Noooo, I cannot quote the guy who really has it in for my avatar ;_;. I can't work it out, who needs to die in a fire me or the stick people?

I obviously don't mind them, in fact, I'm more likely to look at an avatar that's a GIF or a really colourful still that stands out.
I guess I'm easily pleased by brightly coloured moving things?

Ignore him, I think your avatar is awesome. One of the best on the site.

Those with GIF avatars give a clear message to me, and that message is, "Expressing my opinion clearly isn't as important to me as making you pay attention to my individuality by distracting you with this loop of a japanese dating sim character cuddling with a cartoon pony. Forget about my comment. Be mesmerized by the visual fan-fiction instead."

Actually, I imagine that people with gifs as their avatars credit you with the ability to read a comment with a minor distraction in the corner, watch subtitled films, or read a book without the entire room going into standstill.

I understand the gifs are obviously distracting, but from the looks of the poll it seems the problem lies in you, not in others.

Eh, turns out I really can't be arsed. Didn't help matters any that all my animated gifs are at least 500kb.
Besides, I couldn't get rid of Vinyl Scratch.

In specific...

Some of them hurt my eyes, some of them are distracting, some of them are stupid.

Others of them are fun, some are interesting, some make me chuckle when I look at them.

Not much different to static avatars, only that if there are a lot of gif avatars I've noticed that it makes my browser run slower (or given how things have been since the new Escapist, it makes things run even slower)
