oh how wrong you are, if you are arguing over the word fuck or the word bullshit, then using swears IS necessary and part of the argument and can be very intelligent. so there goes your whole argument out the windowBaby Tea said:Then the swear words are unnecessary.cleverlymadeup said:actually that's is very wrong, you can swear and be intelligent and have a well constructed argument that contains swear words.Baby Tea said:Swearing is the same. It portrays an inability to articulate yourself properly. Now, before the quotes pour in saying 'I can articulate myself just fine and I swear!', then allow me to point out the qualifier word 'portrays'. I know there are plenty of articulate people who swear plenty, but it's hard to take them as serious, intelligent people when their vocabulary seems to be restricted to 4 letter words.
If you have a great argument, then there is no need for swearing. So why do it at all? For 'effect'? Then you're insecure about how well-put together your argument is, otherwise you know it can stand by itself. It's not needed. I have never heard a good argument or point that was made better with swearing, but heard plenty that were made silly or stupid because of swearing.

however you are missing the point of what i'm saying, it's the context you use the words in, sure you don't need to swear but using a swear word doesn't take away from your argument in the least. it really matters on the context of the word being used. also the fact that you can use fancy pants words doesn't make you smart, you can still sound like an asshole.Baby Tea said:Wait wait wait....cleverlymadeup said:oh how wrong you are, if you are arguing over the word fuck or the word bullshit, then using swears IS necessary and part of the argument and can be very intelligent. so there goes your whole argument out the windowBaby Tea said:Then the swear words are unnecessary.

Are you saying my argument is 'out the window' because it only works when you are specifically talking about the swear words? That's ridiculous. Especially when I still don't have to swear in order to talk about swear words. There is a whole thread dedicated to it here, and not once have I sworn. Why? Because I'm getting my point across without actually saying them. So, again, they aren't needed.
Like I said from the beginning: Unnecessary swearing makes you look like an idiot. Your points in an argument might all be valid, but it's hard to take someone seriously when they are swearing needlessly. So, yes, it does in fact take away form your argument. I've been in many a debate, and I've never seen someone's point become any more valid for using profanity, but I have seen plenty of people lose credibility because of over-used profanity. It's completely pointless and unnecessary.cleverlymadeup said:however you are missing the point of what i'm saying, it's the context you use the words in, sure you don't need to swear but using a swear word doesn't take away from your argument in the least.
No, you didn't. Especially since we are currently living your example (Talking about swearing) and not once have I swore. You haven't convinced me of anything. You've said the same thing every time you quote me, and haven't really presented anything that shows me that sometimes swearing is worth it's use.my example does take away from your claim that using swear words detracts from your argument. you were making a blanket statement and i easily poked a hole in it.
