Have you ever managed to finish up a whole game without dying once (or saving even)?

There are some people that through an unparalleled act of divine intervention or the wilful abandonment of their social life manage to dominate a game so completely that have gone from one side of the "Press Here to Start" to the other without dying and/or saving (or food, water, and toilet). Or with just one "coin" (for the arcade-player).
There are a few, and they walk among us unnoticed.
This is your chance to tell others, besides that bored barman at your local pub, and openly brag about it.

It could have been on your first try or after sad months of unshowered and underfed discipline, it matters not.
Mine are:

1. (Thanks to bad game design) Hellgate: London.
On first (and only) try. Just once I came close to a dangerous moment through my own lack of skill. But that was it.

2. (Thanks to the fact that there is no end to this games) World of Warcraft.
After playing for a year with many other characters. A Hunter Dwarf that I got to 22nd level without dying. That was as far as I took that character before leaving the game. I know that 22nd does not seem like much, but still... without dying.

3. (This is not mine) My cousin, one coin, 1.000,000 points in Joust (that was an arcade machine that ruled), and brief fame in a local TV show for that deed.

That is it. Not great accomplishments maybe but that's what I have. Surely there'll be people with better and greater experiences.

PS for the smart ones: Obviously Adventure games don't count (>.<)

I beat Portal in my first sitting?

I smashed like, infinity Indonesian guys at Tekken 3 when I was 10 in Bali, I played for about 2 hours on less than a Dollar, due to exchange rates. :)

Bioshock on Veteran, but it was for the achievement 'Brass Balls'...and I abused the save feature so much the game started giving me dirty looks.

Fable 2, although you're character can't actually die so not much of an achievement

When I first died in WoW I was level 36 on my Paladin. I was like "Oh shit, no! Wait... I'm a ghost now, what's up with that?" then I went back to my corpse and ressurected... pretty obvious. Just never read the instruction manual, so I didn't know what happened when you died. Oddly enough that's when I noticed that I had a talent tree I could distribute points into. That made my day.

Mystical Ninja is the only game I've gone through without saving once. Not because I didn't want to, or because I was challenging myself. But because I didn't have the memory pack extension for the N64, so I couldn't save. I slowly made my way through that game, and I must say it was worth it. Of course this meant I stayed up for about two days straight with no sleep because I couldn't turn the console off.

But yea that's it.

I can remember plenty of games that didn't let you save. And I beat quite a few of them. Maybe I'm just old.

There was a time when I could do that in Doom, but going back to it, especially with some of the uber hard map packs I can't anymore.
If it counts I can 1 shot homeworld 2 and homeworld cataclysm, by which I mean not get a game over. I still lose metric fucktonnes of ships.

I could probably manage Crysis these days though...

interesting thought...

Might have to give that a try!

Bioshock 2- Vita Chambers were off from the start, I wasn't even aiming for the achievement. Only saved once or twice because something suddenly came up. Same with Bioshock 1 (except for turning off Vita chambers, but I never needed them anyway.)

There's a ton of games where I never died, either because you couldn't die, or because I played on easy. The first Bioshock was one. Never used a vita-chamber, ever.

Does the 2008 Prince of Persia count? That game refused to let me die.

I finished the first Bioshock without dying. I also beat recently singularity without dying. It seems lately the single player heavy fps are my beat in a few days joke plays for difficulty.

Not sure if you mean never once dying while playing a game, or beating it from start to finish without dying. If you mean the latter (and have an interest in older systems)... I'm a fairly avid 'speedrunner' so have done this with a number of NES games. Granted NES games are generally much shorter than current-gen games, but on the other hand they are often significantly more difficult.

Super Mario Bros. -- In about 7 minutes, with warps. nowhere near the world record of 5 minutes flat

Metroid - There is no saving, just passwords, and dying is extremely penalized... so beating it without dying is the way to go.

Legend of Zelda - This might be the most fun... Getting very good at this game to the point where you can beat it in under 40 minutes... it's just fun to do.

Rygar - This one I'm perhaps most proud of, it's a tough game that ruined me when I was a child. So I felt the need to get my revenge. This one can be done in about 30 minutes.

Contra - Not too hard if you practice enough, but very very satisfying.

Hope this wasn't too off-topic. I'm a dad now, so my days of being able to play for 10+ hours straight are over. Speed running NES games is something that can be done in under an hour, just about the amount of time I have free occasionally.

Ninja'd. I actually finished the game on my first playthrough in about 4 hours without dying. I think thaat game is the WORST next gen game I have played yet. Fable 1: the lost chapters is 1000000000000x better than that 2 hour piece of trash. I found out recently that you couldn't die anyway. Its like they are trying to make the easiest game ever made.

beat the first gears of war on insane mode without dying.

literally, i had that game burned into my skull when it came out, i fucking loved it for some odd reason, my friend got knocked down a few times when we were going through the missions but i was the unsung hero of that game and took on armies of those bastards without breaking a sweat, the AI was in full fear of my awesomeness with the controller.

(not gonna lie..the driving part was a complete fluke, usually those annoying ass bats get us at least once but that time it worked perfectly just barely)

other than that..i really can't think of a game short enough where i never died once.
