Personally I'm a fan of having items on. I'm willing to turn certain ones off (or all of them) for my friends but occasionally even they want the items on. It's just so much fun to clobber my friends with a bat by chucking it and ricocheting it off of there skulls a few times or spam the paper fan on them or to grab a cracker launcher and watch them try to take advantage of its slow aiming and movement to get to me and try to knock it away from me in a single punch only for me to just throw it at their face sending them flying and occasionally k.o.ing them. (They never learn on that last one)

either way both gametypes have their merits so yeah. What do you think?

Smash Bros is a chaotic fighting game, mostly due to how items can suddenly turn the tide of a match.

I hate the idea of 'no items final destination', because it essentially removes everything that makes Smash Bros different from other fighting games.

Without the items and stages, you're just left with half a game, if you want spr srs fights, play Marvel vs Capcom or Street Fighter, keep your tourney attitude outta mah Smash Bros.

NO ITEMS FOX ONLY FINAL DEST- erhm I mean play the game the way you want to. Sometimes Items can be annoying though. Like in Playstation All Stars, the friggin Spear of Destiny spawns 5 times a damn minute

Never turned it off and never plan to.

It's just the norm to me now, without items it feels so empty... not to mention a lot of the items are what makes rounds so hilarious. [small][small][small][small]I still hate that Labrador though...[/small][/small][/small][/small]

Items on all the way. The only thing we'd change was to turn off healing items and maybe smash balls depending on our mood.

Items on, selectively. Sometimes you want a sword fight, so leave on the striking weapons, sometimes you want it to rain bombs, so only use explosives. Sometimes you want no items, sometimes you want all items. And sometimes you just don't want to be trolled by a goddam fan.

Items on all the time. They're what makes the games so unpredictable and fun. It's great if you're struggling and then suddenly you get the hammer or smash ball and start kicking ass and taking names.Leads to much hilarity/frustration

Items off is the one concession my friends and I make to super srs play. We also arrived at it naturally after we realised that all we were using the ones that aren't instant win buttons for was throwing.

I usually go Smash Ball only when it comes to items.

For Melee, items off. That game is such a good fighting game, having items on a getting killed cheaply by the ray gun is really boring.

Brawl is fun with items though, because that game doesn't feel like a fighting game that Melee does, it's "floaty" as fuck and imbalanced.

Items on. Just so I can use the fan to pretty much trap my friends, all while yelling FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANSERVIIIIIIIIIIIICE in the voice of Pegasus from Yu-Gi-Oh.

I love doing this. There's so many "extra" game modes that you can do and it's huge amounts of fun just to mess around and balance your own game modes.
Also love playing with all the items on, except for the fan. Fuck that thing. My friends love playing the No Items Final Destination way so that it's "all about skill". Except when I play Smash, I usually don't play to win, I play to have fun.

I always turn items off if it is part of a character's move, such as the Screw Attack item, which is really just Samus's UP-B. Also if certain characters receive more benefit from it than others (again, the Screw Attack is better with Kirby, who has five jumps, than anyone who has two jumps) then I turn them off. I prefer all other items on, though, as it really just makes the game more fun to play, and I don't really play competitively where items can help balance things if there is a minor skill difference between players (though it definitely can't help a bad player beat a good one). I can see why some players don't like them, but for me, it just takes away too much of the fun and uniqueness of the game.

I mostly play with items off. Not because of srs play, just practice battling with my main and alts. I'll turn an item on (such as Pokeball, Bob-omb, Crate, Party Ball, sometimes Assist Trophy) but put the rate at "Low" from time to time. Personally, I am not a fan of the Smash Ball, Star and Hammer, because people crutch on those items way too often. Kinda like WarioWare stage in SSBB where after the mini-game you pray you get the Star reward or the Mushroom reward.

On...but the only item you can have on is Pokeballs, and the only map you can play on is Pokémon Stadium. :p

I don't take Smash Bros. seriously so I leave them on although I do turn certain ones off because they irritate me like the Super Scope.

Only play Melee here and it depends what we feel like playing. We do everything just for the sake of change and I'm sure we would do that in Brawl to if it wasn't so terrible. However, when we want to compare skills we usually turn of the items.
