Just wondering what are your opinions on the death penalty are. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to affect your posts. So, what do you think?

Why pay taxes to keep a murderer alive? Eye-for-an-eye. Killed for being a killer.

Same for rapists.

But accidental killing, manslaughter, that gets a 30-50 year sentence.

I don't quite agree on the rapists thing, maybe to a degree yes

Death is a realese, not a punishment.
be happy for those whom join with the universe, for them feel no grief.
so my point of view is put the bastards in a cage and let them live

I don't see why life sentences can't just be used. BUT make them for ACTUAL life, don't let people let out for "good behaviour" after they've murdered someone.

while i agree that there are many crimes that justify, or even necessitate, the death of the offender. I don't trust our legal system enough to carry it out.

1. I don't think we as human have the right to choose who lives and who dies.

2. Its more expensive than life in prison

3. You can undo a life sentence if more evidence or testimony surfaces, can't exactly bring back the dead....

No.

There's no excuse for killing another person.

Not to mention that the legal systems in most countries have about a 20% false positive rate!

Remember: Two wrongs don't make a right.

I do wish people would realise that treating criminals badly makes the rest of us look just as bad.

Then again, I believe in justice not punishment.

Here we go again... NO!

By supporting the death penalty you are saying you find it acceptable to put innocent men to death. Any system, however perfect, is operated by human beings who will make mistakes, how do you take back execution when you find out the guy didn't do it after all?

Also, in the US it costs a great deal more to execute a prisoner than to imprison them for life. Handing down a death sentence means a massive and lengthy legal process of appeals/assessment of (paradoxical) fitness for execution and a bunch of other things that take years and costs millions. It's much cheaper just to lock them up until they die of their own accord, people are also more accepting of this as it retains the hope of proving the defendant's innocence, even if that's never going to happen.

Against it. Never retractable, always flawed. It sucks.
I say let's put those people into life imprisonment and make them work for the society they harmed, pay for their prison stay.
If a person is wrongfully imprisoned, at least they can be rehabilitated and (partially) compensated.
But killing them? No. No way.

If you get the wrong person and then execute them your screwed.
Imagine your dad or someone being accused of murder and executed.
You know he didnt do it but that wont stop the sorrow.
Now just imagine that less than a month after hes executed the real guy is found and convicted.
Now thats a pretty big oops on the justice ministrys side.
At least if someone is life imprisoned, you know that if you get the wrong guy he can be let out with the turn of a key.
Pretty hard to do that if someones dead.

An eye for an eye and the whole world ends up blind. The justice system is ment to protect society and rehabilitate those who've done wrong, all this does is commit petty revenge, who's gonna be protected? and hows that gonna fix the person? Also there is miscarrige of justice so the whole argument of "SHOOT THEM RIGHT AWAY WITH EXPLODING BULLETS, THEY'RE WROOOONG! JUST LIKE ALL THEM RAPIST AND SHOPLIFTERS!" is flawed, Until we discover necromancy or something that would hurt a handful of innocent people.
