It's a pointless panic. If they hadn't started their bullshit fearmongering, people wouldn't have even noticed the different variety of flu.
I, nor anyone else I know has had it, but from what I gather, it's absolutely nothing to worry about.

The swine flu was never anything more than a fear tactic by the government. Fear mongering really says it.
Sorry that you got the swine flu though, if you're not already fine as of now, then get better soon.

Thanks :)
TBH, it doesn't seem to be much. The fever last night had me hallucinating but apart from that it's quite tame.

there have been many "swine flu's" over human history - just as there has been avian flu's and what not. typically persons of european ancestory have existing antibodies for swine flu's, and other barnyard animal illnesses as europeans have a history of sharing living quarters with their stock.

conversley, persons who have ancestory that comes from areas where climates negate the need to share living space, cultures forbid sharing living space, or the animal in question is not part of the agricultural history may not have these preexisting antibodies.

this is not to say all europeans have these preexisting antibodies and will be fine, nor to say non europeans will all suffer horribly because of a lack of any preexisting antibodies. individual health/constitutions as well as age, diet, etc come into play.

also, the WHO (world health organization) will declare a virus a pandemic not only for prevention and treatment. By declaring a pandemic allows the WHO more resources for tracking migratory and spread rates of a virus. This allows them to better understand all viruses and what they can expect for transmission/spreading for other viruses in the future.

Well, I guess it had to happen sooner of later. I've developed swine flu, and I have to say that I'm on the 2nd day of infection and it's more of a nuisance than anything else. It does get me five free days off work, but as you can guess: it hit me just at the start of my three days off. Typical.

The thing is though, while Swine Flu can be a killer, real flu has always been a killer; and having had both, Swine flu is boring. There's no real umph to it. It's just mild fever, dizziness and lack of energy. I can get that after playing Team Fortress 2 for a bit.

We've been told that H1N1 is already a pandemic, but I can't see it myself. Of the people I know (a good 100 or so), I'm the first one to get it. But is this due to the Government's action or was H1N1 just a kid's disease that they did a Madagascar [http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll100/CaptainFailcon/SHUTDOWNEVERYTHING.jpg] on?
I personally think the whole panic is all rather pointless though i don`t doubt things would have been worse were it not for goverment intervention, exactly how bad nobody will ever really be able to guess.
Also that has got to be one of the greatest pieces of art i`ve ever seen, one problem though Horatio never ever takes off his glasses he doesn`t need other pairs as he is just too damn cool.

1) Another great cash crop from the USA.
2) My friend had it - said it was just boring.
3) I am 85% sure that it was government engineered.

Hate me, because I am honest.

I've now known about ten people to get swine flu and was trapped in a house with two swine flu sickies for a week (strangely eough I got tonsilitis. Go figure) and everyone was fine. No one died, no one was ill for more then seven days. We survived.

I can't help but think though, for the UK at least, it came at a conveniant time. Anyone heard anything about the expenses of the MPs recently, on any mass media transmission? No, it was all about Swine Flu. Now it's all about America hating the NHS, and all that talk of money being used badly is being crowded out.

Anyone else for a conspiricy theory?

Second, I don't believe any of that shit for a second. The flu has been around forever and it hasn't mutated into some sort of killer epidemic.
The 1919 worldwide pandemic flu would like a word with you. Seriously, google that shit. BODIES IN SHIPPING CRATES BECAUSE THERE ARE NO COFFINS LEFT.

You see, THIS is the part people don't seem to realize. How many deaths have been caused by swine flu so far, compared to deaths from other ordinary strains? Roughly the same, I should think... and most of these deaths will likely have been people who are already very vulnerable to disease, such as the elderly.

The reason that THIS flu spreads so fast is likely due to the fact that there wasn't a vaccine out for it, so therefore more people got it and spread it. It's not so much a pandemic as the natural course of events.

Some light reading: [http://www.crikey.com.au/2009/05/25/take-a-deep-breath-swine-flus-not-that-bad/] I found this looking for information on Wikipedia.

Swine Flu can vary in seriousness, some people get it mild and some people get it very very bad.

Swine flu does not guarantee death or discomfort. User experience may vary =)
As can be said for every other illness in existence. I see your point, I just don't think its the best of points
