I'm sure we could work in some other genres somehow...

Anyone who says pokemon was repetitive after generation X clearly hasn't played any other version apart from the one they've played. Otherwise they'd have realised that each new generation has added in a new element that totally changes the game.

Gen 1: Start
Gen 2: Held items/Eggs
Gen 3: Natures/Abilities
Gen 4: Physical/Special Split

Each change basically makes it a similar different game. All they need to really do is changes the story a little. Aiming to be the best is great and all but how many times are we going to have to defeat Team Rocket/Magma/Aqua/Galactic?

I think they SHOULD, but they should kick it off in a huge fashion. What do I mean? Let me try to summarize in a list.

-Console release
-All regions from the handhelds
-Full 3D
-Access to every pokemon ever
-Customizable character that isn't 11

In short, an adventure-RPG pokemon game that is a full-3D all-pokemon all-region console bonanza.

It seems clear to me that they keep doing this just for the money but they do a good job so I don't care either way.

You can't let such a storied franchise die out just like that. When the end comes, it needs to be given a proper send off such as a world wide celebration.

Besides, the quality of the gameplay hasn't declined at all, rather it has gone up according to most gaming experts. I stopped following the series around the the time the third generation came out, but I am proud to say that I was part of the first generation of Pokemaniacs. The franchise needs to kept alive for a good long while so that future generations can appreciate it. Gamefreak does not need to stop making Pokemon games. When it does decide to end the series, however, it should be given the proper recognition for its contribution not only to the gaming world but also to pop-culture in general.

I don't care. Pokémon will stop, but only when Digimon rises again.

Calumon: Cross Wars... I hope Saban takes it and does something good.
That would be an interesting concept indeed. Also, I didn't know that Digimon was still going.

NEVER. Yes, Gold and Silver were the best generation. Yes, Diamond and Pearl's pokémon designs sucked epically. Yes, the very thought of what the anime has become makes me want to puke up any number of diabetes-ruined organs. No, none of this changes the fact that the games are fun to play. Besides which fact, Black and White are shaping up to look like a real comeback for the franchise.

odds are pokemon will be around longer than most of us will be paying attention to it. if mario is going on 30+ years pokemon can milk it for at least 15 more

Doesn't much matter to me, was happy enough with with the latest versions of Gold and Silver that I since vowed that I'd never move on to the next generations.

So Black and White may as well not even exist to me...

Oh yes, Why Last Month, a new series was announced for Japan. Hopefully the English version won't be terrible.

Calumon: There's even an Official MMO going n right now started earlier this year!

I'm thinking Nintendo see the Pokemon series as it sees Kirby, Zelda and Mario. Something that always has and always will sell. Pokemon won't end until Nintendo does. Not that that's a good thing for Pokemon...

I'll ask them to stop making pokemon games when I stop enjoying them. The combat is fine tuned, the nostalgia mixed with new adventures is nice, and it's the latest game I remember playing that felt like a classic RPG. I wouldn't mind if the characters got older(which apparently they are in Black and white) or the story took a turn away from cartoonish saturday morning cartoons feeling for once, but it's not a deal breaker if those things don't change. So long as they keep coming up with new move sets, items, and locations to keep things interesting, I'll be fine with pokemon living on.

I'm sorry, but IMHO Digimon is crap, and the best thing that ever came out of it were the original virtual pets that you could raise and battle with friends. There was no need to expand the franchise beyond that, because the anime was one of the worst dubs ever (and based on what appear to be 6-year-old kids), the card game was ripped straight from Pokemon, and I would never bother playing one of the actual video games because they were rated poorly even by those reviewers who are normally wowed by the same-old formula.

Overall, Digimon as a whole rates about the same as Yu-Gi-Oh, which is too say, terribly mediocre at best. Whether they copied all of it or none of it from Pokemon, it's obvious that they were playing off the success of that franchise to excess.
Now I could try and argue with that, but I think that I've posted enough on this thread as I defend Digimon. So I'll make it snappy.

The virtual pets were never released outside Japan, and when Toei Animation asked if they could make a motion picture out of it, Bandai said go for it. It became successful, series came out WITH OKAY DUBS, NOT BAD, and they did this in order to make Digimon a Global franchise. Then 2 years later Tamers came out AND HAD AMAZING EVERYTHING. DON'T ARGUE, FAILURE MAY FOLLOW.

Calumon: Jack means this in the nicest Possible way. He just gets sensitive about Digimon. It's under his, "Defend unto Death" franchises.

*ahem* No, they should hire me to write and produce the next game, who would like to join team rocket (a new name they would have yes) and steal pokemon? Or maybe you could help out the police and get discounts on items? or you could skip all that crap and take on the gym challenge like a NORMAL FRIGGIN PERSON. Leave all that jazz to the player, but give the option to do any of them. That's right, alignment/story choices that ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING! I have a boat load of ideas that could make pokemon a real RPG game, but no one listens to me.
interesting, now that would be a game i would want to play. what would also be interesting is if the player could actually become a gym leader and have people come and challenge them instead of having to run all over the map with a verse seeker hoping that someone is willing to fight you (srry, one of my least favorite parts of the game).

But me and all my friends had the virtual pet Digimon as kids. We'd raise them and fight them during recess. Lemme see if I can find a picture of the one I had...

Hmmm, now this intrigues me. Going to Wikipedia. Something may need an edit.

Calumon: You got him obsessed now! And he has an RP to work on!
