Oh I love steampunk. I love the hungry cities books, my favourite (And only one I've watched the whole way through without getting bored) anime film is Steamboy and I also loooooove Bioshock. Are there any movies that spring to mind when it comes to steampunk, the best I can think of is that ol' classic Wild Wild West.

Cyberpunk, for all the slickness it brings (unless it's more post-apocalyptic but that's it's own genre) is really just crazy internet interfaces and biotechnology (ie Johnny Mnemonic, Blade Runner, Minority Report.)
Minority Report isn't really cyberpunk, there's no dystopian urban sprawl, no mega corps, no "low life" and no cyberspace element to it, it's just pretty much straight near future Sci-Fi. Blade Runner isn't really cyberpunk in it's overall plot, but the world is clearly a cyberpunk world, and it has many of the elements, hence I guess I would properly call it cyberpunk.

Steampunk- its just so damn classy. Any genre that allows you to wear a top hat and have it be socially permissible is awesome in my book.

I've got one name to mention: Leonardo Da Vinci.

Steampunk wins.

EDIT:
I don't care if Leonardo isn't steampunk. They're both still awesome.
My toughts exactly! Leonardo made so much awesome designs, he might as well be the father of Steampunk! Didn't he even invent a steam powered battle tank?! Also, he made a robotic lion that could walk and stuff; we're talking 1515 AD!!!!!!!!

I tend more towards cyberpunk, as I love the minimist functionally of it all. But I also enjoy Steampunk, with its classic era design and moving parts.

What a truly bizarre question. It reminds me of the Extras' character who starred (and is a much better actor by an order of magnitude than) opposite Ricky Gervais. 'Would you rather be eaten alive by ants or badgers?', 'Would you rather be coated in treacle or honey?', 'Would you rather I inserted this in you horizonatally or vertically'?

In response to the OP my answers are, who cares, neither, it's a stupid question, I prefer literature set in the antediluvian era. Take your pick!

What exactly are the 2?
Cyberpunk: Futuristic technology with cyber-themed presentation.

Steampunk: Futuristic or modern era technology based around steam instead of or in partnership with electricity.

Examples:
Cyberpunk: Think TRON, or something like this Half life 2 mod (Dystopia)

Steampunk: Think Bioshock or this comedy video
