What wouldn't be a gimmick to me (in context of making it different to WoW):

1.Innovative combat/raid mechanics not tied to the class-trinity (tank-dps-healer)
2.Action-combat with hit-detection, possibly multiple hit-zones, combos, skillbased
3.highly customizable loot (not gemming, actual modifications with external changes to models)
4.departure from the talent-tree and cooldown/mana mechanics
5.hybridization
6.persistent world
8.No LVLs
9.sandbox PVP

If 3 out of 9 would be included it would make TOR unique from WoW.

It is obvious that they're trying to seduce WoW-fans into it.
I really don't get this, how is it a modified WoW clone? I've been following it pretty closely and to me it's far different. It has similarities, sure. It's an MMO. But it has a huge amount of differences.

Honestly, how many times have we heard this "will be bigger than WoW" crap? It's not going to happen, if it does, I'll be proven wrong and I certainly hope I am, but basically until it comes out and completely wrecks WoW's shit, I'll stick to my fallback position of "sod off you tosser". All this talk of extra depth in The Old Republic, great for us who would appreciate it, but for the pre-pubescent masses teabagging people on their Death Knights in their free epics gives all the instant gratification they need.
You might be right, however TOR already has almost 800,000 registered users signed up on the site(and presumably for beta), so it would seem more then just a small group of enthusiasts.

I am so excited for Star Wars: The Old Republic. I think it will be a great game. The reason I am so eager for it is to play the single player story. Bioware is known for their excellent writing and that is one of big reasons I can't wait to get it.

I don't understand why people are trying to compare The Old Republic with WoW. They are two different MMOs with different focuses on what they want to do.

Fully voice is a safe bet? You know thats an extremely expensive aspect of a game design, even for a straight up RPG let along an MMO. Honestly Im fairly excited about a story driven MMO.

Why do you people have to compare every MMO to WoW? Who cares if they're similar or not? Why does it matter if it contends with WoW or not? Can't they coexist peacefully together?

Protip: Darwin's Law doesn't pertain to gaming.
