Lately i've been re-playing bioshock and wacthing Startrek on TV, and it got me thinking which is better, Steampunk or cyber punk? So i figured i'd pose the question to you, my fellow escapists.

Personaly i like Steampunk better because we are geting closer to cyberpunk every day and it's starting to seem...ordinary.

I like both, Ghost in the Shell is a perfect example of cyber punk and Bioshock for steam punk.
I can't decide!

Went for Cyberpunk as I love stuff like System Shock and Deus Ex (And obviously Ghost in the Shell) but I do love the steam-punk style as well.

I like Cyberpunk just look at my avatar... also Star Trek isn't cyberpunk, because cyberpunk is a sub genre of sci-fi that concentrates on the inclusions and effects of advanced technology in an everyday environment of society...

Steampunk just seems like a label people slap on any time they want to put robots in the dark ages.

There's a difference?
cyberpunk is a sub genre of sci-fi that concentrates on the inclusions and effects of advanced technology in an everyday environment of society, when Steampunk usually refers to an era or alternate era that uses steam as a primary power source...

Steam punk. There's something about overcomplicated arrays of cogs and pipes that really appeals to me on the asthetic level. Plus, many things designed with steampunk are made to look... pretty. As if technology is treated like an art. I don't know if I can explain it right.

Between the two, cyberpunk, simply because it allows for... anything. Out of all the punks, I'm sort of fond of dieselpunk, though.

Steampunk for movies/anime. It just looks cool. :)

Cyberpunk for RPG/videogames. Love the many options.

OP Star Trek isn't Cyberpunk, i mean just break it down cyber-PUNK.

Blade Runner is cyber punk, Syndicate is Cyperpunk, Deus Ex is cyberpunk. Cyberpunk at least makes sense most of the time as its in the future, anything is possible. But with Steampunk it seems you can take almost any form of modern technology and somehow justify it by adding steam to it. What's making the Steam? There's not not enough coal in the world for all your bullshit!
