I think good Steampunk is better than good Cyberpunk, but there is a lot more good cyberpunk out there. So much steampunk stuff is just silly or poorly executed, while Cyberpunk is now at a point where it has reached a level of consistency.

Why must I choose? Both are excellent when treated properly, both are annoying as hell when approached poorly. I'm in favor of all forms of the "Punk" Subgenre of SciFi/Fantasy.

Cyberpunk all the way. Steampunk is fine until they try weirdass stuff like steam powered computers or other modern technology and then it just kind of turns into a bad fanfic joke to me...

No matter how wacky cyber punk gets it's at least plausible. We may not have half-human half-animal people yet or cyborgs but cybernetics and genetic engineering are real...
But mechanical computers do exist today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analytical_engine while Ghost in the Shell level technology is decades, if not centuries, away.

I like steampunk. Lately I've gooten quite interested in the game Shadowrun so steampunk is getting some competition. But there's a steampunk RPG (Not videogame, like DnD and Shadowrun) where one can be a bloodmage working for the mafia, how awsome dosen't that consept sound?

I'd say steampunk, when compared to cyberpunk it's a relatively unexplored medium and what would you honestly prefer, a cyborg bloke riding an electronic jetpack or a gentleman in a top-hat with monocle and moustache riding a whimsical steampowered jetpack?

hmm cyberpunk good if not too real nowadays= early nineties probabaly it's golden era.
Steam punk oddities and guns that will surely get you to type steampunk in visual search.
About even really
But WHAT THE Hell is biopunk? (seriously)
Edit wait there like 5 (blank)punk styles so can somebody list them?

Dieselpunk. It exists.
Indeed, as BioShock is the closest thing to a dieselpunk videogame we've got. It's way too advanced for steampunk.
but Bioshock is more Art deco mixed with Steampunk and Biopunk...

Cyberpunk, since I prefer Ghost in the Shell to Steamboy and I will probably prefer Deus Ex: Human Revolution to Bioshock.

Cyberpunk, definitely. Steampunk just feels silly...

Also, Ghost in the Shell != Cyberpunk, it's post-Cyberpunk, not dystopic enough.

And BioShock is Biopunk (duh).

While the hat and monocle might need some super glue to stay on there's no reason you cant have a gentleman jetpacker...

I like Steampunk better. It's more of "what we could have been" instead of "what we can be in the future maybe."

Steampunk is certainly the better choice, my friend! Cyberpunk is potentially futuristic. Steampunk is the path not taken.

Steampunk, because I think it's awesome for the Victorian Era to run on Steam and have a brass and chrome Gear look.

(Whomever said Deiselpunk) We live in that kind of world unfortunately... Not everything runs on Diesel, but everything important does...

Also, how come no one has tried making Mineralpunk yet?
