I agree 100%. It would make our nation stronger, the benefits of each country would be shared. Even just the establishment of an EU power grid would benefit everyone.

I still want the UK to adopt the Euro.

Yes, but they don't have Serbia and Bosnia and such to worry about.
Because Serbia and Bosnia have been part of the E.U. since... when?
I thought he meant Europe.
Well, the title clearly states "EU".

The problem with a united Europe is that same old chestnut, disagreement. Europe cant agree on the colour of green. Old rivalries still dominate, most of what Britain wants, France will oppose, Germany-Poland, and as for Turkey wanting in the EU, Screw that!!!

There are other problems too, although most of Europe has adopted the Euro, 1/4 still haven't, theres also the problems of what will the heads of state represent? Most nations are unwilling to dispand the Royal families after hundreds if not thousands of years of traditions.

The current system is good for now, at least its a step forward from feuding states, we can now talk, even if no one listens. The military and economic unions could be a good idea, as long as responsibility, work load and wealth is distributed evenly across the board. Military union might work better, as the success of NATO over the years to co-operate and take on responisibilities is a clear sign that we can work in union.
Most of the fueds you mention are hilariously outdated. Seriously, Germany and Poland? Since when? 1939? And I din't see any problem with Turkey joining, especially after we let countries like Romania and Bulgaria in.

Also, 15 out of 27 member countries use the Euro, to me that doesn't seem to equate 1/4.

In the end though, I mainly agree with you. A single European Union state probably wouldn't work that well, but we should continue going down the road we are now (single currency, no frontiers, etc) and hopefully one day we will be able to do stuff like a single economy or E.U. army.

what about britain and germany though. you would be suprised how much we have in common despite our APPARENT hatred for each other because of the war. germans and britons both love tons of football and big pints of beer down the local, and if you go to germany, the only way you can tell its germany is the launguage. everything else is really similar.

The problem is that we (Europeans) are just too diverse and divided. Thousands of years of history is not easily unmade and forgotten (thank god). Just to made into this point of our loose aliance is somewhat of an miracle. We simply don't trust each other, because everyone are trying to get themselves a bigger slice from the cake. No one is looking out for each other and is ready to sacrifice their neighbour if there's some benefit for it.

Edit: This thread itself is a good example how well we can agree on anything.

On that note, I had a German guy come in to my bar 2 weeks ago, he asked for a Caiprioska (Lime, sugar and Vodka), when I asked him what vodka he wanted he told me to pick for him.

I picked Belvedere, a Polish vodka.

I got the irony of serving a German the national drink of a country that defeated Germany in WWII, which was made in the country that Germany invaded to initiate the war just as I was pouring it and had to stop myself from laughing.

Poland defeated Germany in WWII? They must edit out that part in the history books. *cough*

Or maybe you were referring to Britain. Your post is kinda confusing.

Do you also crack uo when eating at an Indian restaurant?

I see the advantages, but it won't work for a pretty simple reason: the continent has too much variation in everything. A lot of small but extremely different countries.

No he means that vodka is the Russian national drink, but that brand is made in Poland.

we dont sacrifice our neibours.
and ive just thought of a great example so im going to put in capitals so peoples attention will be drawn to it to read.
TODAY FRANCE THANKED THE EUROPEAN UNION BECAUSE WITHOUT ITS HELP IT DOESNT BELIEVE IT WOULD HAVE GOT ITS CIVILLIAN BAILED FROM THE COURTS IN IRAN. IT THE EU HADNT INTERVENED AND THREATENED THAT ALL 27 MEMBERS WOULD WITHDRAW THEIR DIPLOMATS THEN IRAN MIGHT NOT HAVE LET HER GO.
of course theres still the matter of the british and french embassy worker but this is a perfect example of how the eu can help each other.

The EU is fine as it is, it consists of pretty diverse cultures, forcing all of them in the strait-jacket of a single nation wouldn't really work.
There are just to many regional differences for a unified nation of Europe to work.

Though I like the basic principal of the EU, I'm not fond of the way it's turned out...

I'd like to see it return to the style of cooperation in the EF, consisting solely of free trade and open borders.

That's exactly my reason! All this currency changing is annoying, besides if the UK joins the euro currency then the Euro will get a massive boost. Also if the EU was one nation we could just travel, live and work wherever we want in the member states.

Also our as a superstate the EU military budget would be halved from shared resources so that's a bonus there.

No, Russia defeated Germany in WWII, vodka being Russia's national drink. Why would I crack up when eating Indian?

The only reason that I know of for the UK being in the EU, is for trade, and the fact that the rest of Europe never wanted us to join in the first place , doesn't exactly paint a picture for a perfect future. It might just be my pessimism and distrust for everyone I meet, but all I can see in this is the UK getting screwed over...

Also, Isn't the UK already a major superpower?

I just realized you're Australian, so it's a moot point. Also, you should've specified the Russia part, one would tend to think Polish vodka would be Poland's national drink.

Yes, the sooner Europe is united, the sooner earth will be united, the sooner we can start colonizing space (preferably before earth stops supporting life).

Edit: Oh, I forgot: the sooner we can start a civil war using Gundams.

EXACTLY EXACTLY
good god where have people like you been when my friends called me insane for suggesting this.
all this stuff should really be posted somewhere where people can read it. All these ideas are good. i'd be able to pack up and move to madrid with no strings attatched. when all the poles move to britain, im willing to bet all the britains will move to the spanish coast and the spanish will probally move to poland. everyone always likes the climate and food and stuff in holiday countrys better. with this we could just move there. A European federation is definatly the way to go

I'm a little unclear why it's ironic or funny for a German to drink vodka.

I suppose that makes it ironic and funny when I ordered a Sam Adams last time I was in America - hah! I bought an American beer when the Americans got their independence from my home country.

No, I've tried and I still don't get it.
