Pretty even split 30 to 33 (In favor of Fallout), I like that.
It's hard to pick, but I prefer Fallout, you don't see post-apocalypse settings as much as fantasy settings in RPGs which makes me enjoy Fallout just a tiny bit more since it's one of the rare RPGs that use a post-apocalypse setting.

Fallout 3/New Vegas are at the very least mechanically sound. (Not saying that aren't some serious gamebreakers, especially in 3)
I don't recall any gamebreakers in Fallout 3. What do you mean?

OT: Fallout, I don't like the combat in TES. The first person perspective is not well suited to melee combat IMO. Yeah you can switch to third person but the feel is still the same.
Pretty much every DLC weapon and armor. The Stealth Suit makes the whole stealth boy mechanic of the game pointless, with a silenced weapon you can pretty much sneak attack crit anything in the game. Winterized Power Armor was indestructible (Never decayed) and absorbed a ton of damage, making pretty much every other armor in the game redundant. Gauss Rifle did a ton of damage, and only costed 1 MF Cell per shot.

That was just from Operation Anchorage alone, even some of the Vanilla unique weapons break the game. (Terrible Shotgun can do more damage than a Mini Nuke on a crit)
I see. I was thinking purely in terms of Vanilla. Yeah, some of the DLC gear was overpowered. The Metal Blaster sneak attack could kill just about anything. And I guess you saw this video:

The elder scrolls introduced me to fantasy roleplaying. It remains my favorite series to this day :D

This is a very hard question for me, and I would have to say Fallout simply because the gameplay has been fine tuned a bit since Oblivion but Skyrim should blow me away.

Actually heard of the Terrible Shotgun damage ratio on the Fallout wiki, but yeah, that was what I was pretty much getting at.

And yeah, the Metal Blaster is crazy. It's so surprising how few ingots it takes to get it compared to rather less OP in comparison items you get afterwards.

41 votes both ways! I think that's a mark of quality.

I swung towards TES, because swords hold ever so slightly more appeal to me than guns. Love 'em both, though.

Fallout because it's a little more unique than your typical RPG. The medieval fantasy scene has been done to death.

Kinda funny that with all the QA testers on Fallout 3 [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_developers#Quality_Assurance] the game balance was so much worse than Fallout: New Vegas (which had only three, which goes a long way to explain all of the many, many bugs in that game).

Fallout. I reached a point a few years back where my attitude toward most fantasy-themed games is "seen one, seen 'em all"... and the only thing that can bring me back to one is a combination of brilliant narrative and a D20 system with "all the fixins" as it were (so, AD&D 2 or 3. All of it).
I think I hit that point after I pumped a bit better than two hours into Oblivion... and just couldn't get into it. There was no direction, and nothing engaging to find, as far as I could tell... and good god was the combat boring... I knew a lot of people who absolutely loved the game, thought I was crazy when I gave up on it, but I've tried it a few times since, just to be sure... and I'm sure.
Morrowind fared a bit better. I think I lost interest after 8+ hours of play, there. I just couldn't stand the (lack of a) combat system. The rest of it was... acceptable.

Fallout 3 was a fun themepark game in which you could effectively manufacture difficulty and q necessity for combat tactics. The Fallout name was a stretch, but still, a fun game.
New Vegas should have gotten the "3", in my opinion. Fallout Themepark: District of Colombia is right there next to Fallout Tactics: BOS (or Fallout Chicago) in my book.

Going back a bit... call me crazy, but I also always preferred Fallout 1 and 2 to Daggerfall.

The Elder scrolls, but I do love Fallout too.
I just prefer fantasy games, even though I've played plenty of them.

Actually, pretty sure Bethesda did most of the QA for New Vegas, those three in the credits were the only Obsidian ones. (Could be wrong though)

Don't think weapon balance falls under QA though. Do have to say, as far as tying in weapons and armor from DLC, they did a pretty decent job in New Vegas. More through the services you go in the DLC's kind of broke things. (The coupon you got every three days if you did enough gambling in Dead Money guaranteed you always had a ton of stimpaks and weapon repair kits, and by extension, infinite money)

Every Fallout game has it's game breakers to some extent though, just think it's a bit more obvious in Fallout 3.

There, I shortened your post for you.
It's not like I'm the biggest fan of the new games (It is an avatar of the old Power Armor after all), just prefer em over Oblivion is all.

I really like this comment

OT: Both settings are cool in their own way, but I've always liked fantasy more than sci-fi as a concept. TES all the way.

Not an equal comparison but I prefer fallout. I couldn't "get into" Oblivion while fallout 3 has easily 270+ hours in it.

Mainly TES, because the Morrowind played a massive role in my childhood. It pretty much made me the gamer (dare I say MAN?) I am today and remains one of my favorite games of all time. I just can't ignore that, no matter how good Fallout 3 was.

Played both Fallout 3 and NV, only played Oblivion, and loved all of them to bits, but I prefer The Elder Scrolls.

In Oblivion, I never once got lost in a dungeon, not a single time. In both Fallout games, I spent about a third of my time looking for the exit to a vault or some godforsaken ramshackle apartment building.

The characters, too, were much more memorable in TES, but that's probably due to the fact that colour is allowed in a TES game, as opposed to Fallout's "old and mucky" look of browns and greys.

Also, I prefer fantasy settings. Guns are overused in games, in my opinion; it gets kinda point-and-clicky after a while. TES, on the other hand, gives you a focus on melee, the option of archery, and some pretty kickass magical abilities. I still have a special place in my heart for the Fat Man, though :p.

If I had to choose, then Fallout would be my choice every time. I just prefer sci-fi to fantasy. But that said, I don't mind a little swordy action now and then.

They're not really comparable series, Fallout 3 was made by Bethesda and the first two weren't, so really you're comparing two games to five (or given the amount of people who have played Fallout 3, in a lot of cases, one game to five, that one game almost being a rebranded Elder Scrolls game).
