I don't associate the 5th of November with V for Vendetta, I'm afraid. No, for me it's linked to acts of political terrorism, and going 'ooo!' when people start setting off fireworks.

Fireworks are fun!
Same here. V for Vendetta is a good movie but I'm not going to forget what i'm supposed to remember.

I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...♪

Bombfire night, is it? I used to live in Britain, may I get a refresher?
It's "gunpowder, treason and plot",
Yes nothing quite like burning an effigy ofa three-hundred year-old terrorist

Went to a friend's place, watched V for Vendetta and had a mini fireworks display and a bonfire. T'was fun.

I don't really see Bonfire night as linked with V for Vendetta though, but V for Vendetta as having ties to the 5th.

V is fucking awesome.
Guy Fawkes is fucking not.

They cancel out.

Plus, I almost suffocated on my own mucus, so it wasn't a very good day to begin with.
lol same.

I was shocked with how few people actually got what I was doing wearing a mask. As it was a paper cutout on cardboard made the day before, it was pleasant to have the smell of frosted flakes all day.

Well, it is pretty much a UK only day, though I think a very small few countries aside from us Brits also celebrate it (mainly places like Canada that had large numbers of British settlers who brought the celebration with them years ago).

Remember, remember, the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot...
well someone in chicago remembered.

I'm pretty sure that the Gunpowder Plot was mostly to make parliament accept Catholicism more. Pretty much if we made a day venerating the WBC...

I couldn't care less about this bit of history or the awful movie that was "v for vendetta". Though I never read the graphic novel, that might interest me more.

I went to my grandmother's house because she has a massive garden for a bonfire with all the extended family and bonfire cooking etc. and then fireworks which went off prematurely. Fun times - it's funny to see how foreign people really don't see the significance of it to us Brits.

Oh, and we burnt an awesome effigy that I had tied to a cross I made from some spare fire wood.

You know there's more to 5th Nov than V for Vendetta.

I wont be doing anything because my dog inevitably goes mental at fireworks so I have to stay here with him.

We don't actually dress up as Guy Fawkes, thats a V for Vendetta thing. We actually burn effigys of Guy Fawkes on the bonfire, it's clearly different.

By blowing it up. Yeah, that was a great idea. The next time I want to get my point across I'll make sure to blow up my governments headquarter. In fact, that might be the only way to get my point across since my country is run by morons.

OT: I completely forgot about the 5th of November.

Nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing. Nothing nothing. Nothing, nothing; nothing nothing nothing. Nothing: nothing, nothing, nothing nothing.

(P.S. Is the train of thought really so ignorant as "we'll celebrate a movie about anarchy, self rule of the individual by the individual, by watching the same movie and dressign the same way as the cool kids!"? Fuck.)

P.P.S. Nothing.

I find it appalling that you have two options in the poll related to the V for Vendetta Movie, and none to the book. I mean, the movie was great. In fact, it was pretty brilliant. And yet, it pales in comparison to the graphical novel.

FYI: I re-read the book.

Wow, no offence to the guy who started this thread, but to me, a British person, that's like setting up a poll to ask what people are doing on the next 4th of July and listing their options as:

Fighting Aliens
Watching Aliens kill us all
Dressing up like Will Smith
and
Smoking Cigars with Jeff Goldblum

November 5th and V for Vendetta don't actually have much to do with each other, it's a very British holiday based around the assassination attempt of King James, led by Robert Catesby (whose gunpower specialist was a chap named Guy Fawkes). So yes, once a year we celebrate religious terrorism by setting fire to things. Good times.

Or rather appalling that there's none related to the actual fucking holiday! Seriously no fireworks or bonfires or toffee apples mentioned at all.

Win.

To be fair though, that would make the day a lot more exciting.
