Such a shame this show had to go. I honestly despised season one and the first half of season 2. But when they finally dropped the whole Chloe crap and focused on the interesting characters like Eli, Young and a few of the other guys it got so good.
Definitely not a fan of the ending though, to me I think with everything going dark, and Eli staring about gave a sense of hopelessness to me and kind of implied that Eli was going to die.

DUDE SPOIL THAT STUFF MUCH
Seriously un-f*cking cool.

GAH

anyway yes i will miss the show, and too anyone saying it was too different then the other too, well it was trying to be more grounded. (and for the record sga was just copypasta, not really worth watching when you had sg1 around).

I'll watch it when i get some free time.

I'll miss the franchise though :(
Dude....it's 2 days after the fact and I think one would expect people discussing it considering it is a final episode thread.
Even then I really didn't spoil anything, I'm just speculating on the cliffhanger ending. No one knows for sure what happened at all.

I never really watched Universe or Atlantis. SG1 was fantastic though! I only stopped watching it when Colonel O'Neil left the series, I cried a little inside when he left :(

For me, the reason it got better a little after half-way through season 2 was not that they started focusing on other characters, it was the fact that they finally started giving actual sci-fi and Stargate-centric plots the majority of each episode's time.

For the first serious and a half it was:

Every other episode or so it injected about 5 minutes -- 10 minutes at most of spot for something that could relate and make the viewers feel they are watching a Stargate show, but then take it away quickly and make us watch a bunch of crew infighting and soap opera love triangle crap. Oh here are some aliens, they look interesting, want to know more about them, well tough we want you to see Eli agonize over whether Chloe loves him or not. Oh, you don't like that, would it help if we made Chloe an alien. We are only halfway to what you think will be interesting, well we think it would be more entertaining that you watch Scott cry and get angry for ten minutes about Chloe becoming an alien.

I don't see how they thought that fans of SG-1 and Atlantis would find that drivel interesting. They kept dangling the Stargate and this interesting old Ancient ship in front of the fans then when the fans showed up they pulled it away and said, "Ha ha, fooled you! It is just a soap opera that happens to be very loosely based in the universe of Stargate."

It was an okay finale. It should stand as a testament of what could have been if the writers actually knew how to keep to what made Stargate great.

To give you solid stuff to go on for this thread:

I watched it. It was okay. They took too long to turn the series into a proper Stargate show. So on the franchise, it was great and awesome from SG-1 to the end of Atlantis(idiotically canceled in favor of Universe).

Then they brought in SGU. They had the awesomeness of the other shows to go on, it was obvious what made them great. They were serious and not serious at the same time; they were proper sci-fi shows.

But instead of looking at all that and staying with it, they threw out a perfectly awesome formula and said, "Here is a SOAP OPERA IN SPACE, oh and here is a Stargate that is on a ship, though you couldn't possibly be interested in those old things. Also by the way, we decided to mimic the shitty filming style of Battlestar Galactic, it's just so edgy."

Yeah, the good stuff came out a little too late. The show deserved to die to become a reminder.

I gave the show a fair chance, it was no SG1/SGA but I stuck with it for all of season 1. It was ok, it had its moments but overall, just wasn't that good. The SE1 finale was shockingly dull and I felt no need to continue watching for SE2. Rather surprised it's been canceled so soon but no great loss.

Hopefully once MGM get their finances sorted we can maybe get that third SG1 movie and the SGA one.

SGU is what got me into Stargate. I really enjoy the tone, characters, and overall plot. Pretty sad to see it go.

I was kind of hoping the sci-fi channel (I am not going to refer to it to its re-branded name) would give them money to produce another final episode but I think the one we're seeing tonight has been on the shelf for awhile.

Just finished it.

Fuck I'm going to miss this show.

Tried watching SG1 and Atlantis, but never was able to watch a whole episode without wanting to change the channel to something else. SGU got me to like Stargate and I'm bummed to see it cancelled.

Read an article today saying another 2 shows I like are being cancelled...

...goddammit.

Yeah, season 1 would have had a better finale if focused just on the aliens that they showed so little of, maybe a big finale that only dealt with them as the problem.

But instead of that we get:

(What could be more exciting than mysterious aliens, oh, well we believe the Lucian Alliance is far more interesting, because what is more interesting than humans dealing with aliens, humans dealing with humans. Oops, how could that be dull. Oh well, nobody could possibly be mad with how we've been writing, our writing is awesome. Wink, wink.)

I didn't really like SGU. SG1 was awesome, until season 8. SGA was good. SGU was just....meh.

Still, its sad that there will be no more. MGM are in such trouble, and (in my mind at least) a big part of that is that they didn't capitalise on stargate very well. Look at star trek and star wars - not just the series, films, computer games and all the rest. How many stargate games have you seen?
SGU is realms better than SGA I find.
Characters are less.... cardboard.

Who knows maybe it will pull a Primeval and get picked up again.
I would be okay with this, just as long as they fired the parts of the writing staff that wrote the first season and a half, and change the filming style back to the traditional style they used for SG-1 and Atlantis, none of that grainy shaky-cam stuff that makes it look like I'm actually watching somebody filming it(It's a TV show, not a home movie or a war documentary).

They would have to do what they did with the last few episodes, 75 or more percent sci-fi plot that doesn't deal heavily with the characters for each episode. SG-1 and Atlantis, while they had awesome characters they never derail the shows from their sci-fi cores.

Honestly, I'm with all the other people who didn't go for SGU. To me, it seems like they tried to go the "Younger and Edgier" route and it failed. Hard. It deviated so much from SG-1 and Atlantis that it really didn't feel like Stargate to me.

Instead, I've been watching Seasons 9 and 10 of SG-1 on Hulu lately :D

At least SGA's characters made it feel like a sci-fi show and not like the soap opera acting of SGU that pulled the show away from the point that it was sci-fi and Stargate no less, not a soap opera. Sci-fi, depending on the nature of the story elements, is 99.99% of the time suppose to have mainly non-character plots, characters are just to be supplements to sci-fi. That doesn't mean the characters can't be good or fantastic, it just means that they can't steal the show and cover up the point of the show(The technology, space, or aliens, or all of the above).

Bl*ody hell! Spoiler alert! Wait to go ruin an entire show I've invested hours in, gee thanks. Could've titled the thread 'Season Finale' in which case, I would've thought 'oh, last of the season eh? Read your 'Spoiler alert' in the OP (which I hope is there, I can't look at it in fear that I'll read something that makes this news worse), then say 'oh, well, I don't want to know about what's happening, so I'll skip this thread'.

Stargate Universe is an excellent show, I hope this isn't the 'end' end, and just the end of the season, if it is the final finale, I'll be thoroughly disappointed, this is a show that could go on for a total of 5 or 7 seasons, and to end it at season 2 or 3 would be a grave injustice. All those baste*ds watching f*cking reality TV, you've ruined television!

I'm so gonna miss this show, it's a shame it died so quickly. That said, I loved the ending, it pretty much sums up why I loved this show.

And to everyone who says SG-1 and Atlantis is better: Why the fuck are you guys still comparing these shows? Are you really this stupid? This was so obviously never supposed to be anything like those shows. It's like comparing ice cream to fondue. If you're gonna compare Universe to something, compare it to Battlestar Galactica.
