fallout 3 is better than oblivion, but basically the same game. its like saying brawl is better than mele, you played mele first and they are 99% identicle anyway! so how could you prefer the later game unless you where retarded enough to miss out on the first??!?

voted oblivion. anyone who disagrees with me is a fool! I'm not being biased either I love mass effect too, but its a linear game that lasts about 5 hours gameplay, how could you compare it to a sandbox game that you can invest weeks into, and do things like explore and not just listen to diaglog?
I stopped listening after about the first sentance. Calling people 'retards' isn't going to help anything, and you need to learn to respect other people's opinions. Also, get your facts right. There are large differences between Brawl and Melee, and if you finished Mass Effect in 5 hours you did it wrong.

As an RPG - Oblivion, but my favorite game overall in the list is Fallout 3.

I'm inclined to end up going for The Witcher (EE). The story, characters and writing blow away everything on that list and the game is great at giving you morally complex choices and consquences.

Admittedly I have only played a few items on the list, but I thought Mass Effect did one thing better than all the others I played. Pacing. RPG's in my opinion have a tendency to drag on a bit. (Having said that, I did none of the side missions)

way to contradict yourself, you obviously did read more than first sentence so why say that?

I said fool, not retard.

I don't seriously think my opinion is obselete. welcome to the internet.

there are no noticable differences between brawl and mele in my opinion, respect it or be a hippocrit :D

maybe I rushed though mass effect the first time, but I completed it twice and did all the extra stuff including DLC and all planets, content still pales in comparasion to fallout 3 or oblivion and thats even without any of the DLC.

each to his own! I actually like mass effect alot but its defo overated, not even better than kotor tbh. got better graphics and combat but no depth and too linear.

Mother 3, it toys with your emotions like nothing else.
It's role playing when you feel depressed because the players Mother has just died, not because you lost the final boss battle for the umpteenth time.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (close enough to this generation). As much as i enjoyed all the above (except Oblivion) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is hard to beat.
I haven't played Lost Odyssey or Tales of Vesperia though.

You're a douchebag. Mass Effect took me about 25 hours, just for the story alone, and roughly 90 hours to finish all sidequests and explore all the worlds, so the fact that you finished it in 5 hours leads me to believe you're an idiot, who didn't bother finishing the game.
Also, Fallout 3 (not as good as the previous ones) was far superiour to Oblivion in gameplay, the concept, the voice actiing (FAR superiour to Oblivion),the world, and the story (especially the story).
I finished Oblivion (all the sidequests and main quests, took me about 120 hours) JUST so I could say to people like you that it's such a boring game. Sure it's a massive sandbox, but compared to fallout 3, its big and empty. You have to walk miles to get anywhere. There's no way of knowing whether the monster in front of you is going to kick your arse or not, the quest map and system was really cumbersome and the battle interface was tacky and annoying, very slow to respond and just overall awkward. The only remotely interesting quest that I'll admit kept me playing was Knights of the Nine. Everything else, I kept hoping would be as good as KoTN, but it wasn't. Sure Fallout3 to me felt like Oblivion with guns, but I actually had fun playing Fallout3.
Also, it's spelt Melee! -.-

Neverwinter Nights 2 & it's first expansion. Dissapointed with the Westgate & Zahir expansions though.

Best Softcore RPG does to the Aveyond series for it's oldschool style, for showing that girls can make awesome games, & because the story didn't suck.

If you wanna go back to the earlier 2000s, it's a tie between Baldur's Gate II & Neverwinter Nights 1 (& that mod that let you be a pirate-zombie).

All good games, but I think the OP was referring to this generation of games/consoles. That's why I said Clear Sky as opposed to Shadow Of Chernobyl.
Or are you trying to say PC never ages?
Ah... I see what you did there! Clever.

Mass Effect, hands down. I know I'm a BioWare fangirl, but even aside from that ME delivered on levels no other game in this generation has managed. The story was gripping and interesting, the plot managed to grab me on an emotional level, and the characters were well-developed and unique. Not to mention the fully animated/voiced and interactive cutscenes took gaming-as-art to a whole new level. As for the others...

I've never played the JRPG's on the list (not my cup of tea). Fallout 3 was a huge disappointment to me as a fan of the original games. Oblivion was a huge disappointment as a fan of Morrowind (please, Bethesda, no more sequels if they're following this cookie-cutter, vanilla mold). Fable 2 was boring and the dialogue grating. Really, it's no contest.
