It will probably be somewhat similar to SWG after it was ruined but with a story, which will be amazing. I'm very optimistic for it but I'm burned out on themepark mmo's until GW2 so I'm unlikely to stop playing Mortal Online when it comes out.

Why do you people have to compare every MMO to WoW? Who cares if they're similar or not? Why does it matter if it contends with WoW or not? Can't they coexist peacefully together?

Protip: Darwin's Law doesn't pertain to gaming.
Whats darwins law?

Fully voiced is a safe bet? You know thats an extremely expensive aspect of a game design, even for a straight up RPG let alone an MMO. Honestly Im fairly excited about a story driven MMO.
*facepalm*
How is that requiring a facepalm? My rebuttle was to point out that an extremely large financial investment in a field of a genre not not known for it. IN FACT give the financia investment of an MMO in the first place, it in itself is a gigantic risk.

Perhaps you dont understand what development "risk" is.

Meh.

It's just another MMO.

Not even Bioware can make me interested in one of those.

Rivaling WoWCrack isn't just aboot quality. People won't play a new MMO because other people don't play it. That's because all of the people who would play MMO's are playing WoWCrack. City of Came out before WoW, and was more fun to play, but due to Lizard's star power amongst PC gamers they won.

Darwin's Law (or theory) of Evolution by Natural Selection. Every individual in every generation is different and some survive better than others. The genetic traits of the surviving species continue and the others die off.

Hence hes saying that multiple MMOs can coexist because there is no genetic survival and there is no need for every individual to be different.

a. i never talked about "development risk", read my posts and stop inferring meaning where there is none
b. i was talking about innovation and "safe-bet" in that context.

try to read what i actually write next time instead of reading what you THINK i wrote.

No I personally do not think that it will make a dent in WoW's market share. Well not a significant one anyway. The one thing I think might have a chance of beating WoW or even coming close to denting its market share or even putting up another good fight is GW2. GW1 being the best non sub paying game of their type I think its sequel could do something good.

Nothing will ever beat WoW, SWTOR won't be as big as 11 Million, not by a long shot. It will be a great game the a lot of people play, but I don't think it is any large threat to WoW.

Innovation is a subset of Development. How can you possibly talk about innovation within a game that is...you know... in development, and pretend your not talking about development?

The irony of what you define as not being gimmicky was not really worth mention.

I'm gonna buy it. And play it. Its the only MMO I want to play. Mainly because Bioware is developing it.

I don't think it will beat WoW by sheer numbers alone, but fuck it. I play my games for the storyline, character development, and history of the material. The Old Republic is the most interesting period of Star Wars "lore", with some of the best characters of the series in that time-frame. TOR is one of those one's I'm not grinding in, just enjoying the story.

WoW is just a grind-fest with little toons. Sure, it appeals to a vast fanbase, but.. it just doesn't have the story and complexity that TOR will. Personally speaking, that is.

Edit: Also, Bioware is behind this. The story driven elements of this MMO are safe in their hands.

Never heard it used as "Darwins Law", just Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection, or in short Evolution.

If anyone can at least rival WoW it would be something Bioware made.

Dont discount it because it's Star Wars. The graphics are sharper than WoW's at present and the depth seems to be pretty good. And with a clear and defining story it offers RPGers a opportunity to get in on it too.

It wont be a wow killer because wow is already out, and people play it, people know it. TOR however will compete with it in my honest opinon due to its innovative fully voiced story driven gameplay. Wow cant deliver this, Tor can.

It's a completely different game. Not a clone. It isn't going to do what WoW does better, or what wow does, for that matter. I wish people would stop making these threads. They are stupid! If anyone leaves WoW for SW:ToR, then it's because they want something different, not better.
