Confession: I started playing with RE4 and 5.

A while back I suggested that the next RE be set in a futuristic-looking city in order to face players with multiple paths through the myriad architecture. Over-the-shoulder seems to be the most popular but really every camera has had its problems. I would prefer a dynamic camera which allows transition between viewpoints when you're climbing something or shooting something. The virus kind doesn't matter, and in a game set many years after the previous ones its plausible for a brand new one with even more terrifying effects to have come into being (thinking one that also affects electronics).

From what I can tell RE has often stumbled between the desire to be survival horror and straight-up zombie blast-a-thon, particularly with RE5's Co-op taking away a great deal of the possible tension factor. Not a big fan of the Co-op myself, but hey, public knows best. Even in a Co-op situation, making the big beasties appropriately persistent and brutal (both visually and statistically; a two-bite kill) could maintain the horror, particularly in a limited-ammo environment where the real goal is merely to get on to the next checkpoint with both players alive. To further that end, the vanilla zombies will be back to their traditional sluggish gait but will be plentiful and will always return to unlife several minutes of real-time after they are taken down. Only the big beasties are fast enough to chase you further than a few areas. Smart teams resort to only shooting the ones in the way of where you need to go, running from the rest.

I want the classic set camera, but with amazing graphics and maybe Chris and Leon finally teaming up? Billy Cohen maybe?

RE4 is the model for a good game.

Not RE5. Almost everything done in RE5 was a step backward.

To put it comparatively while I genuinely regard RE4 as one of the best games not only on the Gamecube, but of the generation, I literally stopped playing RE5 after less than a half hour and I literally have not picked it up since.

Thank god it's my friend's copy.
I don't know, RE4 was a great game. It just wasn't scary enough. I think the series should break into two parts. One like RE4 style, and the other to follow with the style of the Amnesia and Penumbra games.

What it really needs is to go back to it's roots. Be a survivor horor. Not an action game with zombies in it.
Ammo should be so scarce that you regret every bullet missed.
This should be frightening enough that you crap your pants, but still want to go on with the story (another this RE has been missing for a LONG time).

For the movies, I'd prefer less slowmo.

For the games... co-op mode is cool, I like that. So probably just an amazing co-op game of RE that is like 4 I suppose
I'm sorry mate but do u even like resident evil games or horror for that fact because with horror u don't have one person with u! ur on ur own thats the whole point of survival horror!!
Resident Evil has never been scary.
no it is mate, in the time it was set in it was, the co-op idea was shit tho, i just want it to be u and the zombies not some women or bloke with me healing me too death or not shooting when she/he is meant to be!
I just have never found it scary, I thought it was more of a *slaughter the hordes of zombies* game instead of horror. The only scary thing about the franchise is POSSIBLY the first movie, and I still didn't find it scary.

/shrug, and since I thought the games were *slaughter the hordes of zombies* games, I'd be fine with more co-op.
Well don't comment on something about resident evil if you've never played 1,2 and 3, and also the movie's have got nothing to do with the games, its just a name for the movie and another thing resident evil is not just about "slaughter the hordes of zombies" it has got a story to it and other elements u sound like a fucking noob to me!!

I'd love to see them go back to (or more along the lines of) Resident Evil 4. I'd played a few of the games to that point, but RE4 is by far my favourite, and is definitely the one that got me hooked on the series.

Not to mention, there are still some parts of RE4 that are really pretty damn scary.
The first time you fight the Ganado, for example. The first time you encounter enemies whose heads explode and then reveal the giant tentacle thing (seriously wtf is up with Japan and tentacles!?). Then there's the scene where you're in the tunnel and have to investigate the locked room with the fucking creepy shadow thing that sprints at you.

I'm not fond of RE5's two-player story. For a start, it's a terrible system -- Resident Evil deliberately gives you very little in the way of ammunition and health. Splitting that between two people (one of whom is a useless AI that can't aim for shit) just doesn't work. Plus, being one person with a cool leather bomber jacket is much more fun than playing as a ridiculously jacked-up STARS agent.
hes not a jacked-up stars agent!!!! hes one of the original stars members and the best!!, and also Leon Kennedy was a noob when the accident began!! don't dis Chris Redfeild!!

Resident Evil started being good when it stopped being a survival horror game.
This francise taught us one thing, its never too late to stop being shit, only briefly though.

The story has to evolve, I can´t understand why so many people want to go back to Racoon city and the T virus, didn´t they (Capcom) pretty much covered all that part, Zero, Outbreak 1, 2, Umbrella chronicles, Darkside Chronicles, mmmm, of course those aren´t bad games, but they work better as spin offs (except for Zero, which I consider part of the main saga) the rest of those I mentioned are just made for us, the hardcore R.E players, Outbreak is just a pain in the ass in terms of gameplay, and chronicles are just mindless shooters with great atmosphere, but those aren´t triple A games... they are just cute little games to satiate our fanboy/hardcore needs. But a new main title (RE6), an old school RE with T viruses and zombies!?, It would be a step back and a fanboy-balless-cheap choice.

What'd like is simple. If you give the main character a sweet jacket (beginning of RE4), don't have the bad guys fucking steal it and never give it back.

Also, if you've seen some original gameplay footage of RE4, that looked pretty cool.

I want to be right about the next villain. In RE5, you find a list of names toward the end of the game of all the people that worked for Umbrella. Everyone on that list is dead, save for two people. One is locked up tight in prison and is written off as not a threat. The last person is named Jenny (if I remember) and it lists her whereabouts as unknown. I want her to be the next villain because 1) why else put that there if you're not going to do anything with it 2) I simply want to be right and go, "Called it!"

But Resident Evil was never, ever scary. Ever. It was always cheesy and stupid. It's just that Resident Evil 4 had passable gameplay, which is more than you can say about the boring corridor-fests that marked every single game in the series that doesn't have El Gigante or his African friend, whose name I forgot.

On topic: I'd really like it if Capcom made more games like Resident Evil 5. The first few Resident Evil games were unplayable garbage with no redeeming qualities besides comically bad writing. They weren't scary, and worst of all, they weren't fun. Resident Evil 4 was cool, but it wasn't until Resident Evil 5 fully embraced the campy nature of the presentation that I got a glimpse of something really great without having it call me a pervert and cross its legs. Resident Evil is fucking stupid, and it always has been, and the more it embraces that stupidity, the better off it'll be.

Oh, also, Ada Wong needs to stop being in games. She is just terrible, and not in a funny way like the large ham that was Excella Gionne.
lol wat, you can't be serious, can you? Resident Evil 5 took itself more seriously than any other game in the series.
