OOOOOO, hard to choose from Gintoki or L....hmmm.
Theres really too many to decide from, but I guess L, not cool, but weird, and thats fine by me.

But then again, how could you leave out people like Lelouch, C2, Yurippe, Taiga, Ryuuguu Rena.....ect?
If you watch Gintama, YOU WIN!

It's complex to summarize it in a few lines... Let me try.

Kino's the only anime female character whose personality not only isn't downgraded by "Girliness" but, on the contrary, the fact she presents herself basically as a "genderless" entity provides a major "fusion" with the point of view of the people who watch the anime. You see, the great thing about this apparently "minimalist" character is that she's to be seen as some sort of avatar that guides us through a deep journey of both self-discovery and re-discovery of the world in all its variety and magnificence; we feel all sorts of emotions through her perception of the world, we judge humanity in its qualities and defects and, in doing so, we found our own vision of the world, thus learning more about ourselves and, in retrospect, we also learn about the character herself... or at least what we think of her as a character! In fact, with just a few exceptions, Kino doesn't get actively or willingly involved in all events she partakes, she's a spectator (much like us), a literal traveller who's out to understand Life... and watching this anime IS much like a journey for us, a journey into pure Suspension of Disbelief, in which we can actually learn something about pretty much anything..............

Uff, there's actually a LOT more were this analysis comes from (Kino means both "Cinema" and "Eye" in many Asian languages including Russian; The Kinopravda, the cinematic concept devised by Soviet Union director Dziga Vertov in the '20s, by which a single cameraman (a Kinoki) goes around filming life only to deform it through groundbreaking montage technicques, in order to analyze it better; Soviet Russian Filmmaking in general), but I'll just leave it at that.
So yes, "Kino's Journey" is one of my favourite things of all time and Kino kicks arse.
I hope your mind hasn't blown yet ;)
First thing... sorry, mind was already blown when I saw a picture of Rarity as Lelith Hesperax.

Anyway, you've definitely given me a lot to think about, and it's just as well I'm heading home tomorrow (anime DVD collection is back at my parents'), so I'm going to have to watch Kino no Tabi again this weekend. Thing was, only remember the first few episodes and they seemed somewhat dispassionate. (Second opinion required, by the looks of things.)

OT: For shits (again) - the Dorm Mistress from Maria-Holic (Please, call me God or Boss - and this, from a catgirl)

Glad that you have Baccano on there, though Shizuo from Durarara (Baccano's spiritual successor) is even more awesome than anyone from it.

Though I have to wonder, of all the Dragon Ball Z characters, you have Majin Buu as the coolest? Not Vegeta, not Cell, but Buu? Really?
In all honesty, DBZ can eat my shorts... I'm sick of that overrated phenomenon that was partly responsible for ruining anime (other guilty parties would Neon Genesis Evangelion, Final Fantasy VII and Pokémon). But Majin Boo... holy son goku on a pole, is THE SHIT!!!!! I mean, c'mon, it's an unbelievably semi-undestructible overpowered super duper entity with a million different personalities. He's completely unpredictable, everything he does is for the sake of Chaos and Destruction and he's funny as hell! In other words, Majin Boo is the Joker of the DBZ universe! As far as any anime villain goes, Freeza and Cell are pretty standard in both motivations and characterization... but Majin Boo... He turns people into cookies and EATS them and his first incarnation looked like the Buddha (oh the Irony).
Plus, Vegeta is a whiney biotch and Goku is a goody two-shoes... no coolness detected, nope.

Oh gawd... "Maria-Holic". I'm feeling a bit sick , right now.

I'm glad I could "enlighten" you on that subject. I'm a Film Critic and I'm European, say hello to my Ego, he's just passing by... ;)
Also, I like the ponies... Don't make me start with ponies or I'll end up giving you a lecture about the last twenty years of TV animation, from "Transformers" to "PowerPuff Girls" to this XD

Not to mention that Simon also voices this guy:

If you don't know who he is, I'll let this video talk for me.

Anyways, I'll go ahead and say it's a tie between Hei from Darker than Black and Guts from Beserk. Hei has the whole Batman preparedness/ingeniuty, so he wins by default.

I chose other for this one but my first thought was Spike. My top three are tied between Spike, Alucard from Hellsing, and Kamina from Gurren Lagann.
Oh yeah, Alucard is freaking awesome! But he loses points for having a lame, overused name.

The way I see it, "Darker Than Black" is basically a gritty version of X-Men.

Yea, but his suit freaking regenerates with him. C'mon, that has to count for something. Plus he actually is Dracula so does he really lose points for reversing his own name? And he gets purposefully shot to pieces with a smile on his face. Though that could just be him being a psychotic bastard.

I kinda thought it was more like Heroes and X-Men melded together.
EDIT: Minus this:

Kamina from gurren lagann. Its really not even a comptetion
Every character from tha show is so impossibly exaggerated that I still can't figure out if I loved or hated for that. One thing for sure though, after 26 episodes of that thing, I was BEAT like flattened mosquito beneath an anvil.
Funny thing, to me the series really started to look interesting after episode 8... you know what I'm talking about.

Yes, he DOES lose points for reversing his own name... but mostly because there are too many alucards already! Other that... HE'S THE SHYTE!

As I already stated: I needed at least thirty choices for this poll.
