Ooh, that's a hard toss-up between the 3rd and 4th generations, both were equally good. My favorite consoles were in both: NES (3rd) and Sega Genesis (4th). But then again, the 5th generation was good too. *sigh* I hate hard decisions!

The 6th. I'm a relatively young person, so I grew up on the 5th and 6th generations, and while, probably due to me being a completely care-free little child back then, I have more fonder memories of the 5th generation, but as I am here today, I can say that most of my favorite games come from the 6th generation, and the PS2, mostly.

Also, the 5th generation saw the beginning of the Playstation, so when the 6th generation launched, with the next Playstation, Microsoft making a console etc, then it was pretty exciting.

The 5th generation if I can replay PS1 games in the 7th generation and (after my eyes adjusts to the terrible 3D graphics) I can have fun then I have to say the 64 era wins.

5th gen hands down. PSX & N64 have brought huge innovations that still inspire (or less euphemistic: are being reused) today. I mean just look at a portion of the list:

N64:
Zelda OOT & MM
GoldenEye 007
Perfect Dark
Super Mario 64
Banjo Kazooie/ Tooie
Super Smash Bros.
Mario Kart 64
Star Fox 64
Conker's Bad Fur Day
F-Zero X

PSX:
Resident Evil 1-3
Silent Hill 1
Final Fantasy 7-9
Metal Gear Solid
Gran Turismo 1,2
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1-3
Tekken 1-3
Tomb Raider 1-4(?)
Medal of Honor 1, 2

And these are just some of the more well-known ones...cuz there are countless other gems. Sure, there were limitations in hardware capacity...but you know what...it actually forced people to be inventive/ creative. I'm not arguing that this is the best generation evah...but it is one that was VERY influential.

5th and 6th generation.

Playstation, Playstation 2 and Nintendo 64!
My whole childhood covered right there, and so many memorable games.

The present generation, since it can do anything the previous generations did, and also do a better job. The next generation will improve on this generation, why stay in the past when we can move forward? Good to visit the past, but don't stay there.

The last one, I mean this one. Its the best, because there are more of the best for it. A great game when I was 7 was a great game when I was 7, and the memories are great, but it probably doesn't compare anymore.

Well I've played games from every single generation although I started playing in generatione 4, it was only at my neighbour's house and he only had street fighter 2... I really began playing until generation 5 in my good old N64 for and having played games from every single generation I'd have to say that 4 is the best, or at least my favorite just for the Snes... and I started playing a lot of Snes untill 3 years ago and really it's my favorite, that's why I think it's the best!

Fourth generation: the last great nintendo generation. When squaresoft made solid gold with every release. Sonic and Mario were mortal enemies, as were mortal combat and street fighter 2. I loved alot of generation 3 stuff, but the SNES has a special place in my heart, which was shattered with the N64.
