I always liked the idea of food/water needs, but kept primarily a perk with the middle ground gap between no perk and actual punishment rather wide. For example, without the essentials for extended periods, you get weak and perhaps even eventually pass out (death in other planes, but just some sort of failsafe in civilised parts of the game like getting mugged and dumped in an inn). However, if you keep your stomach and bladder full, you get HP/MP regen or the like.

Doesn't matter. Either way mods will come out that'll make it much better and less annoying. Or maybe more annoying, depending on your views.

I'd say a mode where you get slight debuffs if you don't eat/drink/rest enough might be interesting. If it's an instant kill thing, that's not cool, but I shouldn't be able to go through the entire game not eating or sleeping for more than an hour a week.

Only if hardcore mode actually works properly.

In FO:NV, it was just a bunch of numbers I had to keep down, it was more of an annoyance. I'd like the chance to actually sit down for a meal in an inn or cook my meals over a campfire, actually see my character take water from a river in a skin and actually see them drink from it.
Defiantly would go for a system like this. I would occasional role-play stuff like this in Oblivion but it felt kind of weak. It would also give the misc items, like cups and bowls, more use in world and in immersion, as opposed to being just selling them or using them for decoration. It would also make exploration more fun, having to be aware of how much food and water you were carrying and you could plan your trips into them accordingly. It would probably best to release it as DLC which would allow them to get the main game to its peak before adding in new systems.

Keep in mind people that hardcore mode was completely optional. If you didn't like it, you never had to play it. Don't take it away from the rest of us who liked the realism, especially if it won't affect you in the long run.

One thing I would add to hardcore mode is the use of animations and such. I remember in Fallout 3, they had planned to make animations for applying chems and stimpaks, but it never came to fruition. I would like it kind of akin to a WoW style of eating, where you can only eat outside of combat. The weight of the food determines how long the animation would last. Maybe it wouldn't be the same for drinking since alcohols kind of boost and stunt your stats for combat. I can imagine my character taking a swig from his wineskin right before charging into a pack of goblins. There's a lot of appeal when it comes to making this hardcore style of RPG.

Sure, I think that it would be pretty cool.

I don't think that it should be exactly like the one in Fallout: New Vegas, but I think that it should be similar.

I think it was Morrowind that had a reality mod that added tons of new things like woodcutting, fishing, camp making, ect.

though its an old game, and though its a mod, thats about as good as a hardcore mode could be, I mean, you even had to take BATHS or you would get a hit to your personality.

OT: I wouldnt be against the idea of a hardcore mode in Skyrim, but dear fucking god, make it more worth while instead of "lol, u get 100 GAMER SCORE/PLATINUM TROPHY!".

I would go so far as to suggest that in Hardcore mode, weapons can kill in one hit if used properly [example: hitting at someones head with an axe would kill them if you hit it solidly enough, while shooting someone with an arrow in the head/heart would also be a one hit kill, it wold apply not only to NPC's, but also the player. This would increase the shield playability and actually make combat more dangerous. For Magic users I cant really think of anything.....]
For magic you could mabye have a risk of magic back firing if its spell you can only just cast and haven't used that much?

If it was properly hardcore, then sure.

I think maybe adding it in differently. Instead of something that simply requires you to dig through your inventory and "eat" and "drink" every X number of hours, perhaps something like a "morale" stat. Going extended periods of time ignoring it just imparts some minor, non-crippling penalty. Get fixed up by actually SITTING DOWN in a Tavern or what have you to eat, drink, play music or listen to it (this would also require music played by NPC's to be at least somewhat worth listening to). High morale offers some kind of a small, non-critical buff. This would reward players for actually role-playing.

There are very few games that would lend themselves well to players forgetting questing, grinding, loot hunting, and all the other stuff that just advance the game or character in favor of letting you just immerse yourself in the world and act more like a real person in the game. I really think Bethesda could pull it off well if they tried it.

NO! It would take away part of the Elder Scrolls appeal...ya know.
But it... was optional. So you could still play the game the 'classic' way. So why would that matter?

Yes, but obviously altered to be more TES friendly.
Heres a few ideas:

Disabled fast travvle.
No compass.
No Crosshair.
An ingame minute is 6seconds in stead of 1
Slightly quicker weapon degrading.
Slower Health/Fatigue Regen. Magicka nolonger regens on its own, must sleep or use potions.
Magic has slightly higher cost. With a chance to fail.
Gold/good loot/potions are harder to find.
Potions act instantly but are very rare, food and ingredents takes ingame 2 hours before you feel the effects.
Trainers cost more.
Gold has mass. =P

You may notice most of my ideas would make the game more like Morrowind.

I hated it on FO:NV.
Instead of making it immersive and more realistic, it just added a lot of annoyance.
