Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon is the most badass anime character of all time. Here's why:
PREMISE 1: Tuxedo Mask always makes his entrance with the toss of a rose -- and it ALWAYS strikes fear into the heart of every opponent he faces.
PREMISE 2: Tuxedo Mask does battle in a tuxedo and top hat -- and NEVER has his sexuality questioned.
PREMISE 3: Tuxedo Mask never completely declares whether he is a "good guy" or a "bad guy," but always does whatever is good for himself -- and NEVER gets antagonized by the fandom for it.
PREMISE 4: Tuxedo Mask sword-fights with a cane -- and is NEVER accused of being Sailor Moon's pimp.
PREMISE 4b: According to Wikipedia (the source of all reliable information), "Although he is not a Senshi, Tuxedo Mask possesses a power item like theirs, a Sailor Crystal, which gives him guardianship over the planet Earth." This means Tuxedo Mask is not only Sailor Earth, but it makes him the only male Senshi -- yet he is NEVER called a Senshi Pimp.
PREMISE 5: Tuxedo Mask is brought back to life or reincarnated several times. The only other people known to have done or known to be capable of similar phenomena are Jesus Christ and Chuck Norris.

And yes, I know Utena, the theme song that precedes each duel is simply fantastic... and that's pretty much it. The anime might have had a good concept but the execution was lacky and pretty boring. That's my opinion as a critic, sorry. I can see you love it by the choice of your name.

My favourite characters would be a toss up between Lelouch from Code Geass or Hei/Bk201/Li from Darker than black. Or maybe any of the other characters from Code Geass... that anime had such good characterisation.
