have you watched the video if no go watch it if yes are you going to join the revolution.
revotlions rules
1: avoid buying games at gamestop
2: support smaller or independent game shops
3: buy more independent games first hand/ if you are going to buy a independent game try asking if the company(even wlamart) sells it.
reasons for the revolution:
1. it helps our industry
2. gamestop is a monopoly and needs to be taken down a notch
3. it could increase the chanses of more original and fresh games coming out
edit: there are some misunderstanding that people have
1. this is NOT A BOYCOTT this is not trying to crush gamestop and crush it into the ground I am saying that should let a healthy competition grow between it and other game shops so that gamestop and it's used games don't damage the industry. I am just trying to get gamestop to see that we want to see the game industry grow as well as get good deals (sure they wont be as good as before but if it means more creativity in games I am willing to take that down side).
2. OK I will accept that game stop hasn't reached monopoly standards but it is getting pretty close to it from my knowledge.
3. I understand if you buy a used game once in a while like it's old and you can't find a new version or you don't have the money that's reasonable but instead of making gamestop think wow I get more then 60% of my profit from used games lets continuous selling them they think wow that other game shop is starting to grow quite big lets try and come up with good deals to get costumers to come back to us.
4. I don't hate gamestop or used games in fact without them I wouldn't have been able to get interested in games but I see that they are damaging the gaming industry and I want to continue seeing the game industry develop so I don't want it to get damaged.
5.the rules above are a very big generalization if you want the full rules watch the video.
edit: I am going to stop replying to comments because I feel that people will be strongly for or against this and I'm not going to be able to change your mind about this. I will still be reading the comments though.
edit: send a handwritten letter to gamestop explaining why we won't shop at it and that if it finds a better way being convenient for shoppers but not harming or helping the game industry that we will start shopping their again.

Game stop isn't a monopoly at all.

They happen to be the only national chain of specialty game retailers. They are so far from the only game retailers that the idea of their being a proper monopoly is laughable.

game another big game retailer also that is why we have to support the independent retailers so their is more of a competition for game stop meaning things will be better for the game industry.

Well, I can buy all the games I want from:
Best Buy
Futureshop
Walmart
Rogers Video
The Source
HMV
K-Mart
Target
Staples

I'm sure there is a few I'm missing.
And do you know how many private owned, 'mom and pop' stores around my area sell new-release video games?
Zero.

I'll keep buying from Gamestop.

Dude, GAME is UK only. Gamestop is mainly in USA.

OT: I don't buy from them anyway, since my nearest Gamestop is in Birmingham, which is you look on my profile, I am about 20 miles from Birmingham, so I'd much rather go to Tamworth to my Local Game or Gamestation. And let's not take down the biggest speciality game retailer in the world. Lots of people employed, bad economic climate, you see where I'm going?

Calumon: Don't stop me now! I'm loving Kingdom Hearts, I'm having a ball!

Considering Gamestop is the only store in my town that specialize in new/used games I'm probably not going to stop shopping there.

I do also have a local Best Buy but its a bit farther form my house.

That's kinda a butt-hole move but w/e.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and the critical points it had to offer. I think we should all try and do what we can.

He makes some good points, but yeah, I won't be joining. I live in a place too rural for any indie store to set up shop, but there are a couple GameStops littering the land-scape. I'd like to see some competition, or possibly some situation in which publishers cut a deal with the retailer to get a percentage, even a small one, from used game sales, though I have no idea what leverage they could possibly use to get the retailer to agree to that. I've ordered my share of games online too, but I'm fairly certain that many are being sold 'used - good as new' rather than in factory-original packaging, so I don't know exactly how helpful that is either.

MY GOD HE's FA-

*cough*
Sorry.

No, screw him. Even if I've ever gone into a Gamestop (Which I haven't. Never even seen one, either) I'd stop buying from there because my local shop is awesome, not because he wants me to.

Edit: Also, he annoys me as he sounds like MovieBob, and if anyone ever read the 101 things that make me rage, you'd know that MB was listed three times.

Incidently, it took me AGES to write that list, and I doubt ANYONE read it!
That makes it 102!

I already try those things.

So yeah, no problem for me.

Also, if Publishers want to put the hurt on Gamestop, then all they have to do is reduce prices. This would cause more people to buy new, and giving the consumer a good deal. More sales from new games would mean more profit for the Publisher.

This video does hold a lot of valid points. However the basic premise is critically flawed.

Ganmestop isn't a monopoly. They are an industry leader. They are not a monopoly.

There's a world of difference there.

Nope.
There are plenty of shops to choose from if you don't like GS.

Its just GS usually has what im looking for and some great deals/trade ins.

And if by industry you mean the prices, then a lot of new games are that pricey because of the developers, not GS.
And what do you mean by increase the chance of new games coming out?
Last i checked GS sold games, not make em.

Thank you for this list. I was going to make a list similar, but it's already been done. This shows there is no monopoly.

I have a feeling, at the root of this video, there have been feelings hurt. So a call has been shouted out. Sorry, I'm not anybody's personal army.

I shall continue to shop where the best deals are at, be they GameStop, eBay, Wal-Mart, or Leroy's Pawn & Gun down the block.

You really want to stat a revolution, guy in video? Don't go after a company trying to make money. It was claimed that costs for producing these games skyrocketed. So, go after what has increased the prices. Overzealous mass-marketing. Over-blown self-important designers.

And the people willing to shell out $60 for what amounts to half a game, then shell out another $20+ for DLC.

Yea, I'm talking to you. *points finger at nobody in general*

Eh, I just received a game through the mail from Gamestop!

And as far as I'm concerned, they're the easiest for me to deal with, and get what I want... which is kind of more important at this point.

If we just boycott what is most successful then we aren't improving the total quality at all, we should be boycotting Gamestop if it practiced dirty business tactics or anti-consumer policy, not because it makes a lot of money. Sometimes things are successful because , oh I don't know, they work better than others?
