Sure, why not? shooters need to be more gender-friendly anyway, in case a girl does want to play a shooter because i have ran into a girl online in COD and i'm not to sure if an all-male cast list in shooters like COD and TF2 because their might be girls who want to play TF2 or COD. also, i've heard rumors about pyro being a girl, but i personally think pyro is a male cyborg created by the engineer (pyro has the engineer's missing glove and wears it like a hat ).

Y'know, I haven't really thought about it before. I don't know, I would mind it. They would actually look nice if it was like that picture OP posted.

You don't event know the gender of the Pyro, unless you've seen the unofficial Meet the pyro video :)

There is no official "Meet The Pyro" out yet. That one you're referencing I've seen too, and while it's very well done, it's not an official "Meet The Pyro" video from Valve.

Valve have been hinting that the Pyro is a male sometimes, and a female at other times. We may never know, even after the official video is released.

Doesn't really make sense to do in team fortress, an already completed game. There's nothing wrong with more playable females (Valve's next major multiplayer title, Dota 2 for example has plenty of playable females.), but TF2's characters were designed with their silhouettes in mind to help discern character classes at a distance.

Plus, the "meet the" videos, in-game dialogue, and the online fandom has gone to GREAT lengths to characterize the playable classes' unique (though a little one-dimensional) and humorous personalities. Changing the existing characters' genders, or adding new characters which share the same class, plus new voice-overs seems like an unnecessary amount of work for this already released game.

In retrospect, maybe they could have made a couple of the existing classes female to begin with, and no personality would be lost, and diversity would be gained, but this seems like something to concern the development team on a future game, not TF2.
All this is a pretty good point, too. Especially for why they may not change it at this late a stage, with the idea about the very recognisable silhouettes.

Team Fortress 2 characters are based on stereotypes and very discernible characteristics. Historically there are very few discernible stereotypes among women.

I really couldn't care less.

I just hope that people don't complain about how the girls look slutty and blah blah blah etc.
I'm pretty much completely indifferent to it. I like the game, the skins that the players are wearing doesn't change the game remotely for me.

I believe plenty of people have already implemented special skins as mods that include full female voice clips but a little more distinction between players by way of having a female and male version of each class wouldn't be such a terrible idea. They would have to have the same level of flourish and colour the current cast of male characters have, rather than be lazy 'female' versions of the current male cast to really get me onboard. Like the Female Spy speaks like she's from an English War film to go along side the Spy's French accent perhaps. Something like: "No-one can stand up to our boys in blue. The reddies have met their match, what?"

Perhaps have the Female Engineer German and always complains about the shoddy workmanship of the Male Engineer compared to her own. Like: "Look at zis! I could sneeze on this contraction and it vould fall apart."

And, I dunno...Maybe a maybe a Liverpudlian Sniper? She could probably turn the air as blue - if not bluer - as the Male one can.

I just think that a direct copy misses out on an opportunity to add more personalities to the TF2 universe.

Simple answer is the silhouette, clothing and hit-box of each character. The clothing and silhouettes of each character had a lot of work put into them to assist gameplay, around 9 different characters is enough for a player to have to identify.

Frankly, because only males would go out into the middle of a desert, and fight people mainly for the sake of fighting them.

I think it's because both teams are a sort of "boys only club".
It looks more like a bunch of man-children with weapons, which makes it easier to not take seriously, and imo adds a more comedic, laid-back feel.

I will first please ask you to learn the correct use of the apostrophe.

Now, moving on. No, it's not necessary. There's no real reason to have them. If someone could give me an ACTUALLY beneficial reason to include them, then by all means, I'd be fine with it, but until then, no. They're not needed.
This. I've discussed it with a friend of mine, and she is of the opinion that the male TF2 characters are all of the correct physique necessary to handle their respective equipment. If there were females in TF2, they would be A) realistically proportioned to handle their equipment. This would make them all butch except for Scout, Spy and maybe Sniper. This would upset all the people who want awesome attractive (possibly slutty) characters. Or B: All given more "feminine" physiques like most of the characters in the OP's picture, it would look stupid, them lugging around huge flamethrowers and rocket launchers and would annoy people like my friend.

It works on no level.

The game is fun isn't that really the point? I mean I wouldn't mind if they did but it seems like a waste of time.

Personally, i thought the game was set in the 50's hence, there being next to no girls in combat.

Thenagain, Pyro is on the middle of the fence, he's/she's a bit ambiguous, a purse inside his locker, 2 different camera taunts...the list could go on.
