Some rap is good, but some just plain sucks, and I mean rappers that just repeat the same stuff another person's doing, as if they just want the money and not the great feeling you get when you create something unique.

It's mostly crap. I won't say that it's all bad, because some of the deeper songs by Eminem are actually really good, lyrically.
The majority of it (and I used to listen to it, I know what I'm talking about) is complete shit, lyrically.
I don't enjoy the beats and stuff for any rap, so the closet I come to listening to rap, is rap/rock or rap/metal, like POD and RAtM.

The concept of rap is actually really really good. The style of and rhythm rap itself has is pretty cool.
What i don't like is gangsta rap that glorifies violence, negligent(<--- key word) drug use, criminal activity, the killing of cops and racism. What a lot of that crap doesn't seem to get is racism goes both ways. If its not okay if i insult you for being black its not okay if you insult me for being white.
The whole "stop snitching" line is probably one of the stupidest shit i ever heard. Its easy to "stop snitching" when you have millions of dollars and armed guards protecting you.
Ultimately i have heard rap in my life that i think is good and i can listen to. Its just overshadowed by everything just complained about above.

If the lyrics are good (and they can actually be made out and aren't slurred) it can be alright. But it's just sooooo boring. I need rhythmic and harmonic development in my music. If it's the same 12 second bass line looped over and over again for 3 minutes I won't like it no matter how interesting the lyrics are.

Please, don't loudly exclaim blind generalizations on subjects you know absolutely nothing about.
A lot of rap sucks, but then again a lot of everything sucks. Much of the mainstream rap sucks because media like MTV have spent a lot of time and money glorifying the whole retarded 'gangsta' image and the shitty music that comes with it, but if you judge all rap by that nonsense you're missing out on a lot of very good stuff. I mean, it's ok if you just don't like the music, but when I talk to people who think rap sucks it almost always turns out they base their whole opinion on a stereotypical media-induced image of what modern rap is.
It's mostly rubbish but a lot of eminems songs are okay and Flight of the Conchords, "Hurt Feelings" and "Inner City Pressure" are so full of genius that they elevate the entire rapping genre of music
My opinion on rap is the same as my opinion on every other genre: Some of it is good, most of it will make your ears bleed, a very, very small amount of it will make you feel like you never need to hear anything else in your life, and it's modern incarnation is almost universally vile.
Most people here are strictly rock/metalheads. Rap is on the list of hated genres, along with Techno and Pop.

Personally, I can see why it get such a bad rap nowadays. Most of the music concentrates on being obscene and violent rather than meaningful. That being said, I still find many of the old tracks from the 90's to be quite hip and I wouldn't mind hopping to them any day.
There are very few things more annoying than somebody blaring their stereo with the windows down, because 99.99999999999% of the time, they're listening to some horrible rap "song". My opinion on rap as a musical genre can be quickly summarized thusly: Add the letter C to the beginning.

I really enjoy rap. Needless to say I don't enjoy rap that I think is crap, just like I don't enjoy jazz I think is generic. A few of my favorite songs are in the rap genre. Though alot of today's stuff is terrible, I find it doesn't take too much digging to find gold.
You have too look past all the shitty Top 40 "artists" to actually find something worthwhile in the world of Hip-Hop and rap.
