Just a short thread/question. Based on what you know, do you think that swine flu is really something to be worried about? I've heard from a couple of people that it isn't very different that the better-known flu. I've had swine flu, and while it wasn't "fun" it wasn't really all that bad. I just think it propaganda, and is meant to scare people. I think it's just a scam like global-warming, and is meant to be profited from.

So what do you, the escapists, have to say about it?

No. It is weaker than the flu, and I think the world blew it way out of proportion. The only problem I see is young children and old people getting it and getting really sick, but since I don't know many of either, I don't care.

I'm not sure about this, but, I believe that the government funds the flu shot distribution. And that doctor practices don't give excessive amounts of money to the government based on their flu-shot quota.

Of coarse not. Hypochondriacs, the gullible, and idiots just made it worse than it should have been...

I dont think the Gov. had anything to do with it, but the media like always made it out to be the next black death.

No. I don't think the government had anything to do with it, but they're definetely making it out to be much worse than it actually is.

It won't kill all of us as the Government claims. They say they're not scaremongering but when they tell us 600,000 people in Britian will be dead by last month, you have to think they are and also very wrong.

Remember, we were all gonna die from Bird Flu.

I don't really think it was so much the government so much as it was the Al Gore type.

I just put that in there to take either option to either extreme (however they are trying to take our guns).

where's the option where you don't buy into the all the media hype and just not give a shit?

My little bro actually caught it and it's pretty much just the same thing as plain old flu. He's already nearly gotten over it.

It is pandemic. That's something to worry about if it becomes more potent.

I don't really care. If I die from Swine Flu, I'll die from Swine Flu. Worrying about it isn't going to do anything. I already work to make sure I don't get sick, so I don't have to miss training. Why should I care whether it's a real threat or not?

Because we are so on the prowl for Swine Flu, people who have the regular common flu are going to get mis-diagnosed, seeing as Swine and Regular have the same symptoms, allowing the media to fudge the numbers on the infected, that way they can increase fear-mongering. nice.

It only kills those who have an underlying health condition, like aids, cerebal palsy, women who have just given birth. It kills just as much as the regular flu, this one is just slightly worse.

I say wut... cause your choices are pretty damn poor.

The swine flu exists, it is just a disease and as flu go it isn't even all that bad. The problem is it was a slow news week or something.... guess Michael Jackson can't die every day like they so wish. This means the media had to report on something. Given that the US media is all about ratings and nothing boosts ratings like 'hear it first on our chennal' driven fear it was enviable they would jump on swine flu like they did bird flu and whatever ailment comes out each year.

I don't think there is a conspiracy behind this, let alone a government one (and would you want them in charge of your conspiracies?) It is just a sad fact of today's existence: TV news hype up EVERYTHING they think will cause even a single extra viewer. Sensationalism, sensationalism, sensationalism!

It sells.

My view: wake me up when it kills, say, .5% of the world population. Given that this disease has such a dismal kill rate it couldn't even achieve that if we all got infected so I think I will sleep easy.

The only good that came out of it was a few school closings, and the worst that came out of it was like 20 deaths. A life (or 20) isn't to be taken lightly, but they made up such a huge deal about a global pandemic that would kill us all, it's a bit silly to see people panic over something that can be cured by two days in bed and a bowl of chicken soup.

I'm so tempted to go into a 'government making loads of hype so they can give everyone injections to control us all, instead of the vaccine they say they're giving us' rant, but common sense will prevail and keep me from doing so.

It's really been blown out of proportion by the media, because exciting things like pandemics sell lots of papers.

I'm not sure of the exact figures - but haven't far fewer people died of it that would in a normal flu season? Ok, so we're not actually quite into flu season yet (right?) but considering the predictions made, it really has been a huge (and expensive, for the government and therefore us) overreaction.
