Funny how people always forget Mew and Missin§£¥~¶®ÝöǽП.

You are correct, but the second two were more to illustrate that it's not as if they've always been about animals. It's not as if those three are the only ones in Gen. I either. It's not exactly a big deal to go through the whole list and point out where the designs are retarded/utterly unoriginal and that most people are viewing it through super rose-tinted nostalgia glasses.

The 4th. It has all of the Pokemon and gameplay stuff from the previous generations.

I'm goin with HeartGold and SoulSilver. They take the best games in the series and improve on them. I still giggle everytime I get a phonecall from Claire.

Generation 45, after running out of ideas (welcome-mat-mon wasnt very popular), they buyed off digimons (all seasons) and monster rancher (whatever it is) to add to their long list of monsters you can collect... and they added particle effects and animated limbs (for the main character) to the game.

Gen 2! It kicked the most ass, and Crystal has been my favourite game. Where did the 16 gyms thing go? I liked that.

Pretty much all the generations were amazing, Execpt for Pearl, Diamond, and Platnium. Something about those oens feel were just..weird. Personally my favorites are Silver and Ruby.

1. Would it be worth my time to invest in the newest gen games without playing the originals?
2. What's your favorite generation and what do you like about it?
1. Yes. You don't need to have played anything to understand them.
2. They're all very interchangeable to me, but each game improves the gameplay of the previous generation, and I frankly like having a greater variety of Pokemon. The 4th generation is my favorite- I like the plot and post-game options of Diamond (et al) and the huge map of SoulSilver (et al).

I got blue/gold the day they came out, got sapphire as a gift, then recently got Heart Gold out of nostalgia. I can say that the Gold and Silver were the best generation bar none. The first game felt a little wonky, small, and unfinished; but doubling the size of the game, adding more guys and a better(ish) storyline on top of it made my day. Hold items and breeding too.

HG/SS are marked improvements on the originals because they take the game mechanics of the previous games, add polish of their own, and bring back a nostalgic setting. They're definitely worthy of the $40 investment.

In terms of games, I have to say HG/SS. But when speaking of the Pokemon themselves, 1st gen all the way.

I like second gen but third just completes it. The second is my second choice. the first was not enough and the forth was... over doing it.
