If anyone says ANYBODY from Death Note, One Piece or Naruto, they need to watch some proper anime.

To be completely fair, Jiraiya (from Naruto) is basically pure awesome distilled into a human form.

EDIT: I'm very disappointed in you for the lack of Astro Boy love... come on, anime wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for good old Atom!

I chose Baccano, because the strength of having a large cast of highly cool characters beats out stuff where all the cool is concentrated into one or two characters (give or take villains who get killed off).

To address your Astro Boy choice: his historical significance is irrelevant to the fact that he is not, and never will be "cool". He has machine guns in his butt, that's just stupid. If you had put Tenma up there, that might have drawn some votes.
