Why was I thinking metal music when I saw metal on your list? I'm so ashamed.

Anyway, I'll go with electricity, it's dangerous when you have too much of or no control over just like the 4 main elements. Yeah I know, thats a lame reason but meh!

I thought the 5 elements were Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, with the 5th bieng beyond our every day understanding or experience.

I'm very disappointed to see that "Surprise" is not an option.
:D

According to the film, it's love, but I think electricity should be in there. It's pretty crucial.

According to Sophocles, the fifth element is called "quintessence." All five are part of the "ether." Of course, that's if you want to believe Sophocles...

Quintessence.
It's what the Ancient Greeks thought the fifth element to be, the stuff of what the heavens were made of.
The closest thing on the poll to that was "Space", so I selected that.

Edit: Damnit, Ninja'd!

Edit 2: Quintessence /would/ actually be the fifth element; the concept of the four elements was invented by the Greek astronomers.

Since Aristotle's day we've removed 4 elements and added 117. It logically follows that the 5th element was in fact the first element discovered under the modern system.

Well according to Oblivion, that Dwemer necromancer lady kept on ranting on about the 5th element being "flesh", sooo, I'll go with that.

I believe it is Love.

And then combined, they form CAPTAIN PLANET~!

But seriously.. elements? Let's get started on alchemy while we're still at it.
I meant the most basic elements. And those are water, fire, earth and air.
What do you mean the most basic elements? The term "basic element" is meaningless.

T'would be metal I think... If the pentagram of elements is to be believed.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Metal originates from Iron, a mineral found in the... you get it, Earth.
The same way fire originates from the combustion of oxygen in the air, and oxygen is an element found where? Water... So to say metal comes from dirt the same reasoning can be said that fire comes from water. Yes they have similar elemental origins but that doesn't make them the same.

Anyway ever heard of a nonferrous metal? Try googling it.

Boron.

This man is correct, and everything everyone else said is wrong and a waste of time.
Element is a scientific term, and nature is a term used to discuss physical reality.
Fire is a chemical reaction, not an element.
Water is a molecule, composed of two atoms of elements.
Wind is the flow of the gaseous elements and molecules in our atmosphere.
Earth is various materials in the soil in which plants may grow.

This whole concept in games comes from a scientifically illeterate understanding of the world, from ages when superstition and rampant quackery passed as knowledge.
Saying these are four elements is as wrong as saying that the moon is made of cheese or that the sky is a great big blanket draped over the (flat) earth.
