So again I'll say this is in no means supposed to degrade or alienate anyone
Well, you've failed at that. People are people, and sex doesn't effect anyone's abilities to use a damn controller, save actual medical reasons or the way society expects certain people to behave.
Do you have an actual hypothesis? If so, is it that women are naturally different gamers, or is it a societal issue? Bein
It's that men are biologically better equipped to track motion through space, identifying rotated objects, that sort of thing.
Fewer of those advantages come into play in 2D games.

It was a tough vote for me (being male) because my girlfriend lies between kicking my ass and I don't really notice a difference. She is very good at FPS's and gives me quite a run for my money. My personal advantage is that she only plays with me, while I will play without her.

So to sum it up on topic, my girlfriend has no problem.

My mother is a different story though =/

Only one of the girls I've gamed with played an FPS with me. Timesplitters Future Perfect.
She wasn't that bad at it.
But ALL the girls I've gamed with suck at Fighting games. None of them can handle complex button bullshit.

I was so confused when I saw this title...

I'm a girl and I've never experienced this let alone heard anything about it. All the girls I know that play games are pretty good like myself or just suck at gaming in general. Nothing on the thumbstick.

I haven't played a whole lot of 2-D games so I can't really comment in that reguard. Though I find games easier on console then PC (I prefer PC games) but I think that's just because the aiming is far more forgiving on console then PC because the controller doesn't allow for the same level of precision as a mouse does.

I suppose maybe there's more girls who are just casual gamers and are not as skilled as using a controller as someone who plays more often. It does require a fair amount of co-ordination and I suppose if you pick up a controller once a month or even once a week you're not going to have the same skill with a controller in general (let alone a game) then someone that plays much more regularly. For example when I moved out of home I didn't have a console for about 6 months and my brother whom I'm normally on par with in terms on general skill was able to kick my arse when I went back home. Since then I've got my own 360 and we're back to the same again. Like I said I don't really play 2-D games but logically it would seem to me that the control scheme would be simpler and require less getting the hang of which would compensate for the lack of practice.

The gender thing seems to just be an excuse to get beaten. "Oh, I'm a girl, it must be a gender issue with the left thumbstick. Clearly I'm not bad at games in general." Seems to me to be the only reasoning for your situation, but there's a reason the scientific method exists. Asking for peoples general opinions isn't likely to get you a correct unbiased answer.

Also I don't know why you'd put the middle option for girls in. Like anyone on a gaming forum is going to admit they suck at games.

My problems with the second thumbstick stem from a lack of experience with the control system. This issue is less pronounced when I'm playing third-person games with similar camera control, possibly since you can see more from a third-person perspective and are therefore less reliant on the camera for survival.

The differences in spatial cognition between genders probably doesn't make THAT much of a difference. I think it's all about practice and/or what type of game you play more often.

(edit) On another note, I'm pretty bitchin' at Katamari Damacy, and you need both sticks for movement.

I'll put it simply. I've played the original Ape Escape. After mastering that game, I have very little problem playing with anything that uses both joysticks. And frankly I wish more games would do clever things like Ape Escape did since the other joystick is rarely important in most games.

And I recommend Ape Escape not only to other female gamers, but to male ones also. I am not big on monkeys or apes generally but this game was just too much fun despite them. So if you do like them it is doubly addictive.

It isn't the mightiest in graphics but the game is fun and that is worth a great deal.

I have no idea, as I barely play with women.
Telling by your picture, that is likely true.(kidding) Any way, all the girls i have played on PSN and Live play just fine.
Well I do like a good Maxing every now and than...
I knew it!
Do you want me to describe a Maxing to you?
I was kidding, again. Yes.
Okay first you get a nice, fresh Maxi. Than you get some whip cream and dough. The rest is on your own.
I thought you were just working out.

My girlfriend can play FPS on the PC just fine but actually can't play FPS on consoles as she gets motion sickness.

But she handles other games just fine, only thing she sucks at is Mario.

Well you do have to do some very intense stretching.
I knew it again, again!

Hmmm this could explain why she keeps shooting me in L4D, its either that or she's living out some form of horrible murder fantasy concerning shooting me, then again it might be because I keep insisting that I play as Zoey.
