I don't care, the teachers at my school rarely teach me anything.

Seriously, I get better educated by reading news on here.

[sub]And with this post I say to you, good night! It's about 2:30 AM here[/sub]
Pretty much this. Apart from the 2:30 AM bit.

True. This is the only thing that pops up in my mind after I've decided to myself that teachers are important and need more money and benefits/whatever.

Nice editing skills, you should be proud.

Poll: Teachers going on strike, your thoughts?

Why am I on holiday the only time they're on strike? Barring that, why can the underground and post office in England strike so much?

Nothing wrong with that teachers are grossely underpaid when you consider what they have to put up with every day one of my teachers had a nervous breakdown half way through my last year.

I don't think every teacher in the school can strike at once anyway I think they have to have enough teachers still on staff to teach at any one time, for the same reason all public transport cant go on strike at once it counts as a terrorist action or something like that they are technically holding the country/state for ransom or something to that affect if they do.

On reflection, calling them ungrateful bastards was incredibly childish >_>

It's just the thought that thousands of students are getting screwed over because of them. They already get paid tons, have great benefits, and loads of time off.
I can see the benefits and maybe time off cos of Summer... but I'm in my 4th year for my Bachelors in Education- and from my internships.... theres hardly good money in a lot of teaching jobs.

TC doesn't know what he's talking about, teachers don't get paid a whole lot in Ontario. I was caught up in the infamous York University strike which was from november (Day before Gears of war 2 came out) till feburary. Ya it sucked for the students but the school made up for it in so many different ways that nobody besides international students working with a visa could complain.

Basically the main issue with the strike was for TA's who were also taking classes and many of them said that they have to pay tuition and that ate up most of their salary leaving them with very little money afterwards

Compare our salaries teacher's salaries to the people in Iran, and then compare how well the students in Iran do compared to the US
Hint: Iran is like double us in test scores average.

But dealing with the kids would be horrible in the US, in Iran it would be pretty good.
Also I have a math teacher who used to be high up in banking industry, and I had a teacher when was in school to become a doctor but half-way through decided to be a teacher. So my teachers aren't lazy thankfully.

The level of payment you guys are quoting seems way out. 20 or so years ago maybe, but a school teacher getting paid 30,000USD anually today? Maybe for a first year graduate.. Although striking is a problem.. Posties are striking in Victoria, Aus atm, so the majority of mail isn't getting through. If you have a hospital worker strike, then people who have nothing to do with the problem suffer. So I dislike strikes from that side. And they're teachers, they should be smart enough to figure out a way of doing things which doesn't punish students.

Educators are underpaid, especially fine arts ones. As someone who wants to be a band director, this is relevant to my interests. They should be able to.
This.

In schools in general, and higher ed in particular, actually finding a course in the arts is pretty difficult. Linguistics, Music, Literature are all subjects that aren't ranked on the national list, only English, Maths and Science are counted. Hence underpaid (and rare) teachers in the subjects I actually like.

I still don't think they should strike, but in the case of arts teachers, I'd agree with it from a personal p.o.v..

I don't see anything wrong with it.
Over here in California teachers have a difficult time keeping their jobs with all the budget cuts though so I don't see why any teacher would risk striking here.

Teachers don't get paid enough in the United States. Especially from government funded schools. Let them strike. Besides, we students love nothing more than a strike!
