Steampunk. I enjoy the general atmosphere. Also, I see Steampunk and Cyberpunk as metaphors for socialism and capitalism.

Thanks to the Thief series, I am going to have to go with Steampunk. Everything in those games was beautiful, dark, and serious.

Cyberpunk. Vast stretches of unlimited realities of cyberspace.

Steampunk seems to have the edge, but I'm going to base that on the sheer number of recent steampunkish game releases. The cyberpunk setting hasn't really been utilized recently in an effective matter as of late. Last bit I can remember would be the Matrix, but even that wasnt particularly cyberpunk. Prior to that are such winners like Johnny Mnemonic, not exactly a great note.

Steampunk, though I'll admit that I'm only of that opinion now because I've already spent a long time immersed elbow-deep in love for Cyberpunk so that now Clockwork Victoria is a refreshing change of pace.

Normally I would say steampunk just because it is more pleasing aesthetically, but I'm reading a cyberpunk novel (Neuromancer by William Gibson) now and really liking it. And check the search bar, there was another steam/cyber thread not too long ago.

I'll take a cyberpunk movie before a steampunk one, but I'd prefer a steampunk game. Don't know why.

I'm almost a living Cyberpunk, so for a fantasy setting, I prefer Steampunk.

I also absolutely love the machinery of steam.

Don't know if this has been mentioned...but China Mieville has several novels set in a steampunk universe.

Punchcard based AI, is a character in one novel.

So...steampunk.

I once made up a band called 'Steampunk' They wore suits made from the wheels of steam locomotives and had their vocal cords replaced by a string quartet, when they opened their mouths, the music from Arcanum would fill the air. good times . . .

Steampunk really interests me, but no1 displays quite what I want out of steampunk.

Cyberpunk is almost always cool. :p

Also, Cyber-Punk can actually be used as a genre of music but I know that's not what you meant.
So can steampunk: Abney Park [http://www.abneypark.com/].

For my vote, I went Steampunk. I like seeing what the world would've been like if technology had advanced quicker than it really did. Cyberpunk, for all the slickness it brings (unless it's more post-apocalyptic but that's it's own genre) is really just crazy internet interfaces and biotechnology (ie Johnny Mnemonic, Blade Runner, Minority Report.) Plus, I think the Victorian-esque lifestyle and costuming is much more interesting than patent leather trench coats, rubber bodysuits, and mirror shades.

I enjoyed the steampunk universe even before I knew what it was called, or that it even had a name, i have always LOVED big clunky metal machinery with plenty of moving parts, since I was really young even, Im just now realizing this concept actually has a name and a following...

Steampunk wins because I always have it use in the 1800's and that style mixed in the tech always works out beautifully

Realpunk. It's the style real life is in.

It's boring, but it's clothes that don't look retarted.

Plus we have sandwiches.

Steampunk. You ask why?

Zey do nuhthing!

Ahem. Anyway.

Tough choice for me.

(Pictures in spoilers btw).

Probably Cyberpunk takes it, and not just because I fucking love what I like to call dirty sci fi (probably shouldn't have googled that). Like Alien (the original), what I loved about it so much was that it made being a space pilot just another job. It's not all sleek sliding doors and teleportation.High tech, low society.

What ultimately tips it is the noir and hard-boiled elements in cyberpunk. Raymond Chandler is pretty much my favourite author ever. You can pretty much imagine my joy at seeing
