As a side note, I'm fairly certain that Obsidian is made up of old members of Black Isle. Although the numbers might suggest that the quality of their games has dropped since Black Isle was disbanded.

Well, I've never not loved a single Bioware game. In fact, I don't have harsh words to say about any game that Bioware's ever developed, so it has to be them.

They are also my favourite developer, period.
Amen, hallelujah! Preach it!
I'm actually just about to play through Baldur's Gate again (I've got the week off).
Bioware hasn't made a bad RPG. From Baldur's Gate, to Jade Empire, to Mass Effect and Dragon Age...these guys do RPGs, and they do them amazingly well. Not everyone will agree, and that's fine. But, as far as I'm concerned, no other RPG company comes close for over-all enjoyability. I've played Baldur's Gate more times then I can count (+1 today!), and playthrough every other RPG they've done multiple times. I can say that about very few games period, let alone RPGs.

Bioware holds the RPG crown.
Long live the king.

It's called opinion. everyone has one.

DA:O was a dull, LOTR rehash. The gameplay was mediocre the characters were unlikeable and the game offered nothing new (press button for ability, cooldown). The combat was a clusterfuck. The AI progaramming (like Gambits in FFXII) was poorly implemented and full of bugs. Honestly, I really wanted to like DA:O but it is one of the biggest disappointments for me in the past 10 years.

And this is not the place for that stupid JRPG is not RPG debate. If you want to argue about that, go fuck yourself take a long walk instead.
You snipped my 2 line post? That seems a bit pointless.

Anyway. I dont see how you could find DA:O dull. The charcters were very well done and the story was great. Its probably one of the best games I've ever played, and after finishing the game I just wanted more! Sadly the expansion disappointed me, so I haven't managed to finish that yet.
The combat wasn't all that interesting I agree, but its a bioware game. The gameplay is not really why you're playing the game.

While im not going to argue that JRPG's aren't rpg's anymore (They aren't), I still fail to see how sqeenix can possibly be on top of the list.
I fail to see how any FF game can beat games like: Morrowind, Baldurs gate, Oblivion, Mass Effect, NWN, DA:O, Diablo, KOTOR, etc.

Because like every other BioWare game, the gameplay is a boring grindfest.

(Note: I have not played Mass Effect or Jade Empire, so those two may prove to be an exception.)

If you're playing a bioware game for the gameplay you're doing it wrong. Its all about the story and the characters man!

Once again, it comes down to opinion.
I have one, you have one, the OP has one...

If I don't like DA:O for it's obvious flaws, that's my opinion.
If you like DA:O despite them, that's your opinion.

It's what makes the world go 'round.
Well mine is obviously the rigth one! ;)

As many of these have consistently produced games that I like - maybe even love - only one developer can say they've made three of my 10 favorite video games of all time:

Atlus.

Not everything they touch turns to gold, but Ogre Battle 64, Persona 3:FES, and Persona 4 are absolutely gems.

(Bioware did earn major points with Mass Effect 2, though!)

I was going to go with Square but them I remembered they went downhill drastically and thought about Bioware, then I remembered Diablo 1 & 2 and voted Blizzard

Bioware.

They made KotOR, Dragon Age: Origins and the Mass Effect games for fuck's sake!

[small]Yes, the ME games are RPGs, just because the combat is good doesn't change that.[/small]

Fallout II.
Planescape: Torment.

Black Isle wins. What they never got the chance to prove in quantity, they've proven a dozen times over in quality. As a strong runner-up, I'd say Bioware.

The combat wasn't good, hide as far away from enemies as possible behind cover and snipe them. The AI was extremely poor and there was no real way to flush enemies out of cover like a grenade would. Combat was just a poor Gears of War clone.
