http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2016/03/31/suicide-squad-reshoots-bode-well-for-the-dc-movieverse
*I'll start off with the caveat that this is a story that's based on the word of an "anonymous source", though from a trusted site, so you can make up your own mind as to the veracity of the article.

So it would appear that reshoots are underway for Suicide Squad in order to bring more fun into the film, as a response to critical and audience reactions to Batman v Superman as well as positive feedback to the Suicide Squad trailer, which the article claims actually contains every joke in the movie.
As someone who was pretty critical of Dawn of Justice, I'm feeling pretty conflicted about this. Yes, I'm happy to see that DC is trying to move away from the grimdark tone that has really weighed down both BvS and Man of Steel before it, but trying to change the whole tone of a movie once it has already been shot is a dicey proposition at best, and smacks of the studio mandated interference that resulted in DoJ having a half dozen conflicting storylines running at the same time. Also kinda confused and more than a little perturbed that they would try to sell us on Suicide Squad by misrepresenting the movie. And it apparently worked, because one of the most common refrains coming from disillusioned fans over the past week has been "Well at least Suicide Squad looks fun."
How does this make you feel, fellow Escapees? Are you more or less excited about Suicide Squad now? I'm personally lowering my expectations for it, as I don't believe a last minute tonal shift is going to do anything but muddle the movie, but it gives me hope for the future of the DCEU that we can expect more varied movies/heroes in the future.

I heard about this too.

While I support moving away from "grimdark", what do these people consider "fun"? Is this going to be some board of directors vision of "fun", or childish "fun"?

I wanted the film to have some funny moments and to be quirky, take some shots at superhero movie cliches, but I don't want them to make it some "WEEEE! Thats Harley Quinn making sex jokes, and Captain Boomerang acting like a mentally disabled person!" bullshit.

Though one thing to consider is that the latest trailer they released contains apparently all the lighthearted "fun" things in the movie. So I guess the trailer is a bit misleading?

I dunno. I'm just going to wait to see the movie. Whether its good or bad, at least I get to see more Batffleck.

EDIT:poll options are meh, my feeling is "Gonna reserve judgement"

Have added "Reserving Judgment" to poll.

Generally speaking (script) reshoots tend to weaken a movie. I wonder the extent to which the movie is being re-made.

I agree with that.

They are probably just trying to catch onto Deadpools coattails. I didn't have high expectations of SS in the first place and I'm not planning on seeing it so I don't really care

*sigh*

The more you add to a dish, the more likely you will ruin the main course. My don't movie executives learn to stop adding and adding and adding to things that were already fine but think it's okay to do so because, well, some other movie did it better. Deadpool was successful as R rated and on a low budget and now studios want to do more R rated stories for comic books. Guardians of the Galaxy had a unique trailer and was a successful scifi, action comedy, and now look at the recent Star Trek trailer. The reason for these two successes and many more was because, they had a great team working together, from start to finish, who cared about the project and what was put in and it's limitations. NOT someone out side of the team going, "add this add that", once the movie has already finished filming.

Stop pushing for too much. Just give us what the movie intended. Suicide Squad is expected to be a little dark because of one big reason. THEY ARE VILLAINS!!! David Ayer and his team may have added a bit of dark humour in their but now you are just adding red pend marks onto his already complete idea. Did Edgar Wright go through with this crap with Ant-man?

I think that adding some more humour will generally make it a better film, but I also think that re-shoots to change the tone of the film are probably a bad thing. All in all i think it will probably make it a better film but I'm not too confident so Turtles.

I'm just tired with Warner/DC. The entire body of work after Dark Knight trilogy has been reactionary to what other studios have been doing with their super hero properties as well as criticisms levied against Superman Returns, Catwoman, and Green Lantern.

Suicide Squad is just one more movie that Warner/DC has no idea what it should be and is now being reshot to distance itself in tone from BvS and be more like Deadpool or Guardians of the Galaxy.

Suicide squad is kind of garbage, both in concept and practice.
I don't agree. The Dirty Dozen with supervillains sounds like a rather fun idea for a movie. But if the trailer was litterally all the jokes they have in the movie...

This is not only this movie, EVERYONE is trying to copy Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel movies.

The new Dungeons and Dragons movie in development is said to be a be inspired by quote "Guardians of the Galaxy and Raiders of the Lost Ark"

The newest Predator movie mentions its going to be a big event film on the scail of Iron Man 3 (Why Iron Man 3 of all movies?)

And the newest Star Trek Beyond movie is going to be more like GOTG.

The same can be said to 007 Skyfall and the new Planet of the Apes movies and though I like those movies they were just followers of the Nolan Batman movies.

To be fair, the old Dungeons & Dragons movies were inspired by an over-acting twenty sided die buried in a two ton pile of shit, so I'm okay with this.

Agree with this, but also pissed off that this wasn't really what the movie was about, and that all of the "fun" was added to the trailer to make us want to see it. Say what you want about BvS:DoJ (and almost everyone has) but it was always honest about the movie it was making.

Wait what? That was like the only franchise they've managed to extend and somehow magically not ruined.

1. But I want my ideal D&D movie to be more like Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights level of tone and inspiritaion.

2. And that is exactly why I worry for new DC movies after this. I mentioned before that I hated the tone and humourous direction of the Modern Marvel movies because out of all the humor and jokes and "in your face" attitude and because of all that I can't the movies seriously.

Raimi Spiderman may had humor but it also had serious Dramtic moments that me care more about the character. I felt for Peter when his Uncle was killed, I felt for Peter when he had to leave Mary Jane to protect from his Enemies. I felt for Peter when he contemplated on Killing his Uncle's killer.

I RARELY get none of those kinds of things in the modern marvel movies.

And the fans is certainly not helping:

And again, IRON MAN 3?!

Why not Avengers 1 at least? Or Captain America Winter Soldier?

I think Deadpool is probably closer to the mark if only because it's going to for the more "adult" feel, and that the movie is doing the anti-hero thing. But I would guess that the success of the Guardians movie as a comedy/action/superhero hybrid is probably a big reason that Deadpool eventually got made in the first place, so your point is definitely valid.

Also in your OP you mentioned that this sudden change in Direction of Suicide Squad reeks of Studio Mandated Interference.

I believe BvS suffered the same fate.

Originally it was gonna be just a Man of Steel 2, then it became a reimagined Dark Knight Returns, and then it became "Justice League - The Set Up movie so he don't have to make a bunch of Phase One DC movies"
